I can hunt.” She silently wished that the deputy had chosen someone else for the patrol, anyone but her. But there was nothing she could really do about it now, she’d just have to cooperate and get this patrol over with.

Flyfur noted Owlpaw's sour tone and frowned a bit, letting the apprentice pass her so she wouldn't see it before forcing a neutral expression and returning pace. "Good. How's your swimming, then?"

Softpaw caught up with her mother, she sighed a bit yet she knew it would all be worth it!, "what do we do?" softpaw tilted her head slightly.

She was infinitely grateful for Salmonsong in this moment.
"Refreshing the borders and checking for any intrusion." Flyfur explained to both Owlpaw and Softpaw, casting a sideways glance to her own apprentice.
It was obvious she didn't want to be here, or in camp, or around other cats. Why did she join the clan if she wasn't very interested in clan life or her clanmates? Hopefully it was just her settling in and she was just stand offish about it all.

"One of the last patrols that was sent here found old remains of eaten prey, but it couldn't be linked to any one group of cats. We should keep an eye out for any signs of intrusion." She informed the patrol. She wasn't privy to this information as Lionstar hadn't felt it was important just yet but Halfstone, having lead that patrol, had told her about it.

Quailsnap's ears flicked in offense at Lighstreak's words. He wanted to argue. He was a full grown cat, who'd lived many moons just fine and knew how to do everything on his own. Being blind was just a bit of a.... setback but he could bounce back from it... right? He hoped so. Being kit-sat by an apprentice would not help his already fragile ego. He didn't want to be treated like a kit. "I'm perfectly fine, but whatever. It's not like Lionstar sent me on a patrol because he expected me to die or something." Quailsnap meowed, but refrained from rolling his eyes. Any movement of them currently, he'd learned, hurt pretty bad. He slowed a bit to wait up for Asterpaw though, continuing his former pace once he'd heard the apprentice's pawsteps beside him. Quailsnap marked a few of the border spots, before hearing Asterpaw's excited question. Turning towards him, Quailsnap tried to focus on the small blur that he assumed was Asterpaw. "Terrible. Don't try it kid. It's not fun, especially when you used to be able to see. Now I have to adapt to a whole new.... lifestyle."

Asterpaw humphed, he wasn't going to turn back again. He followed after Quailsnap, watching the older tom mark the border. He copied him, shakier, but he did it. His First Border Mark!



He grinned before the tom turned on him, blind eyes focusing on him. He froze, fur fluffing as the tom scared him. He sounded dead serious and Asterpaw squeaked out a "Yes, sir."



He didn't mean anything by the question. But he knew Quailsnap had gone blind from the coyote attack, and the injury was still not old.

Flyfur turned to Softpaw, "and now we go and mark the borders." She showed her how to properly mark the borders.
She had to keep herself from glancing at Owlpaw, still frustrated with her attitude towards the situation. Salmonsong had said she'd be able to watch after her for this patrol, and she trusted her, so she had to leave that to her.

oftpaws ears perked when her mind finally caught up, "OH!, im such a mouse-brain, I've already been on a border patrol I know how this works!" softpaw couldn't help but start giggling at her forgetfulness. She trotted up to a large rock and rubbed her head along it, "please forgive how forgetful I am." softpaw sighed.
