Yawning as she stepped out of the den, Eaglepaw stretched languidly and hummed to greet the cool early leaf-fall morning. The kittens were doing well, Rhiannon was slowly healing, and Nathaniel must have stepped out for a herb run. Eaglepaw might have been a little frustrated that he didn't take her with him, but she wasn't going to push her presence on the grieving tom.

She was getting older, and she could feel it. Her kitten features had grown out, her body growing into her previously large paws. She was massive--not as big as some of the ShadowClan cats she had seen during her two Gatherings in RiverClan, but pretty big for RiverClan's standards. But with her size came the issue of living with it. Eaglepaw found herself frequently bumping into things and tripping over herself, unused to moving fluidly with such a big frame. She needed someone to train her how to move like a clan cat, again. She'd gotten soft. The very thought sent dread sluicing down her pelt and consumed her attention until she found herself curled up under the bridge, claws digging into the soft dirt in fear.

Luckily for her, someone frequented enough where she could bother him for training.

Emerald eyes opened up, slits at first as she adjusted to the sunlight outside the den, then widening with a youthful joy as she spotted a familiar brown pelt. "Sparrow!" Eaglepaw called, trotting towards the fellow outsider as he approached the Caduceus Place. "Sparrow! How long are you staying? I've got a question for you."

A familiar ginger and cream pelt streaked towards him from under the bridge where he knew some outsiders lived, earning a grunt from the large tom as she immediately started pestering him with questions. Stars, she was even worse than Freya. "Hey kid. Carry these for me, would you?" He dropped the finch in his mouth unceremoniously at Eaglepaw's paws, not bothering to wait for her as he continued towards the bridge. "I'm just passing through, don't expect much from me."

But then she was asking for... "Training?" He raised a brow, glancing sidelong at the cat beside him, finch in her mouth. "For what? You ain't a clan cat anymore, why do you care?"

Eaglepaw struggled to keep up with the lumbering tom--even though she was big, he was bigger. "Yeah! I want to keep my skills sharp!" She then proceeded to trip over herself, nearly face-planting on the ground. "A-and I'm bored. My dad left and Nathaniel is busy so I need someone to train me in advanced battle techniques, fishing, and water combat!"

Sparrow scowled, ears pinning back as the kid rambled on about the training she needed. Stars forbid he ever head over in this direction again. But... he did sort of miss having an apprentice. Freya was close enough, usually, but was rather averse to training and frankly didn't need much to handle herself. Maybe this would be a good opportunity to test Sparrow's teaching skills. The former RiverClanner slowed, sighing heavily and glancing at the eager young feline next to him. "Fine. I will teach you advanced combat and fishing."

At Eaglepaw's gasp of delight, Sparrow's ears pinned back further. Stars, she didn't have to make such a big deal about it. As the pair moved to a secluded part of the park, Sparrow gestured for Eaglepaw to drop the finch and to ready up for a spar. The gentle babbling of the brook where Nathaniel made his den filled the quiet air. The fire in the Twolegplace--for that was what Sparrow assumed to have happened based on the smoldering ruins of the twoleg dens nearby--had left the park deathly silent. Displaced kittypets still roamed, but most of the twolegs had gone. Maybe this was for the best.

"Attack me."

Eaglepaw was painfully slow on the uptake, staring at him with hesitant green eyes before finally moving to swipe at him. He dodged it, his massive form coming around the former apprentice and ramming his shoulder into her side, sending her sprawling. "Pathetic. Don't hesitate. Try again."

Side smarting alongside her pride, Eaglepaw pushed herself up and shook out her fur. Sparrow's commentary hurt, but Eaglepaw wasn't about to let that get the better of her. She darted forward, about to ram into Sparrow and try the same thing he did, but suddenly stopped right in front of him and hissed in pain.

Sparrow paused, thrown off kilter by her sudden exclamation of pain, but that was all Eaglepaw needed. The molly took his moment of surprise to throw her arms around his shoulders and drop hard. An unbalanced Sparrow went down heavily, his weight crushing Eaglepaw beneath him. Okay, maybe she didn't think this through!!! Eaglepaw wiggled away, twisting out from under his heavy body. He surged upward, narrowly missing Eaglepaw's with a powerful shoulder. The feline darted away before coming back for another attempt, using her gained momentum to leap up and over Sparrow's back, landing on his spine and sending him toppling again. She was big, so she slipped off immediately, but the job was already done. Lunging again, Eaglepaw aimed to sink her sheathed paws into Sparrow's exposed belly fur.

But the more seasoned warrior knew what she was going to try. He brought up his back legs, battering Eaglepaw's chest and stomach as she tried to get at him. Dull pain bloomed with each kick until Eaglepaw got off of him, trotting away and coughing. Her ears burned with embarrassment. She had almost had him!!
