Mothflame lingered close to the Medicine Den, eyes dangerously fixed on the inside despite having only half her vision. She wouldn't tolerate any more of that crap she'd seen earlier. What a bunch of RATS some ThunderClanners were, abusing kits and apprentices like that. Might as well join a different Clan at this point. She snuck glances at the Warriors' Den in the distance as well, just in case something else happened there. Ugh, what a joke. A joke, it was, that she had to WATCH OUT for other cats from her OWN Clanmates. The rosetted she-cat let out a frustrated sigh, lips curling up slightly in a light snarl.

Slypaw left the medicine den, he couldn't take it in there. He didn't want to be anywhere near it. Dad was in there and that was enough to scare Slypaw away. He saw Mothflame. She's one of the cats who saved him right? He slowly went over to Mothflame, seeking protection and comfort. He shook from fear, his ears pinned and his tail between his legs.

Slypaw left the medicine den, he couldn't take it in there. He didn't want to be anywhere near it. Dad was in there and that was enough to scare Slypaw away. He saw Mothflame. She's one of the cats who saved him right? He slowly went over to Mothflame, seeking protection and comfort. He shook from fear, his ears pinned and his tail between his legs.

Mothflame's boiling anger would soon simmer away as a familiar pelt approached her. And oh, StarClan, he looked horrible. Mothflame was instantly on her paws, a look of concern and sympathy flashing on her scarred face.
"Oh, dear, it's okay..." She murmured, inching closer to Slypaw. She didn't want to touch him from the fear it would strike something within the younger cat, so her large, fluffy tail merely lingered near his body. "You're safe. Your... Father... Will not hurt you anymore. How are you feeling right now? You can be honest with me. You can always trust me, Slypaw." Her voice was low and soft, like she was talking to a fragile butterfly.

Mothflame drew in a breath as Slypaw leaned into her, shaking, his voice small and scared. Taking this as an "good to go", the rosetted she-cat gently curled her tail around the apprentice's body and gave his ear a quick, reassuring lick.
"I know you're scared, but it will get better, trust me." She purred lowly, blinking once. But as soon as those helpless words spilled out of Slypaw's mouth, Mothflame couldn't help but tense up. Of course Bumblestar would kill him. There was no way she wouldn't. But obviously, she wasn't going to tell the young apprentice that. It would ruin him. Not now. "I don't know, yet. But what your father did was very bad, I hope you know. Don't be afraid to speak up and seek help when someone does something bad to you. You don't deserve to be treated this way, Slypaw." She paused, letting her words sink in. "If anyone ever bothers you, come to me. I'll protect you, don't worry. You have me." Was she implying that she wanted to care for Slypaw after Adderfang was gone? Probably. But for now, that was not what she wanted to worry about. Slypaw mattered the most currently.

Mothflame had learned something new about the apprentice. He was clever. She let out a soft sigh.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't sure if I wanted to tell you all the details when you're so shaken up like this," she thought for a moment. Did Slypaw know his father was a horrible cat? She assumed so, given he had mentioned Adderfang being sent to the Dark Forest after death. She gave a small, subtle nod. "If anything, your father deserves it, Slypaw. He is a horrible, horrible cat, and a horrible father. Bumblestar will not allow such cats the honour of calling themselves a Warrior of ThunderClan." The scarred she-cat lightly brushed her chin against the top of Slypaw's head.
Then, Slypaw asked her something that she'd been wanting to hear. With a warm purr, she brushed her tail against the apprentice's body. "Of course I will," she murmured, her voice soothing. "Nobody will hurt you, not while I'm alive."

It finally started to sink in at Mothflame's confirmation. Dad, the only family he's got left is gonna be gone, whether it's dead or exiled. He cried, unable to hold back the tears anymore. He wanted mama, to curl up in her warm embrace like he did as a kit. But he can't do that. Mama ain't here no more. 'Cause of dad. He's hurt 'cause of dad. He'll probably never know why dad's so mean, and maybe that was a good thing. Maybe it might be dad was hurtin', but something tells Slypaw that ain't it. Dad enjoyed it, hurting others, he had smiled when hitting Sunflowerpaw... Sunflowerpaw was hurt... 'Cause I couldn't defend himself. Dad was getting exiled or worse 'cause I'm not good enough. It's my fault. Slypaw blames himself... like dad taught him to.

Mothflame frowned, though it was something full of sympathy and worry. She drew Slypaw in closer, letting him cry against her. There was a long way to healing for Slypaw, but she knew he would make it in the end. He had to. He would never forgive Adderfang for doing this to poor Slypaw.
"It's gonna be okay, dear, don't you worry." Stars, she hoped it was true.
