Cricket nodded, that was about what she expected given the state she found him in. “Well that’s gonna change today!” She declared, whiskers twitching in excitement. “Now mice can be tricky. They can feel your pawsteps long before they actually hear you. So being light on your paws is critical when hunting mice.” She explained. Thankfully, mice were extremely common. So even if Cardinal missed this opportunity, there’d be plenty more.
“Try and copy me.” She directed, crouching into a hunter’s stance. Her tail wrapped around her flank and her body lowered, belly fur barely skimming the ground below.

Cricket frowned with concern. Was this going to get infected? Great sky above she hoped not, they really couldn't take much more. She bent to sniff it, not picking up any sourness in the air around it...so it should be okay. She looked Cardinal in the eyes. "Are you sure?" She asked, her tone and gaze gentle but firm. She didn't want to push him.

Cricket nodded, turning away from Cardinal and opening her mouth, drawing scents from the environment through her mouth. She tracked down a nearby mouse, and angled her ear to indicate to Cardinal where the mouse was. Crouching down, she wrapped her tail around her flank to ensure its long, thick fur wouldn’t get in the way. Belly fur brushing against the ground, she crept forward carefully, setting her paws down softly and precisely to produce no sound.
Glancing back to check on Cardinal and ensure he was still there, she tilted her nose upwards to check the wind for any changes. Then, she pounced. Bringing her paw down on the mouse hard, she delivered a swift blow to its neck with her teeth to end its life mercifully quick. Cricket picked up the mouse and trotted back to Cricket, setting it down between them. “Now, what did you see?” She asked, curious to see what Cardinal observed.
