Ohhh. That made more sense. Bouncepaw takes his mentor's advice to heart, and jumps higher this time. But it's a good thing that there isn't real hawk around here; his attack still retains some clumsiness. His pins down a couple of leaves, just like Bluestrike, before letting them go.

"Is this high enough?" Bouncepaw asks, "Hawks fly high, right?"

Bluestrike nodded his approval. Bouncepaw was learning quickly. Better. He meowed, touching his nose to his apprentice's head. And in order to jump higher, you'll need to work on your balance. He explained, standing up.

"Balance, got it." Bouncepaw jumps again, practicing. The thought occurred to him that he may also be able to use this skill against smaller birds, not hawks, but flying prey. Doves, finches, sparrows... Bouncepaw practices even more carefully.

As he practices, he's getting more and more thoughts and ideas. "What about defense?" He asks his mentor. "I was just thinking, what if the hawk attacks me as I'm jumping at it?"

Well, you wouldn't be fighting a hawk single pawed, for one. Bluestrike clarified, picking up his feet. But, if you ever find yourself in that situation, you first must yowled for help. He paused before continuing. After that, you must get onto the hawk's back and pin its wings down. He looked at his apprentice, then back at his own paws. Though that may be a little hard for you, because hawks are strong, and probably the size of you. He shrugged. It's very rare you'll get into a fight with a hawk, unless you go looking for one. He narrowed his eyes, his voice dripping with seriousness. And if you ever, hear me out, ever. Go looking for fights with them hawks, I will finish you off myself. He gave a sharp nod before returning to his regular self. But, even if the hawk is bigger than you, once you get on top of it, you can give it a killing bite. Bluestrike concluded, his eyes boring into Bouncepaw's.

"I won't, I won't." Bouncepaw feels uncomfortable with his mentor staring, so he glances away. He's unsure whether to be offended that his mentor thinks he's so stupid to go off looking for a fight with a massive bird, or to be thankful that he was warned. He decides on a bit of both.

He continues to practice on the leaves, jumping higher and higher with every try. Even if he never fights a hawk in his entire life, it might be useful in helping him jump. Bouncepaw stretches his hind legs. After a long time, they feel sore.

Bouncepaw nods. He had no problems with that. He was starting to get bored of jumping in one place for so long.

To be honest, Whiterabbit had already taught him the basics of rabbit hunting. He didn't have proper experience yet, but she'd let him chase a rabbit with an injured leg and give it a killing blow. Bouncepaw didn't mention it to his mentor; he wanted to surprise him with his skill in hunting. Hopefully it would go well.

Bluestrike purred. You might not know much about rabbit hunting yet, but let me tell ya something. He leaned in as if it was a secret. It's almost like regular hunting! He smiled. Want to show me what you've got?

[Bouncepaw rolls a 20]

Bouncepaw sniffs the air cautiously as he creeps around the field, searching for any signs of rabbit. He's not sure if he's lucky, or if Bluestrike had taken him to this spot knowing in advance, but he can immediately tell that there's the scent of a lot of rabbits in the area. Not only that, there's a trace of milk.

The scent of milk is very faint, but Bouncepaw can trace it, especially since it turns out his prey is big and plump. He can see it's nose wobbling. The rabbit looks cautious, and likely won't be an easy catch, but Bouncepaw still wants to try. He stalks the rabbit, and when he gets a little close, starts chasing.

[Bouncepaw rolls a 13]

The rabbit is too fast to easily catch and kill in a single blow, so Bouncepaw uses his paws to knock it to the ground and injure it's hind legs first. Unfortunately, when he strikes the rabbit, he also happens to knock it away towards a burrow. Bouncepaw was too focused on his prey and he hadn't noticed there was one nearby. The rabbit darts down the hole, and Bouncepaw's just about to follow it, when he remembers this might not be a good idea.

He's come to terms with his bad luck with prey now. Bouncepaw only looks at Bluestrike to get confirmation from his mentor first. If he says yes, he'll be eager to dive in underground to catch the rabbit.
