rookfires ears twitched as dawnstar began assigning mentors to the newly named apprentices, even though he knew it was highly unlikely he himself would get one assigned to him, he was still curious, would do his best to remember each mentor and apprentice pair for the future. beginning with fishpaw whose assignment caused the dark furred medicine cat to get up from his usual place and move over to mudslide before he could even really realise what he was doing. they werent friends, hell no, they were far from it, but he sort of liked mudslide, less than roachflare who seemed to practically stick to her side, but she was interesting anyway. "aye 'nother apprentice, nice!" he chirped, toothy grin apperant on his white twinged maw. equally white tipped paws cool from the hardpacked soil he had been resting on and lack of movement, rookfire settled next to roachflare and mudslide before curling his tail around his body and stepping onto it to shield his forepaws from the cool. "'s yer second apprentice aye?" he asked before focussing back on the other assignments. spiderthorn who has been a warrior for a moon now, if rook remembered correctly, was assigned one of the apprentices he didnt know. bramblepaw to one of the cats he had treated after the rat n snake battle. ohh icepaw with dawnstar, interesting. grapepaw whom he didnt know besides their odd name and magpiepaw who finally got rid of foggymask as a mentor (which he smirked to himself about, knowing he had not only done shadowclan but magpiepaw a favour) but was still stuck as an apprentice by the looks of it. oh man thats a lot of reassignments. burnetpaw, lionpaw (oh he knew that one!), wisppaw, midnightpaw, eveningpaw (the one who he had taken a liking to), cloverpaw (big cry, former lostspark apprentice), duskpaw (still slacking by the looks of it), moonpaw, wispypaw, turtlepaw (uhhh). oh thats it.
finally done with the ridiculous amount of reassignments (what had happened to all the warriors god damn), there were two very special apprentices called up to receive their warrior names. gutspaw and birdpaw who very much deserved to be full warriors of shadowclan but also made him feel very old. oh man they were grown up now. the medicine cat let out a whoop of support before realising what he had done and quickly, and casually, turning to face roachflare and mudslide again.
roachflare had slipped out of the warriors den at dawnstars call, briefly shaking out his thick tri colour pelt before padding over to the crowd, eyes narrowed in search of mudslide next to whom he took his place. there were a whole bunch of reassignments he struggled to keep up with and ultimately just tried to catch either his own, or mudslides name. his own didnt ring out over the clearing, but mudslide received another apprentice which the smaller warrior welcomes with a friendly nudge of the shoulder and a sheepish grin bug hopes would cheer his friend up. bug was well aware she wasnt much of a fan of apprentices, or well, other cats in general, but dawnstar had chosen her because bug and dawnstar both knew mudslide was a great warrior! she just didnt really..see that herself. he would have to make an effort to change it but bug didnt really have the best grasp of other cats issues..or just preferences. he knew what he liked, most of the time at least. and bug could make an attempt to understand others but in the end it was easier for bug to just listen and offer comfort instead of trying to find a solution. "i can help with the training, if you want" roach offer quietly, nudging his muzzle into his friends fur, fluffier than during greenleaf and tickling his spotted nose.
before he knew, another cat had appeared, the medicine cat, rookfire, whom he considered a friend by now but didnt really seem to understand mudslide like he did. he was a bit .. rough if that was the right word.. not like muds was too fragile or anything, roach was just a bit more of the quiet sort and appreciated others doing the same.
