Catch as much prey as she could... Yes, yes she could do that. Firepaw turns away almost instantly, mouth parting to taste the air. The familiar scent of rodent hits her, and she is immediately lowering her body, and ears perked for any sounds. Her sight, or rather, the lack of, will do no good. She had to take an advantage on her other senses.

It didn't take long for the she-cat to detect the mouse, and now that she could see it, she slowly made her way towards it, body as low as she could make it. When she was close enough, she pounced, easily catching the rodent off-guard and killed it with a swift bite to the neck.

Okay, one down.

Firepaw buried the mouse to grab it for later and she continued to silently navigate the territory. She scented a rather strong scent of birds and she narrowed her eyes at the greenery in the distance, spotting about 5 small birds pecking at something on the ground. Alright. She could catch at least one, right? The red-furred apprentice dropped low again and began to creep towards the prey, carefully eyeing each of the feathered creatures. If she could go for the one closest to her, then sh-

Aaaand she stepped on a leaf. Great. The birds instantly took off, leaving a very frustrated Firepaw. She straightened up and frowned, narrowing her eyes at the leaf as if it was the one that stepped on her. Oh well. Her fault, really. She should really watch her steps. Ugh.

At the distance, she saw a squirrel, lingering near the base of a tree. She'll go for that. She couldn't keep sulking over something that had already passed, after all. She creeped towards the squirrel, this time carefully watching her paws and her path as she did.

Well, that was easy! Firepaw jumped at the squirrel, unsheathed claws outstretched and caught it in her claws as it was about to climb the tree. Too slow. She bit down hard on the prey's neck, snapping it and killing it. Two down. She turned and tasted the air again, while also noticing the breeze was much more noticeable. She'd have to keep that in mind, too. Additionally, the scent of vole was strong. Either there were a lot, or it was near. She tasted the air again in an attempt to locate the vole, and found out she didn't have to look that far. The vole, hidden behind very few plants, was fairly easy to spot. It was like it wasn't even trying to hide. Firepaw slowly made her way towards it, slowly but surely.

She did catch the vole, but it was just barely. One heartbeat late and she would have missed it. She could definitely do better, but she wasn't too disappointed with her catch. Burying the vole along with the rest of her catches, the scarred she-cat looked around, trying to spot Shadeclaw. What had he said? When the sun was highest? She took a quick glance at the sky, eyes narrowing slightly. It didn't seem like the sun was that high, but just to make sure...

He had expectrd Firepaw to do well, but she was doing fantastic! Shadeclaw doesn't get too close in case he alerts Firepaw to his presence, but he can roughly see what she is doing, and she already appears to have caught several pieces of prey! Not only that, she was following the code as she should, and there was no danger nearby. Shadeclaw glances at Milkbee, proud to show off his apprentice, but too shy to actually say it.

He glances up at the sun. It should be high enough now. Shadeclaw emerges from the thicket in front of Firepaw. He doesn't have much expression, but his eyes glow with approval.

"Your next mission is to climb this tree." Shadeclaw meows, gesturing at a tall, stout oak. The leaves are now starting to fall, and it's a good choice for climbing. "Stay safe."

Milkbee let out a purr of amusement at Shadeclaw's silent approval of Firepaw's skills, giving the brown tabby a warm smile.

"Impressive, that girl!" She said softly, eyes fixed on the apprentice as she went about to complete the next task she was given.

Firepaw let out a relieved sigh when Shadeclaw emerged from the greenery, explaining her next objective. Climbing. She could definitely climb, she'd had a decent lesson, and even won Creepngpaw when she went against him in a small climbing competition they'd had! She gave her mentor a nod and headed towards the tree. She was quick to hook her claws into the bark and pull herself up easily, going for the nearest and strongest branch. Once she was on the branch, she made sure she was properly balanced, tail held out in a slight curve.

Once she made sure she wasn't going to fall off, Firepaw dug her claws into the tree again, and brought her body higher and higher, skipping the next nearest branch and going for the one after it instead. She moved from branch to branch, and eventually she was a great distance from the ground. Probably not enough to kill her when she fell, but she wouldn't be completely unscathed. She lowered herself onto the branch and tucked her paws underneath him, tail coiling around the branch. She looked down at Shadeclaw and shot him a soft smile, ears perked up.

"Yes." Shadeclaw meows quietly, nodding to Milkbee's compliment. It pleases him, since it's true. He gestures for Firepaw to climb back down from the tree. She has skills; she is fast, swift, and can climb fairly high, so there is nothing more to see from her climbing. Next is the last part of the assessment: battle.

Shadeclaw has already fought against Firepaw once during a battle training session, and though Firepaw acted hesitant at first, she did very well in the end. Shadeclaw was sure Firepaw would do well on the last part of the assessment as well as she did the first two missions. He places down a medium sized, smooth, white stone on the ground and turns to his apprentice.

"For your last mission, you must take this stone and place it under the tree." Shadeclaw meows, eyes glowing, "But I will defend." And Milkbee would keep watch on the both of them to make sure no predators or stray cats came close.

Shadeclaw doesn't say anything and simply positions himself on top of the stone, waiting for his apprentice to attack him first.

Firepaw's single ocean blue gaze dropped to the stone at Shadeclaw's paws, nodding along to the instructions. Take it, and place it under a tree while he defends. Sounded simple enough. The red-furred she-cat is still for a moment, before she swiftly turns and goes for Shadeclaw's backside, where he would most likely be unable to see her. Unless he turned around. But if he did turn around, that would tear his attention from the stone, right? Firepaw aimed her sheathed paws at Shadeclaw's shoulders in an attempt to catch him off-balance, or at least do enough to make him stumble.

[Shadeclaw rolls a 19]

Shadeclaw isn't a cat fond of fighting, but he still has a lot of experience, and he'd expected this to happen. Shadeclaw turns his body to the side flexibly and dodges while using his paws to bat back at his apprentice. His body is low to the ground, in a defensive stance. Shadeclaw has the stone to defend, so he can't wrestle her to the ground, but his paws are big and strong. He can dodge Firepaw easily, without stumbling. She'll have to do better than this to take the stone from him!

And of course, Firepaw should not have expected it to work perfectly the first try. Flinching sharply as a paw came down to bat at her, she jumped backwards and kept a fair distance from Shadeclaw, tail lashing. It didn't hurt, of course, and she didn't think it would. She knew Shadeclaw would never dare hurt her. Ok... Now how to make this work...

Firepaw lowered herself to the ground, eyes narrowed thoughtfully. Though it wasn't like a normal hunting crouch. Her legs were spread away from her body, and her tail flicked behind her. Maybe she could use her speed and size as an advantage. She immediated bolted forward, this time not going for Shadeclaw but the stone itself. She'd lowered herself as close as she could to the ground, hopefully this gave her a good distance from the warrior.
