Rainfur sat down knowing that that was a good decision since she had become a queen most recently with her second litter. She flinched at the thought of all the still bodies that she couldn’t save. She was lucky to even have Breezepaw survive.

As Stormstar called for three kits to step up to the Stormcrest, Irisfrost watched as one, two came forwards. Where was the third? Maybe they were still in the nursery. Strange; she didn't know how a kit would miss Stormstar calling their name, but who knew.

They became apprentices, and then it was time for reassignments. Irisfrost liked Stormstar's new policy; that if a warrior didn't train their apprentice they wouldn't be assigned another one. Hopefully it would stop (or at last reduce the number of) apprentices getting mentors that neglected them.

Hearing her name among the reassignments startled her, and it took her a moment to realise she had been given one. Breezepaw. Irisfrost's brows furrowed; she didn't think she would've been given another apprentice, not when there were plenty of warriors without one. Maybe Stormstar thought she had done a good job training Grimpaw. But that couldn't be it; she hadn't gone above the standards of a decent mentor. Maybe Stormstar's bar of an exceptional mentor was lower than she had thought.

But... wait, she hadn't seen Grimpaw around lately. Sure, the camp was big enough that they might just not have noticed each other as they did their daily tasks, but he could be missing. Thinking about it, it wasn't an unlikely scenario. Irisfrost frowned, deciding she would look for Grimpaw later, to see if he was still a part of RiverClan. She wasn't going to abandon his training and then find out later that he had been there, waiting for her to take him out all along.

But first she would speak to her new apprentice. "Breezepaw, over here," she called, knowing the apprentice likely wouldn't know who she was.

@Spookytail

Oh um hi? I’m breezepaw and um it’s nice to meet you! Can um we start patrolling or hunting or um fighting? Rainfur taught me a little bit so um I know how to hunt… ooh watch this.. *puffs out fur so he looks full grown* Rainfur said that this is a good move for apprentices! Ya know since we’re so small! Ooh I can’t wait until momma rainfur has my sibs!

How exciting, a new warrior. She didn't know any of the apprentices, however, she had a fishing lesson with Rain'paw before, so that could count. Cricket'paw made no moves though, and watched through open eyes.

If aspenpaw hadn't looked up when he did he might have missed the look stormstar had sent him. It was enough to convince him to shut his trap and sit silently. whether the reason for the glare was because he was talking to much or maybe she heard his tone, it really didn't matter all he knew was that he rather not be on the leaders bad side. Sitting quietly it is! From Seabreeze's silence it didn't seem like the warrior was going to answer his questions anyway.

Aspenpaw zoned in and out of the meeting only paying a bit of his attention when the kits- or more so his soon to be new denmates stepped forward to receive their rank. Fawnkit and duskkit, he didn't know either personally but he cheered their names loudly anyway. Becoming an apprentice was one of the best moments in his life and he was sure it would be for them too, maybe he'd teach them a thing or two from what he already learnt. You know, be a friendly den mate an all.

After duskpaw and fawnpaw greeted their new mentors, stormstar continued the meeting moving on to reassignments. Aspenpaw rolled his eyes, seriously this again? It felt like every meeting some poor apprentice was getting a new mentor because their former ones had been very neglectful and undeserving of the rank warrior. Aspenpaw was just about to zone out in a spiral of other thoughts when her a specific name announced. Salamanderpaw. Again? But hadn't she just gotten a new mentor last meeting??? Seapaw too? Infact there was a pawful of his den mates getting new mentors. Without really thinking about it, his eyes sought out Mander and seashell. If their mentors weren't going to actually do their jobs then he would just drag them along with him, he knew a decent amount of stuff to teach them and he was sure Floodsight wouldn't mind-

Floodsight.

For a moment he felt angry again, still offended. Still feeling petty but then shame and guilt started to overlap the previous emotions. He had a great mentor, who was responsible and caring. She trained him well, taught him so much, she was patient and never once neglected or forgot about his training. He'll and what had he done in return? Throw tantrums and act like a bratty kit! He'd been so.... ungrateful

It was time to suck up his pride an apologise.

