Ah, Maplekit was now Maplepaw. It felt nice to be an apprentice now. That would mean that she would be sleeping in the apprentice's den instead of the nursery, and that now she'll be getting real training.
But, who was her mentor?
Well...
She glanced over at Redspring.
He doesn't look the happiest.
But why should Maplepaw care? After all, this was only for a few moons, then she'd be a warrior.
But, of course, with every good news...
comes bad news.
A war with RiverClan?!
Oh, RiverClan, you better watch out, and you better not cry,
and I'm going to tell you why.
Because Maplepaw was coming,
and she's ready.
@chickadee [OF COURSE SHE GOT THE ONE
WHO DIDN'T WANT TO BE A MENTOR LMAOAOIASUAHA]

Only three out of the five, Twilightstar couldn't be bothered to wait for Rosemarykit or Ravenkit and so started on the three who were on time. "From this day forth until you receive your warrior names, you'll be known as Deadpaw, Maplepaw, and Swanpaw." She meowed.
"Littleshock, you'll be training Swanpaw. Maplepaw, your mentor is Redspring. Finally, Bravebird your apprentice is Deadpaw." Twilightstar announced glancing at each mentor in turn.
"Reassignments, Duskpaw you'll be training with Moonfall. Caterpillarpaw, Nightheart will be your new mentor." It's been a while since she's had so few apprentices to reassign hopefully it stayed like that
"On to more troubling news, Mistycloud was found deceased in the territory. There were no signs of foul play or a battle, although it seemed like she might have eaten something bad." Twilightstar still wasn't sure what to make of that information. She was sure her clan would give her or come up with ideas of their own though.
"It seems that RiverClan has decided to continue to test our borders. Batglare reported that he and his patrol sent to warn RiverClan to stay off our territory was successful. They met RiverClan's deputy Birdsnow and her patrol, and although a warning was issued without too much trouble, it seems that RiverClan is going to continue to disregard our warnings and refuse to take us seriously. Bravebird found Nighthail heavily injured after she chased off yet another RiverClan trespasser who openly challenged her and refused to return to his side of the border until she made him." Twilightstar wasn't looking for a full-on war with RiverClan, she didn't think that would help with everything going on now. But it was getting very hard to avoid one.
"For now, I want RiverClan's border frequently patrolled and monitored and every RiverClan trespasser attacked or killed on sight. WindClan's given more than enough warning to stay out of the territory. If this continues they will have a war on their paws." The words, though spoken with pure confidence, left a bitter taste in her maw. She wasn't looking forward to it.
"I also need everyone to keep an eye out for a loner near RiverClan's border. Softsong had a run-in with a loner eating crowfood. He was chased into RiverClan's territory but be mindful nonetheless." There was no need for extra injuries or to give Lightningstorm extra work. That molly was suffering the most with Cowtuft's exile. All the more reason to avoid a war with RiverClan as well. Twilightstar raised her ears to see if anyone had anything they'd like to discuss before she ended the meeting.
Wildstorm took a soft breath before speaking. "Well," He began. "With Leafbare in full swing we are going to need to ration our prey carefully. I suggest bringing in a monitor cat to keep an eye on the stock and supply it in even amounts to all cats. This way, we will make it through the cold and famine without any starvation."

