"I'm fine, don't worry about me." Oh Starclan, he was already messing up as a mentor, wasn't he? Firepaw looked like she was about to break down, and he had no idea what to do. Good mentors were supposed to know what to do when their apprentices were about to break down, weren't they?

"Don't...don't apologize. You did well." Except for the fact that he would prefer it if she went less bloody next time, but he had a feeling if he told her this, she might actually get a panic attack.

He coughs lamely, "End the lesson for today?" He phrases it more like a question than a statement. He feels like he's just running away from this problem, and he doesn't like that. But he doesn't know what else to do.

Okay. He was fine. Unless he was lying. Shadeclaw wouldn't lie to her, right? He didn't seem like the kind of cat to do so. But, you never know.

She wants to take his words as a compliment. But she couldn't help but feel there was something behind his words. Or maybe she was just being paranoid. It couldn't be anything, right? She nodded. Thank StarClan!

"Y-yeah." She murmured under her breath. They could resume the training some other time, right?

"Tell...me when you feel ready for the next lesson." Shadeclaw meows shyly, "And do some stretches and massages. Before you sleep. Helps with aches from training." It was a tip that he always wanted to pass on to his own apprentice in the future, and now was the time.

"Ask Wolfpaw if anything hurts." He dips his head goodbye to Firepaw. He'll await the time she returns to him, ready to learn more, in spirit and body.

Firepaw hadn't been his apprentice for long, only around two months, in fact. And he'd barely been able to properly do anything with her. However, she already had most of the basics down, had a sweet personality, and she also tried her best for the Clan.

With that in mind, Shadeclaw considered going straight into things and doing a simple final assessment. He wouldn't relax his standards, he was going to be strict. If Firepaw succeeded, she would be a very young warrior. If she didn't do very well, she could retake it after an extra month or two, and it would only help her.

"Firepaw," Shadeclaw meows as he sees her. His meow is much less nervous than when he first met her, and is surprisingly gentle. "Come with me. Let's talk about your final assessment."

Firepaw took a moment to lounge in the clearing, stretching her limbs and sighing as she settled on the ground, wrapping her tail around herself in an attempt to shield herself from the chilling breeze. Though, her leisure time alone won't last long. Not that she minded, anyway.

The red furred apprentice's head snapped up at the mention of her name. Oh! It was Shadeclaw. With a friendly smile, she got up to her paws to look at Shadeclaw. Finall assessment...? Really?

"O-oh, yes, of course." She nodded nervously, though she tried to make herself seem more... Excited. She was! How could she not be? But nervous was just how she was. Old habits never die. She shuffled her paws and turned her head to look at Shadeclaw after realising she'd been staring at her paws for StarClan knows how long.

"The final assessment. You must complete the tasks in the given time. Without help. Alone." Shadeclaw meows briefly and sternly. But he's talking more than usual; he's gotten relaxed and more used to being with Firepaw now. It's almost a shame that she would no longer be his apprentice anymore. "If you do well, you will become a warrior. You will get your warrior name, and be called by Bumblestar. If you fail..." Shadeclaw hadn't really met anyone who had failed the assessment, so he trailed off. Likely nothing serious.

The tabby tom continues, "You don't have to take it now. You are still young. If you wish, you can have your final assessment after an extra month or two or more training. But if you want to have it early, you also may. What is your decision, Firepaw?"

Firepaw blinked. She had gotten a decent number of training... From all 6 of her past mentors. She thought she could do this... It shouldn't be too hard, right? Apprentices passed their assessment all the time. She hadn't met anyone who had failed it. But... What if she'll be the one who fails? She would get known as the apprentice who failed her warrior assessment for the rest of her life. That would be awful. And extra moon or so of training would be... Useful. But no. She was ready now. What if she wasn't ready then? The red-furred she-cat shook her head lightly.

"No, I'll- I'll take my assessment. I'm ready." She breathed, voice surprisingly steady. She felt nervous, sure, but it wasn't her usual paranoid mindset taking over her head. She was ready, and she was sure of it this time.

"Then tomorrow morning." Shadeclaw meows stiffly, "We will begin."
He needed to find another cat willing to help supervise the exam, and he supposed the exam would work better if they started at sunrise. After saying this, he pads back to the warrior's den.

The next morning, he's in front of the apprentice's den with another warrior by his side. Shadeclaw dips his head in thanks to the other cat.

Milkbee was happy to accompany Shadeclaw and Firepaw for the apprentice's assessment, agreeing to it in a blink of an eye. If she was being honest, she would have asked to come with even if the buddy system wasn't necessary. Now that she had an apprentice of her own, she'd need to figure out the ropes of the warrior assessment, given that her apprentice would need to take it soon. She turns towards the brown tabby and returns the light head dip, smiling.

"Hey, Firepaw!" She pokes her head into the Apprentices' Den, her voice low though it still had a playful hint to it. "It's time for your assessment, Shadeclaw and I are just outside!"

Firepaw was already awake when Milkbee poked her head into the den and called for her. Without missing a beat, she got up on her paws and made her way outside, shooting a friendly smile at Milkbee and Shadeclaw.

"Sooo..." She paused, tail swishing against the ground. "Out?"

Shadeclaw nods, both to Firepaw's question and to show thanks to Milkbee. He really appreciated her helping.

Once they're out camp, he meows, "Firepaw, your first mission is to catch as much prey as you can before the sun is at its highest. You must do it alone." The warriors would follow along to make sure she was safe, but they would do it secretly, out of sight.

Shadeclaw waits for Firepaw to leave and start hunting, so that he can follow her through the trees.
