"Well aside from being in charge and leading, leaders are the ones who make all the tough decisions. Clanmates may speak their mind, but at the end of the day its the leader's job to make the final call. For example, let's say ThunderClan and ShadowClan have stolen chunks of WindClan's territory during a harsh leafbare. WindClan is starving and we need those hunting grounds, do I send out cats to fight ShadowClan and ThunderClan? Should I wait and try and hang on till newleaf, do I send cats to the outskirts? We can fight, and maybe we win, but how many warriors did I lose, how many more are injured, do we have enough herbs to heal the injured, do I have enough uninjured cats to hunt?" Twilightstar yawned while resting her chin on her front paw. She waved her tail lazily, inviting the kit to sit with her.
"Things like that weigh heavily on my mind with every decision I make. Unlike regular warriors, the whole of WindClan follows me and my decisions. It's my job to guide and care for all of you. Do I send my cats to fight or do I suck up my pride, bow my head, and save a few lives? When someone is bad, what should their punishment be, and how long should it be for, or do I exile or execute? Being a leader, you must think beyond what's best for yourself and decide what is best for your clan. It's a lot of responsibility, but can be greatly rewarding as well." Twilightstar loved her clan, but boy was being a leader draining. She didn't even get into the nine lives and the potential to outlive your loved ones and friends.
"My scars are from battles, lot and lots of battles. I've lived through more than most and it's taken a toll on my body. I tend to forget how scary I can look to little ones like you." She trilled gently.
Once the nest was completed, missingbits star- uh twighlightstar climbed into it and sat down. Gesturing with her tail she invited him to join her and who was he to turn down an invitation. Especially when he was getting exactly what he wanted, answers to his questions. They weren't even short quick answers like some cats did, he knew that they responded like that to make him leave but miss twistar wasn't doing that. She was providing with long satisfying answers. He liked that! Maybe she wasn't as scary as he had thought before.
Climbing into the nest, he sat down next the leader. Tucking his paws beneath him, he looked back up at her as he listened attentively to her answer.
From what he gathered maybe being a leader wasn't that fun, it sure didn't sound fun. Too much responsibility. It just made it certain to him that he would never be a leader, never ever. " 'Guess my sister won't be a very good leader then? She ain't very responsible and I don't think Card cares for anyone other than seedkit and maybe Straws." he commented after Twighlightstar had finished explaining. If cardinalkit ever became leader it might just be the end of windclan.
"also, what thunderclan and what's shadowclan? Also are they the ones who gave you your scars? Do they hurt." he didn't want to bother the leader to much, this might just be his last batch of questions. What twighlightstar told him about leaders made him believe she must be very busy and even though she was extremely busy she was still here sparring jaggedkit sometime to answer his questions. He appreciated that.
The grin immediately returned to the little tom's face when his mother greeted him. He purred, eyes bright. Orchidkit glanced over at Coyotekit. Maybe he'd try being nice to the thing for once. He flashed him the same comfortable grin. Oh, ew. Yeah..never again. Well. Maybe, it wasn't that bad to smile the The Thing™ once in a while. Orchidkit focused his attention back on Mama. He let out an indignant sqeak as his mother showered him with licks, though he made no attempt to stop it. "Of course I'm being good!" He chriped, choosing to ignore the latter question. It was nice enough. He purred at his mother, blinking briefly when she put her nose to his cheek and gave him a curious look. He gave her a curious look right back, as he was trying to figure out what the look was about. No matter. Time for the important question. He snuggled closer to his mother, getting comfortable before opening his mouth to speak once more. "When are me and my littermates gonna be apprentices? I wanna train to be a big strong warrior!" Orchidkit questioned, looking up at his mother with round eyes.

