Morning Comes and Wakes the Fawn

Fawnkit

He couldn’t stand it any longer. He was too bored to go on like this, laying in his nest and staring at the ceiling of the den, waiting until his apprentice ceremony. He was only five moons old, he still had to wait for a while. So, he decided to do something productive, and go outside. He hauled himself up, shaking his fluffy and spiky light brown fur before he walked out of the nursery and into the clearing.

Looking around, Fawnkit didn’t see anything that particularly caught his eyes at first. Until, he spotted another kit in the clearing. She didn’t seem too much older or younger than him… maybe about roughly the same age. So, he decided to go over and talk to her. Maybe he’d make a friend.

He bounded over and then skidded to a halt in front of her, smiling friendly. She seemed like she was a bit.. unapproachable. But that didn’t deter him, with his endlessly determined spirit. He did, however, take the necessary precautions to not accidentally make her mad, taking a step back to let her have some personal space.

”Heya! I’m Fawnkit. What’s your name?

Shush! Morningkit screeched, going back to ripping flowers from the patch of grass she was standing by. I don't want to talk to weirdos! She hissed, not even looking up. And by the way, you should know who I am. I'm w-a-y tougher than all the kits combined. She meowed brightly, stamping the last flower to the ground.

He blinked, a bit taken aback by the loudness and the rudeness. Oh, and the fact she was tearing up flowers wasn’t exactly normal. Fawnkit felt a twinge of sympathy for her. Maybe she was just having a bad day, or something happened to her in the past that made her always angry or something? He needed to help her out.

”Hmm.. well, if you don’t want to tell me your name, then I’ll make up one to call you until you want to tell me! Hmmm… what name would you choose if you could?”

He asked calmly, ignoring her blunt and rude behavior as he sat down next to her. Whilst he spoke, he put a paw on one of the flowers. He had an idea, but he didn’t want to do it until he’d gotten to know her better.

Morningkit snorted. I don't know what I'd call myself, but I definitely know what to call you. She narrowed her eyes. And that would be, Mousebrain! She muttered, finishing with the flowers and finally turning to Fawnkit. Now, what is it that you really want? Morningkit meowed, making sure to express her bordem.

He did his best to ignore the insult. He was emotional, but he didn’t let things get to him that easily. He wanted to help out and maybe even befriend her. She seemed lonely. Maybe she’d secretly want to be friends! He knew she could find it in her somewhere deep down… deep.. deep down.

”Hmm, well since you asked me, the stupidest and most dumb Mousebrain,”

He paused for a second, smiling at her with a joking light in his eyes to match his tone. Then he continued.

”I want to be friends. I know you probably don’t want to even interact with anybody, but if you’d let me play a game of mossball with you, maybe we could have fun?”

Morningkit glared at her, her deep blue eyes could pierce one's mind. I don't want to play mossball. And I don't want to be your friend. She added, looking away. Who needed friends when she had herself?

His smile faded a bit into a smaller one, a bit disappointed. However, he bounced back quickly, trying to get her to agree. Fawnkit would get her to play with him and at least smile once. If he could get her to crack one genuine smile, he’d be satisfied.

”Okay, you might not want to play or be friends. But please would you just give it a shot? You can stop playing and stop talking to me if you don’t like it.”

The light brown kit urged. He hoped she’d give it one teeny tiny little chance.

Morningkit raised an eyebrow. Stop talking to her? That'd be great! Fine. She muttered, trying hard to hide her glee at the thought.