Thump, thump, thump her heart beat waiting to hear her new namel “From this day forward you’ll be known as Fishpaw.” fishpaw, mostly drowned out the names of the other kits and only focused on hers, was that rude? maybe , maybe not. Once she heard her new name she gave a happy smile as she looked around for her dad ‘ was he here? Did he see that now shes an apprentice?’ she thought looking around the clearing … she didnt see him, well she could go and look for him later, with a sigh fishy turned her head back to the grimpeak waiting to see who her mentor would be “fishpaw your mentor will be mudslide” dawnstar spoke again.
Fish looked back around the camp looking for mudslide she had seen the warrior a few times but never spoke to them; she hoped they were a good mentor. Fishpaw turned away from grimpeak she hoped that it was okay to move, padding around the crowd she lookedfor mudslide finding the brown and cream she-cat “ Hello! she meowed looking at them with her green eyes
The leaders gruff call met her ears, and her paws pushed her up from her mossbed in response. Mudslide didn't want to go outside, it was cold, and her paws tingled from the harsh ice that laced the ground. As much as she hated her leaf-bare coat, it kept her warm, so the numbing weather wasn't too bad...
The she-cat took her spot at the edge of the clearing, but she stayed within earshot. She was hoping, praying, that the restrictions would be lifted. Staying in one place easily became suffocating to her. While she still considered Shadowclan a home (maybe not a permanent one, but a home) she did not want to stay in the same place all day without new areas to stimulate her.
She began to pick mindlessly at the grass below, her eyes fluttering as they threatened sleep. No... She could stay awake. Meetings usually didn't take very long, nothing would make with one different. Except it was different, Roachflare was here. At the sight of bug, her expression visibly lifted, but not enough to give away any deeper emotion. She would've smiled if she could, but she couldn't. So, she took her tail, something she'd usually wrap around herself, and wound it around Roachflare until it met his forepaws, tapping the tip of it lightly on his paws, her silent greeting.
Kits were working their way up to apprenticeship, cats she didn't know the names of, nor did she bother to learn. Her interest dwindled as each cat was called, before hers was among the mix, coming after some former kit named Fishpaw.
No.
No, no, no, no.
Her shoulders squared, and she ducked her head low, cleverly disguising her distressed gaze with a steep nod of agreement. All of it was a show. The world was blurry. Who... What idiot paired her up with another apprentice? Who? She wanted to speak with them personally. Sure, one cat was fine, not what she wanted, but fine. But... Two? She felt the bile rise in her throat, urging to be spat out, but Mudslide swallowed it down, her head low.
She'd have to get up sooner or later... To greet her apprentice. Mudslide tensed in an attempt to still trembling paws. It worked. Icy eyes looked over to bug, her expression deadpan. He smiled at her, and she felt a bit better, leaning on bug slightly for support. She let out a shallow and quiet purr at his offer, a sound that merely lasted a few heartbeats. Thank you, she thought, slowly lifting her head, only for her eyes to meet the darkened silhouette of Rookfire. He never left her alone, did he?
The words that came from the herbalist didn't seem to be laced with malice, but Mudslide still didn't accept them. She had no idea what his motivations were, what his angle was, what made him think she was oh so interesting. She had to figure out how to shoo him away sooner or later before he ended up doing something stupid and she'd end up caring.
Wow, thanks for the reminder that I have two cats to train and interact with. You're such a saint. Mudslide thought, her voice dripping with sarcasm. But she wouldn't say that aloud... Why would she? She simply met Rookfire's gaze, twitched her whiskers, then nodded. She hoped her eyes wouldn't give away her anxiety.
Speak of the devil, the apprentice was right there, at her paws with a very concerning scar matting the fur around her face and down her neck. Mudslide gave Rookfire a look, "What... Happened?" She whispered, her tone hitching at the end to show it was a question. Before he could respond, she lifted herself up and touched her marbled nose to her new apprentice. Now, Mudslide didn't care for anycat (except for bug and Squeaks), but when a kit had scars like that, it was a cause for concern.

