Wormpaw nodded to Spiritrain, noting Coyote standing and turning to face it. Worm grinned, lashing his tail playfully, he decided he'd make the first move. The smaller tom leaped onto Coyotepaw's back, trying to land evenly enough to keep his balance. It worked for the most part. He landed off-center and began to slip and fall.

In his panic, and while trying not to fall, he accidentally unsheathed his claws, raking them down Coyote's side as it tumbled to the ground. Wormpaw's eyes shot wide as he noticed the scratch on Coyotepaw. oh- oh no- no no no I did not just do that, he's going to kill me.

He rolled onto his stomach and jumped to his paws, swallowing anxiously "Coy- I'm so sorry, I didn't-" He was cut off by Coyote, he pinned his ears back as he stared up at his denmate.

Coyotepaw listened to Spiritrain carefully, nodding as he rose to his paws and turned to Worm. He crouched, his tail lashing behind him as he looked at Worm through narrowed eyes. He watched Wormpaw jump, trying to move out of the way.

They were a bit too slow but had moved enough for Worm to land off-center. He grinned as he shifted his body, throwing Worm's balance off. Time seemed to slow down as he watched Worm fall. Suddenly he felt the sharp sting of claws running down his side.

His eyes went wide, then narrowed to cold slits as they whipped around to face the other apprentice. It to call them that stupid nickname, right after unsheathing it's claws in battle training? Absolutely not. "Don't call me that-" He said with a growl "What the hell? You can't unsheathe your claws in practice fights!" He spat, stepping closer to the other apprentice.

It saw fear flash in the other tom's eyes and sighed, stepping away to assess the scratches. They weren't too bad, but were probably going to scar but he could probably hide them.

He shook his fur, mostly covering them "I'm fine- don't worry" he muttered "Let's just- continue"

and with that he waved his tail, crouching again, waiting until Worm was standing and hesitantly crouching. Coyotepaw began to circle, followed by Worm. After a bit he launched himself at the smaller apprentice, catching Worm off guard.

He landed perfectly, knocking Worm onto it's side. They pushed down with their entire weight, earning a noise of complaint from Worm, but not much more.

Coyotepaw looked back to his mentor, puffing his chest out a bit.

Hm.
Got a little heated for a second there.
"You might want that checked once you're done." Spiritrain points out.

They then seemed to get right back to it.
At least it was forgiven. Accidents happen.

"You both did good." He then says "Just... a little more careful, next time. Now, we'll be moving to..." He thought for a moment "Basuc paw swipes."
Might as well get that over with.

"Watch."
He then demonstrated by rearing up on his hind legs and swiping at air, before finishing and going back to standing on all four legs.
"I want you both to try it on each other, while also keeping your own balance."

Wormpaw felt Coyotepaw putting all of his weight into his paws as he stood on Wormpaw's ribs. The smaller tom let out a pained noise, but with Coy's cold glare fixed on him, he decided silence was his safest bet.

It was relieved when Coyote removed their paws from it. and it quickly rolled to it's feet, glancing nervously at Coyote before returning it's two-colored gaze to Spiritrain. It nodded along as it listened, deciding that he'd let the bigger apprentice make the first move this time.

He crouched, his tail waving behind him as he kept his eyes locked on Coyote. He watched him rear up, he leaped to his back paws, though wasn't the most balanced. He met Coyote's first blow with a front paw, more or less blocking it. The second one, aimed at it's head, caught Wormpaw off guard. Coy's paw met Worm's face and the smaller tom crumbled to the ground as he lost his balance.

He tumbled a bit, rubbing it's cheek with it's paw, though once more it didn't dare say a word. It only shot Coyote a glare before quickly returning to it's original position. Now, it's my turn. A grin crept it's way across Wormpaw's maw as he quickly pushed himself onto his hind legs.

The one advantage Worm had, was that he was smaller and faster than Coyote. He lashed out a paw, aimed at Coyote's shoulder. He gently tapped the other tom before leaning back, dodging out of the way of Coy's counter, much to the visible annoyance of Coyote.

Coyotepaw got off Wormpaw, turning his attention back to Spiritrain as he spoke "I'm sure it's fine- I've had to deal with worse" he said with a shrug. He continued listening to his mentor's lesson, nodding as he watched Worm get into position. He raised a brow as he watched Worm crouch, but got into his position. He rose onto his back legs, swiping a paw forward at Worm. Annoyed that he'd managed to block it, his next blow was aimed at Worm's head.

He grinned as his paw met the other apprentice, watching him tumble to the ground. He feigned a sympathetic look, though Worm was quick to recover. The larger tom prepared himself for Worm's attack, he went to dodge out of the way, but Worm's paw was too quick.

He aimed a paw at the other's chest but watched as Worm dodged out of the way just in time. His tail tip twitched with frustration as he glared Worm down. He sighed softly, looking back to his mentor after Wormpaw did, ready for any tips, corrections, and/or comments.

Spiritrain, despite Coyotepaw saying that they're sure it's fine, still vaguely internally hoped they would still get it checked out, just in case.

Moving on, the apprentices both tackled each other.
He waited to speak until they were both finished.

"You both used your different strengths to your advantage, which is good." He commented "Coyotepaw, your larger size helps you keep down opponents better and knock the wind out of them. Wormpaw, your smaller size helps your speed and getting around an opponent to disorient them."

He thought for a moment, contemplating what to teach them next.
"Stalking up behind your opponent without them hearing you and pinning them from behind." He then decided "We'll be doing that next, since stealth is a valuable asset in ShadowClan. The stalking is like hunting in a way, I want to see you both make attempts at sneaking up on each other without the other noticing. This can also help train you to notice someone stalking up behind you as well."

"I'll go first- Though I haven't had much stealth training-" He murmured, waiting for Coyote to turn around. Despite his lack of training, he did have several sneak-outs under his belt. He managed to get most of the way to Coyote before stepping on a twig.

He hissed under his breath as he watched Coyote shoot around, lashing out with a large paw. The blow landed on Wormpaw's cheek, sending him tumbling to the ground. He quickly recovered though, leaping to his paws.

The shadowclan apprentice wondered why all of Coy's strikes seemed to be aimed at his head, but frankly was too scared to ask. He wasn't used to this side of Coyote, he'd always been softer around Wormpaw, but something seemed different now.

Wormpaw frowned, then turned around. He at least trusted Coyote enough not just to murder him in front of his mentor like this, but the thought still crossed the apprentice's mind. He swallowed, kneading the ground in front of him as he waited.

Coyotepaw listened carefully to Spiritrain, nodding as he spoke, after he gave his next instructions the larger apprentice turned his back to Worm. He closed his eyes, listening carefully for his denmate.

The rosette tabby's ears perked up as he heard Worm snap the twig. He leaped to his paw, before whipping around. He lashed out a large paw, aiming for Worm's ear, though his aim was a bit off and he struck the tom's face. He wasn't complaining though. A cocky grin crossed his maw he he puffed up his chest a bit.

Now, it was their turn, and they were more than prepared for this. With two stealth lessons, he felt more than prepared for this. He silently crept across the area they'd chosen, launching himself at Worm. He landed perfectly on the smaller apprentice, immediately weighing him down, and pinning him in the process.

They watched as Worm kicked and struggled under them, trying to escape from the larger apprentice's weight. He found Worm's attempts to free himself humourous, though released him fairly quicker "Gotta be quieter than that Wormy" He said in a teasing tone, though his expression remained cold.
