Closed Question about a terminology

I've just come back after about 4 years and a lot of stuff has changed, so here's my first question: what is a header? I see that word everywhere and I've got no clue what it is.

A header is basically like an image that you typically put on top of a rp post. It gives people an idea of what your chracters look like

(Ex: the art in this post or this one would be considered a header)