Risin' to his paws, he bumped seabreeze with his shoulder, "don't think I'm done, I'll be back later" he informed the tom. Bet he was also a bad mentor. With not even a goodbye, he was off making his way through the crowd of seated cats in search for his mentor. When he finally found her it seemed he had been the second to approach the warrior. Usually he would just turn tail and find something or someone else to bother and leave her interact with her friend? But today was different. He had to apologise, something he'd rarely done before.

"Floodsight" he called, not raising his voice to much. There was a meeting going on after all. Once he was close enough to the warrior he headbutt her shoulder and sat down. "I'm sorry, you were right. I shouldn't have lied and I shouldn't have thrown a tantrum after or have been upset about it for as long as I did. You've been patient with me even though I've been.... difficult. I'd like you to know that I'm glad your my mentor and that I'm sorry!" aspenpaw had never really meant his apologize before but this was the first time he did, had he done it correctly? Was Floodsight still mad at him?? He hoped she wasn't, he'd avoided even looking at her his entire apology and had instead focused on staring at his paws. Thought the whole of it he had tried to keep his voice down, couldn't let others overhear him apologising for acting like a kit. "please forgive" he added quieter. He'd just realised that there seemed to be a warrior ceremony happening, maybe he hadn't chosen the best moments to make amends with his mentor. Aspenpaw looked up only to see it was Primrose paws warrior ceremony. Shoot! Well atleast he hadn't been talking loudly! Maybe his quiet charter had been disruptive though. Aspenpaw stared apologetically at prim however he was unsure if she would see him anyway.

Weepingwind
short-furred, black ghost tabby with dark green eyes
purrks: n/a
she/her | riverclan warrior | 31 moons

As soon as Stormstar began talking, the dark-furred tabby was quick to face her attention up towards the Skyridge, her ears angled forward with interest. When Stormstar announced the success of the patrol, pride swelled in Weepingwind’s chest, a flicker of warmth spreading beneath her fur. She remembered the tense moments along the bank, claws scraping wet stones and the splash of water as they drove the otters back and out of their territory. It hadn’t been easy, but they’d managed it as a team, and the thought of RiverClan’s territory free of the intruding creatures filled her with a fierce loyalty. She gave Peachspring a quick glance over her shoulder, not hiding the smile she had held for the ginger warrior as she had been involved in the fight as well. Stormstar’s reminder to remain vigilant was met with a harsh gleam in Weepingwind’s eyes. The otters might have been driven off, but she knew all too well how quickly things could change along the river, especially with leaf-bare creeping in. The currents would grow stronger, and icy water was no less dangerous than any intruder. At the mention of ceremonies, Weepingwind watched with interest as only two of the mentioned kits made their way to the front. It was a shame that Russetkit didn't make their appearance in time, but perhaps by the time the next meeting arrives they will become an apprentice.

For a heartbeat, Weepingwind allowed herself a soft smile, thinking back to her own apprentice days, the thrill and nervousness mingling together. It was a while ago, but still something she liked to think about more often than not. Peachspring’s voice caught the older molly’s attention and the ghost tabby turned her attention back towards her. Listening to the ginger molly’s enthusiastic recount of the experience with the otters brought a chuckle to Weepingwind’s lips. Peachspring’s pride was infectious, and Weepingwind found herself nodding along, a crooked smirk tugging at her mouth as she pictured the “nasty wet rats” Peachspring described. There was a kind of camaraderie that came with these battles—a shared understanding of RiverClan’s growing resilience and unity. Listening to Peachspring’s animated recounting, Weepingwind felt a deeper kinship spark between them both, woven from the bonds forged in both the calm of routine and the chaos of defending their territory. "Those otters had no clue who they were dealing with," she replied with a crooked grin. "RiverClan doesn’t back down." She couldn’t help but feel a surge of affection as Peachspring went on about her past, a glint of nostalgia in her eyes as she described the foxes that used to terrorize her Twoleg farm.

