Dandelionpaw tumbled out of the apprentices´ den with a loud thump and a loud ´´Oomph!´´

Pushing herself into a sitting position, the young apprentice´s chest fur was all fluffy and ruffled, causing Dandelionpaw to look like a disheveled mess. Ears drooping with embarrassment, the amber-eyed WindClanner gave her fur a quick grooming, ensuring that she was ready for today's training session whilst she waited on her mentor, Hawkfur.

Hawkfur had been expecting to have to go in to get Dandelionpaw, but to his surprise she was outside the den, looking a little disheveled but eager for training. The Fury chuckled to himself, padding up to her and giving her a nod. "I'm thinking we start with hunting, yeah?"

Hawkfur led her out into the moors so they could find some prey to catch. Once they reached a relatively flat part of the territory, he stopped and turned to face her. "Hunting is the most useful skills to have. You can use the lessons you learned in battle, you can provide for yourself and your clan. There are three main parts of hunting, and the first is crouching. Before you get into a hunter's crouch, you need to make sure you're downwind of prey. If you're fast you can chase your prey down if they spot you, but that takes up energy and makes you less effective." Hawkfur demonstrated the crouch for her, his leg smarting from his injury. He shook it away before speaking. "Keep your belly and tail off the ground so you don't brush against the grass and make noise. Keep your legs separated so you have good balance. Make sense?" He let her try it out and ask questions before moving on.

Dandelionpaw´s amber hues widened as Hawkfur explained the basics of hunting and the hunting crouch. Whenever her mentor had finished speaking, the apprentice had already dropped down into a crouch. She attempted to keep her tail lifted ever so slightly and her belly fur off the ground. ´´How´s this?´´

"Good!" Hawkfur chirped at Dandelionpaw's question, straigtening up. "Try moving around like that, as though you're stalking prey." As Dandelionpaw started doing that, Hawkfur followed after her. "Your first step when hunting is going to be scenting for prey. Then you'll do exactly what you're doing now. While you're stalking, what do you scent? Try to pick out a prey scent, if you can." He probably should have done the whole scenting thing first, but whatever. Hawkfur's method was different for every apprentice. He would love to say it's because he's tailoring his lessons to them, but it's really because he's forgetful and never remembers what lessons work and which ones don't. "Keep your own scent in mind. If the prey smells you, then you can kiss sneaking up on it goodbye. You gotta make sure you are facing downwind, so your scent gets blown behind you rather than in front of you. Make sense?"

Dandelionpaw opened her jaws slightly to taste the air as Hawkfur had instructed her. ´´I can detect a rabbit, I believe,´´ She commented, keeping her voice low as she spared her mentor a glance from amber hues. ´´...and grouse, too.´´
