((Takes place almost right after the Rats/Snake fight in Dawning Woods))

Silentpaw had to admit, things went quite well. For him, at least. He wasn't too badly injured. Nothing a few days of resting couldn't fix. But he knew there were other cats that were messed up pretty bad from the snakes and rats, specifically, Bristlethorn. He'd been there to help her, but not before the snake had done significant damage. She was conscious enough to speak, which was good, but the state of the she-cat was nontheless concerning. And this one cat in particular. Pondpaw.
She'd been with him to take care of the snake around Dawnstar's neck, as well as the snakes on Bristlethorn. He'd been thankful for the apprentice, of course, but Rookfire had different plans for her. Silentpaw wasn't completely against it, of course, he had to admit she had been quite stubborn, wanting to help with something she couldn't quite do on her own. But regardless, she'd helped him, and he was grateful. They were never friends before, nor spoke to each other, so he never had the chance to voice his thanks to the apprentice.

Well, never until now. He lifted his head from the ground when he felt a presence approach him. Nope, no, he was not in the mood for some small-talk. He swore if it was-

Ever since Rookfire's telling her that her warrior ceremony would be delayed, Pondpaw had been distant. Her river-blue hues were usually fogged up with undetectable emotions, and she was easy to startle nowadays.

There was one cat that she wanted to talk to, however. Silentpaw. Approaching the tom, she dipped her head in greeting.

After concluding that Pondpaw wasn't a threat, Silentpaw returned the greeting, lightly dipping his head at the she-cat. He gave her a questioning look with a flick of his ear, shifting so he was sitting instead of laying on the ground. He could only guess what she'd wanted to say, and Silentpaw had certain things to say, as well.

Try not to seem too sympathetic. Try not to seem too sympathetic. He thought as he kept his deadpan gaze on the older apprentice. He never showed much emotion to anyone, and Pondpaw was no exception.

"... What?" Oh. He'd said that out loud, hadn't he? He clamped his mouth shut, eyes widening for a brief moment. She was sorry? For what? She hadn't done anything, not to him, at least. There was no reason for her to be sorry. Stars, did he make her feel like that? Without doing anything?

As much as he wanted to stay silent and let it drag on, he couldn't help but let out a small "... Why...?"

Ah. So that was what she was going to say.
The apology made sense now. But... It still felt wrong. She shouldn't be apologising to him! He gently shook his head no, holding out a paw in an attempt to quiet her and keep her from self-deprecating any longer.

"It's alright." He murmured, heather blue gaze holding true sincerity. "Sorry... That it happened." "You didn't deserve it." He wanted to say, but it never came out. It only lingered in his mind, waiting for its cue to tumble out of his mouth.

"... Thank... You." He said instead. Though, it was clear in the strain in his voice he was holding back.