Her hope came to fruition, and Swiftfire let out a rumbling purr of approval when Littleshock was given an apprentice. Swanpaw. She blinked warmly at the orange and white molly beside her before pressing her nose to the younger warrior's shoulder briefly. "Congratulations!" She whispurred, "You'll do great, I know it."
But the rest of the news was troubling to say the least, and activity was stepping up on the RiverClan border. Swiftfire curled her lip back in anger. Mistycloud was death under strange circumstances, RiverClan was becoming aggressive...Swiftfire understood now why the apprentice assignments and reassignments were taking place. Trouble was brewing, and if RiverClan didn't take the hint, as Twilightstar said, there would be war. She felt her heart sink at the thought, and then rapidly began making plans for her next training session. Hickorypaw was going to need every bit of skill in battle she can teach him...
Bravebird
She/her | 42 moons | Beefed Up T3 • One with the Warren
From where she sat on the fringes of the gathering with her attention now back on Twilightstar, Bravebird perked her ears at her name. An apprentice... Deadpaw. She would never understand that name, and why mothers felt it appropriate to name their kits as 'dead' anything. But personal feelings on the name aside the lilac lynx-point was eager to get back into teaching again.
Getting to her paws her blue eyes sought Deadpaw out in the crowd as she made her way over towards the apprentice. "Hey there, kid," she greeted, extending her neck down so that they could touch noses if she wanted to. Settling back down next to the young cat, Brave looked back up at the Galewood. "After this we'll get started with a tour of the territory, so be ready for that," she purred, flicking her tail to tap Deadpaw's shoulder lightly.
As the meeting continued on, her face darkened at the news of Mistycloud's passing, recalling having to bury the she-cat at the meadow. RiverClan was up next and Brave's blue eyes narrowed. Good, the border would be patrolled frequently. While she would've preferred to launch a full scale attack to show those stream-dwelling guppies what happened when they kept messing with WindClan, at least they were being given permission to kill on sight.
For a moment, Bravebird wanted to find Firestorm and lock eyes with the tabby. Memories of their trip to the border, where they had come across that lone RiverClanner, and Brave had taken her paws and held their head under- She gave a small snort at the thought. Seemed like she was in the right about that situation more than she'd thought.
A voice from the crowd lifted up and she shifted her gaze towards Wildstorm. Her brows raised at the seemingly off-topic statement. Since when did full grown warriors need some cat to ration out their food. "I don't know what kind of 'famine' you're talking about," Bravebird lifted her voice to speak to the cat, not bothering to hide the 'are you serious?' look she tossed towards him. "But WindClan has made it more seasons than you've been alive without having some cat "ration our prey"." Unless there had been reports of prey being poisoned it made no sense. Hopefully cats were smart enough to not eat anything that smelled or tasted foul.
With one last raised brow look, Brave shook her head and looked back up to Twilightstar as she waited for the continuation of the meeting.

Deadkit, now Deadpaw, raised her head to touch noses with her new mentor.
Her mentor's name was Bravebird, wasn't it? Deadpaw had a very bad memory, but nobody's perfect,"Your name is Bravebird, right?" asked Deadpaw, without waiting for an answer, Deadpaw spoke again,"I'll make you proud of me, I promise," Deadpaw said, determined to keep her promise.
Deadpaw was excited, she had taken the first step to become a warrior, the best warrior, everyone would be proud of her. However, she was a little sad about Mistycloud's death, did Riverclan have anything to do with it? No, impossible, very impossible, Riverclan couldn't have, but that didn't change the fact that she was going to beat them up if she saw them in Windclan's territory.
The Riverclan cats will have to face her. They would run like cowards back to their territory, and they would never come back, they wouldn't dare!

Dunecall was staring at the only three present kits, wondering darkly where the hell were the mothers when they were needed. "Pfft, that's all time of their life wasted. That's Windclan's potential resources, warriors... wasted." he murmured to himself, lashing his tail forth and back as if it was a whip against the ground.
"Deadpaw! Maplepaw! Swanpaw!" he exulted after clearing his throat, feeling a bit old despite his middle age. But the joy of having new, fresh apprentices was too soon tainted by the stink of death. He dipped his head as he heard the news of his clanmate dead, and silently sent his goodbye to Starclan. A sort of pray, a comforting thought.
Death was a serious thing. And Riverclan seemed not to have gotten the concept, for they still insisted on trespassing despite the laws between clans. The warrior code, too, seemed dead these days. "That Larkstar... I don't know what's in her head. And Birdsnow seems too young and incompetent for the job. I only see dark clouds coming our way, just over the border we share with the clan of water." he grumbled with a spark of disdain, watching Twilightstar giving other warnings and orders of chaos and death.
She's trying to maintain order, but there's not order anymore. Riverclan has broken it, and only blood will settle this right. A shiver run through his spine, and he proceeded to quickly lick the fur on his back to set it off.
Yes, something dreadful was coming.
