Whitefall

Whitefall wasn’t sure what possessed her to do this. Teaching an apprentice that is, she wasn’t a teacher and it showed terribly so. It’s way she hasn’t had an apprentice actually assigned to her before. At least that’s her theory on the matter. And she was fine with that, content with just doing her jobs as they were patrolling and keeping everything she can running smoothly. So now she was padding towards the apprentices den to collect whatever wayward soul that decided that they wanted to be taught by Whitefall. She didn’t expect anyone to answer her call. She was a social nobody and wasn’t impressively skilled in anything. But she was free so why not? She poked her head in and looked around the space. “Hello? Anyone want some training? I’d be open to teaching anything.”

“That’s it!? But I want to play!!”

”Training?” Wildpaw purked up as he heard the suggestion and it didn’t even matter that it was coming from a warrior that he didn’t even know. He hopped up to his paws, the messy shreds of moss that was previously known as his nest tumbling off of his dark and ginger fur. He really wanted to train. He feels like he has done NOTHING at all and that wasn’t good! It made Wildpaw want to tear something apart actually!

Also Vinesmoke was a warrior now! So Wildpaw just had to catch up so that he could be a warrior with bunny! Couldn’t leave Bunny all alone. “Hunting! Hunting! And then combat!” He had gotten the gist of regular old hunting from Deadmoon but he didn’t really know how to hunt rabbits and that was important as a Windclan cat wasn’t it? Yes, yes it was. He pushed right past Whitefall and started towards the camp exit, already racing out and causing a ruckus.

Whitefall

”Oh stars! Oh Stars!” The warrior found herself cursing her decision to even offer training because she was not prepared to be chasing after a rowdy apprentice. He said he wanted to hunt but with how he’s being while racing through the territory right ahead of her, there wouldn’t be anything to hunt left. Where was he going? Did he know the borders?? STARS she hopes that Wildpaw knows the borders.

Though the prayer was found unnecessary as suddenly, the apprentice came to a stop in a field in general territory. Not really near any landmarks. Whitefall nearly tripped over herself coming to stop and trying to stop from crashing straight into Wildpaw. She managed… barely. “Wildpaw!” Though she lost her fire and sighed. “Show me what you know of hunting, then we’ll move on from that.”

“That’s it!? But I want to play!!”

He laughed in response, well he didn’t get a lecture so they were certainly different from Deadmoon and Ashcloud. Strange… She seemed upset but she didn’t do ANYTHING about it. Why, she’s probably more a mouse than anything worthy of having a title like Bunny’s. He rolled his eyes at the order and dropped down into a crouch that Deadmoon taught him and started to crawl forward.

He opened his mouth a bit to scent the air. Then tried his best to follow it. Wildpaw almost gave it up and just went back to Whitefall planning to hound her on combat training NOW rather than later, when scuffling ahead of him caught his attention. His pupils narrowed into slits. He slowed his breathing, and crawled forward carefully. The mouse came into view.. And just as it did, Wildpaw shot forward, slamming his paws down on the creature. Though his paw barely landed on its tail, that was enough.

Wildpaw secured the kill and trotted back to Whitefall with it proudly.

Whitefall

She blinked in surprise as the apprentice came strutting back with a catch in his maw. Nothing more than a scrawny little field mouse behind on its hibernation plans, but it was prey, and it was caught on the moor during later Leaffall. “I take it that you can hunt on moor pretty well. Did you by chance mean a rabbit hunting lesson?” Whitefall asked to clarify. That would make the most sense. Wildpaw nodded viciously, it almost gave her phantom whiplash just watching but she continued.

“Right, hide that mouse under some brush… bury it and then follow after me.” She waited for him to do so, and when he seemed ready enough she started down the moor, voice low as she started to explain the way of rabbit chasing, “Rabbits live in burrows, and will usually attempt to run back to them, so when you start the chase, dedicate yourself to the chase because there is no backing out. You crouch just as you did with other prey, approach as close as possible, if you have other cats with you, plan for someone to loop around the rabbit and chase the rabbit into them, by yourself you have to be smart. Try and trap the rabbit, get the spook on the rabbit, throw it off.” She stopped, looking to Wildpaw, “Questions?”

“That’s it!? But I want to play!!”

”Got it!” Wildpaw started forward, considering the verbal lecturing done because that was his absolute least favorite part of learning anything, all the yappy yapping. It was better to practice and fail than listen and listen and listen and feel like he’s moments away from EXPLODING! Wildpaw just wants to start already!

Burrows right? Could he scare some rabbits out of their burrows? He started to search around the moor for any signs of holes that may lead to rabbits. Eventually he spotted one, and with a sniff he realized that there must be some rabbits in there if the scent was so strong! He started to dig at it.

Throwing his unsheathed paws at it viciously, ripping at the earth. Wildpaw was no tunneler and the dirt was flung everywhere and it wasn’t really much for keeping itself up. But somehow… Perhaps through luck, a rabbit suddenly kicked through the earth like some kind of messed up plant. Wildpaw let out a feral sounding sound, chittering escaping his throat as he tore forward. Taking advantage of the surprised and scared rabbit that was forced to dig out of its home.

It did take a second though but Wildpaw did manage to snag his claws on its tail. Halting it, dragging it back as he jumped forward, fangs flashing as they clamped harshly along the neck of the prey. He once more, returned to Whitefall, and smiled.

Whitefall

"Good job," She could almost forget how much of a menace this kid was. Running off several times, not staying for the full lecture, digging up rabbits rather than finding them... he was strange, but he got the job done so why should she complain. "You said fighting next? Then let's spar, I imagine you wouldn't want me to explain. Maybe you'll learn better by being flattened on the ground." She offered. And when the apprentice responded loudly and eagerly.

Though him charging at her took her by surprise. It really shouldn't have. That was strike whatever at how crazy this one was. Though maybe with some more training that eccentric-ness could be utilized. She raised up on her hind legs, and slammed her front paws down as Wildpaw approached, putting a harsh stop to his charge, and slammed him into the ground. Whitefall hopped back, "Again. Don't be so reckless."

“That’s it!? But I want to play!!”

Wildpaw lets out a harsh oof sound as his lungs are more or less crushed with the weight of a fully grown warrior squasking him down. That's not fair! That's not fair! He wanted to cry out but he knew he wasn't a kit so instead he thrashed harshly, only for the warrior to back off. This time he didn't even let her speak, dashing forward and staying low to the ground as he got close enough to jam his paws forward, aiming to try and hit her neck and chest as hard as possible with a growl.