The tom paced awkwardly at the base of the Galewood, uncertain of how to proceed. Today had been a good day... or so he thought. After the patrol they had a few days ago, the gentle giant had wondered about how to go about teaching his apprentice how to use her nose. He knew how he used his, of course, but goodness... the idea of imposing his own ways onto her was so... very daunting. True, he would just be teaching her how he did it, but what if she did not understand that she was free to come up with whatever way she was most comfortable? Or worked best for her? Or anything along those lines, really?
So he came up with the best solution he could. He took the day after the patrol as a day alone to go hunt for his kits with the idea of really taking into account how it was he hunted. How it was he used his oversensitive sniffer to his advantage. This had been Snowybreeze's original plan, after all, the day of the patrol. And he doubted the apprentice would want to see his face ever day - golly no, he would never force his presence like that on anybody, much less someone who had to stand by him by leader's command! Besides, she had been such a good apprentice the day of the patrol! She deserved a good break! And he got time with his kits! It seemed like the best call to make for sure.
He'd been wrong. Of course he had. He always was. Unfortunately, the pale warrior had no idea just how wrong he had been until it was too late. Blissfully he had woken up ignorant. Giddy even, about meeting up with Daffodilpaw and taking her out for some hunting. They could even talk about her training! Catch him up on what she knew! Plan a few training sessions and then, eventually, talk about her assessment. She was young, yes, but she was so very, very hard working. He was sure she would be ready sooner rather than later! He just... hadn't been ready for how soon... Or for how out of his control it would have been.
Snowybreeze knew Bluestrike the same way he knew most WindClanners. In passing. Never speaking to him. The gentle giant preferred to be invisible on most days, not getting in the way of others. And yet... today that invisibility had... stung. Hurt, really. Because to have seen Bluestrike take over his apprentice's assessment when he hadn't even known she had been assessment ready... How happy Daffodilpaw looked about the whole thing... How callously the warrior stated that he wasn't there, and that he might join them later?
But... but how did the gray tom expect him to catch up when he had never been informed that his apprentice was even ready to be assessed in the first place? Had... Had he misunderstood his earlier interaction with his apprentice? The white furred feline had assumed that they had gotten along. That she was eager to learn from him, but as it turned out, she had seen right through him. Had noticed him for the worthless, useless, spineless mentor that he was, and had sought out the help of a more competent warrior. Or perhaps Bluestrike was trying to shield her from the less than stellar example he could provide as a warrior and give her a better training. A more fair assessment. A more competent one.
It all boiled down to one thing. He didn't deserve to be her mentor. Not anymore. He never had, really. As it stood, he hadn't even had the chance to train her. Had no idea that she was even assessment ready due to the short time they had been paired up together. But Bluestrike did. He should be the one named as her mentor when her warrior ceremony came. Not him. He deserved it. And Twilightstar needed to hear this from him. He was sure the other tom might not come forward otherwise. Why else take them out so early and not come get him, instead expecting him to simply show up if the stars aligned just right? It was obvious that he simply wanted the best for Daffodilpaw without hurting his feelings, and he would make sure the leader knew as much.
Carefully, after his long time pacing, Snowybreeze finally took a leap, entering the leader's den. Head down in both shame and respect. He would probably not be allowed to train another apprentice after this... and he deserved it. He was not fit to teach anyone how to be a warrior. How could he be, when he was barely a warrior himself? Even other mentors could easily see that!
"T-Twilight- Twilightstar. I was. I was. Hoping... Oh. Golly. Was hopeful. That perhaps. I could. Talk to you. About. Maybe. Um... Changing. Daffodilpaw's. Mentor. To a more. To a proper. One. Like... Like Bluestrike. I think. I think. He would be. A good. A good fit. I just- Eep! I am! So. So sorry! I got. Ahead. Of myself. I shouldn't. Have been so. Impulsive. Forgive me!" the tom stammered, raising his head with horror in his eyes as he realized that he hadn't even allowed the leader a word in before he had allowed his nerves to get the better of him, his need to make sure that it was clear this was not on his apprentice taking center fold whilst he evidently forgot his manners. StarClan help him...