They totally was there at the meeting, in no way were they late to showing up or makin themselves a known presence. That didn't change the fact that they heard what grandma was saying and heard their name being mentioned. Guess that meant that Rassberryswirl became nothing but a speck of dust in the wind, oh well. She had never really done their part in being a mentor to them anyways, they couldn't even recall if they even approached them for training. Wispypaw had doubts this new mentor would be any different, especially if they weren't the only apprentice to get reassigned. The blind apprentice, stayed in their spot in the back not moving an inch to go searching for their new mentor. Not that they'd have a easy time to pint point them when they don't recognize their scent to do so.
Ears perked up at hearing one of their siblings names called to the front, here comes the new trend. If things went their way hopefully they would be next to become an apprentice but that was only a hope. For now they wait till their time came and for the rest of this meeting to continue on.

Starlingcall frowns, looking over the crowd to try to spot its new apprentice, whiskers twitching. Is Wispypaw even here? Surely someone would help her traverse the crowd if she was. Much to Starlingcall's relief, it manages to spot Wispypaw amongst the crowd. Fur bristling, Starlingcall shoulders their way to the apprentice, side eyeing anyone who doesn't move out of its way. Once it manages to pad up to Wispypaw, Starlingcall dips its head out of habit.
"Hello, Wispypaw. I'm Starlingcall." Starlingcall says once it remembes the apprentice cannot see them bowing their head. "Training will begin immediately. Don't expect me to go easy on you with your training, I expect any apprentice of mine to be a powerful warrior," Starlingcall states, ears pushed forward. She will have an apprenticeship just as difficult as it had.

(lmk when you wanna set up a training thread! Starlingcall is so ready to teach Wispypaw how to be bloodthirsty hehehe)
Daintycurl twitched her ears with surprise, but she did the familiar ceremony of touching her nose to her new apprentice. It seemed like she had already had some training and didn't seem like she would have to do too much work with this young cat. "It's nice to meet you."

Ratflame blinked multiple times when her name was called. A mentor? She was going to be a mentor? She straightened up immediately as she looked at the new apprentices. When she spotted the tabby, she dipped her head low enough to press her nose up against his own. What should she say? "I'm happy to get to know you." That felt dumb, hopefully it wasn't. She hadn't made any unrealistic promises at least.

Wormpaw • He / It • Shadowclan apprentice • 9+ moons
Wormpaw called out the names of the new apprentices, remembering the excitement when he'd first been made an apprentice. He noted Cherrywood was assigned a new apprentice, hopefully this one would go better than her last one.
The black and white tom then looked around for the two cats receiving their warrior names. It was funny to see so many becoming apprentices together, and then only one or two would become warriors at a time.
"Oh yeah, you have kits now." She vaguely remembered being told they were going to have kits, but hadn't thought much about it since. She should go visit them sometime. "What's their names again? And who's the mother? You're not secretly a she-cat, are you?" Doeflame's whiskers twitched in amusement as she looked pointedly at Owlthroat's underbelly, undoubtable evidence that he was born a tom.
Doeflame's eyes flickered to Tuftedtusk as he took a seat next to them, and she gave him a broad grin and a wave of her tail. "Hey, Tuft! Owlthroat and I were just talking 'bout your kits. I heard they're very cute."
Andddd... There it was. Her reassignment. Wow, this was BEYOND disappointing. She didn't even know who Saltcloud was!! What a wimp, probably just as useless as her previous mentors. Still, the tortoiseshell cat lifted herself to her paws and looked around, but not before yelling out the names of the new apprentices. Good for them!! Hopefully they'd actually get mentors that weren't the scum of the earth.
Also, Spiderthorn got an apprentice! The smaller she-cat tried to ignore the obvious leap in her heart, as though it were trying to push through her throat and sprawl out into the floor, for all to see. She was so proud of him. Maybe she could... Caramel eyes searched the crowd, no longer looking for her possibly terrible mentor. No, no, she was looking for Spiderthorn, a cat she didn't mind seeing.
As she searched for his blue eyed gaze, she yowled, "AYE, SAPPHIRE!! CONGRATULATIONS!" She mewed, with a toothy maw and possibly the most genuine smile she'd had in over a moon. Now, it was time to go slug hunting.
She waltzed right up to Saltcloud as soon as she saw him, her eyes narrowed judgementally. Honestly? He should've came to her first! "Hey, I'm Magpiepaw, your new apprentice." She said with annoyed tones. "I have a good amount of my training completed, other than maybe a territory tour, soooo...." Yes, Magpiepaw was aware of the camp restrictions, she wasn't stupid.
Saltcloud glanced down at a she-cat who had sufdenly bounded up to him, annoyance through her tone. As he registered what she was saying, he let his mind wander slightly. He hadn't been expecting to be picked to be a mentor, he thought he was rather young for it. However, if the leader thought he was a good fit, then he must be. "That's no way to talk to your mentor," He chided, once Magpiepaw had stopped talking. "You should treat your mentor with respect and that includes watching your tone. It is good you've completed most of your training, and as for a tour of the territory..."
Saltcloud trailed off, eyes narrowing as he gazed past the apprentice to look past the camp. He would have to see about getting to take her on a tour, perhaps if a large enough group of cats went.He shook his head and turned back to his new apprentice. "First things first, I'd like to know what you've learned already."
