The tom mulled over Dawnstar’s words, it was like she had read his mind. Clearly it hadn’t been noticed by only him Willowpaw’s failings, but it felt shameful to admit. The reason he’d left it so late, he’d never before had an apprentice surmount to failure. But he needed to spit it out and realise it wasn’t through lack of trying, the cat was simply ludicrous.

”Indeed”, Owlthroat nodded his voice low and neutral. ”Willowpaw is not fit to be a warrior, I must say this bluntly. Her mental capacity is a danger to others.” Owlthroat paused, it felt cruel. For once in his life he seemed to recognize his own cruelty, what if it was one of his daughters?

He shrugged the thought off, that wouldn’t be possible. ”I cannot endorse her promotion in good faith.” Owlthroat had come to despise the bee-brained youngster but he kept looping back to the thought of it being one of his own. Softening at the edges, so much for the battle hardened monolith he made himself out to be. Yellow eyes crinkled with thought at the edges as he swallowed down the thought, stuck like a rock in a bird’s gullet.

The Commander found himself back at the mouth of the den Dawnstar stayed in. He'd clear his throat, pushing through the entrance shortly after and settling down just inside the den. He was quiet and scentless these days, taking stealth to a new level unintentionally. From a distance, he could see the kittens were growing quickly. He was curious to see when they'd be made apprentices, given their size already.

"Owlthroat and Newtbelly would make fine Enforcers, I believe," Hawkbite got straight to the point, the same he always had. "I took them out on a patrol and extended an offer to poke their heads about their opinions on it. They seem devoted to it. I think we could give them a chance if they still interested you," he finished, waiting for the large feline to reply. His tail wrapped around his paws, gaze drifting towards the litter around her. It made him ponder where Slytiger had run off to. They used to be inseparable, or so he felt, and now she'd had kittens and he hadn't seen the fool around the clan since before their birth. Oh well.

Eventually, his gaze would shift back up to Dawnstar's fiery stare. His tail tip twitched with anticipation of the answer.

Her assessment finished (her roleplayer says, knowing full well the rp of that just started), Cinderpaw has a task she has set out for herself, something she will hate herself forever if she does not do now. Her grandmother was not a cat Cinderpaw found herself very close to. There was an immense amount of respect there, but there had never been a conversation between the two. There should have been, but Dawnstar is busy, and Cinderpaw is nothing if not a cat that goes out of her way not to rock the boat or cause inconvenience. Here and now? She's going against those instincts of hers to request something very important to her, something selfish, and she can only pray Dawnstar is receptive.

"Dawnst...ar..." she announces her presence, though her voice is tiny and weak from disuse, so he taps the ground as well. Not overly loud, but hopefully enough.