Weepingwind’s gaze softened at the thought, imagining the wide-eyed kit Peachspring must have been, hiding from foxes and watching feathers fly. The warrior hadn't ever experienced something as traumatic as that, but something like that? That would undoubtedly ruin someone for life. "You know, I’d take a wet rat over a fox any day too. They're all sly and unpredictable." She gave the ginger molly a friendly nudge with her shoulder. "But we’re more than just a match for them now, aren't we? Besides, having you along in the fight made things a whole lot more entertaining, even if we haven't truly interacted with one another before." She gave the younger molly another lopsided grin, showing her more compassionate side than she would care to admit. Seeing Peachspring’s surprised reaction to Weepingwind’s compliments made her chuckle. Watching the younger warrior’s reaction was like watching a kit discover a shiny shell in the nursery. When Peachspring called her a ‘sweetheart,’ Weepingwind rolled her eyes playfully, though she couldn’t hide the smirk that tugged at her lips. "Careful, or you’ll spoil me with all these nice words you're spilling." she teased, but there was a flicker of genuine warmth behind her deep green eyes. Even with both warriors sharing this rather rare moment of closeness, Weepingwind felt a faint flicker of something she hadn’t allowed herself to feel in a long time—a quiet comfort in the presence of another.

Maybe it was the post-adrenaline still lingering from the fight or the pride that swelled with the reminder of RiverClan’s strength, but Peachspring’s genuine enthusiasm and easy camaraderie made the camp feel warmer, more alive. "You know," Weepingwind continued, glancing toward up toward the base of the Skyridge to continue listening to Stormstar speak, "fights like that remind me of what we’re all fighting for. RiverClan is more than just the territory—it’s who we are. We’re built for the water, for challenges no other Clan can handle." Her gaze softened, though a flicker of intensity still danced in her eyes, an edge that came from countless moons of pushing boundaries and testing her own limits. As Stormstar moved into the apprentice reassignments, Weepingwind’s attention sharpened. The ceremony was one thing, but the reassignment of apprentices was another matter altogether. Stormstar’s tone was serious, and the disappointment was clear when she spoke of mentors who’d neglected their duties. When she heard her name, Weepingwind straightened, a brief flicker of surprise crossing her face as she realized she’d be taking over Starrypaw’s training. She glanced down at the young apprentice as the silver-furred molly approached, her steps tentative, but her gaze seemed brave despite the faint shimmer of tears in her eyes.

When their noses touched, Weepingwind felt a soft pang in her chest as she noticed the tear that slid down Starrypaw’s cheek. She knew the look of abandonment, the sting of disappointment that lingered in the young cat’s gaze. She knew it all too well from her apprentice days after her sister left RiverClan. The pain of it all didn't hurt as bad as it used to, but it still was a lingering reminder of what Silvershine had chosen moons ago. Swallowing down the bitterness of the memory, she continued to hold Starrypaw’s gaze, offering the young cat a gentle but firm nod. “I won’t let you down, kid,” she murmured softly, her voice carrying a promise only a few could ever fully understand. Weepingwind wasn’t the type to coddle, but there was a sliver of determination in her tone—a reassurance that she would be there, that she’d push Starrypaw, but also protect her. She took a step back to part from the young molly, giving Starrypaw a moment to steady herself. Weepingwind’s heart raced a little faster, remembering what it felt like to be a new apprentice with a world of expectations on her shoulders. A pang of nostalgia mixed with responsibility settled within her. She could almost feel the weight of her former mentor’s steady presence, the lessons she’d been taught, both harsh and kind, and the pride she’d felt on the rare occasions when she’d managed to impress them. Now, she was the mentor, and the thought filled her with a strange combination of pride and apprehension.

Turning her attention back towards Peachspring for a brief moment, watching her friend—yes, she supposed Peachspring was a friend—for a brief moment before replying with a crooked grin seeping onto her lips. “Guess we’re both mentors now, huh?” she said with a low chuckle, the amusement glinting in her eyes. Watching Peachspring’s excitement was oddly infectious, the way her tail flicked and her eyes sparkled as she scanned the crowd for her new apprentice, Jaggedpaw. Weepingwind tilted her head, taking in Peachspring’s lively energy with a sort of fondness. She didn’t let herself connect often, but there was something easy about being around Peachspring—like the ginger warrior’s natural brightness cut through the stormy edges of her own personality. “We’ll definitely need to take them out training together,” she agreed, giving Peachspring an approving nod. “Who knows? Maybe a little friendly competition will do them good.” The thought of shared training sessions, both apprentices potentially pushing each other’s limits, brought a mischievous glint to her eye. Training was more than just duty—it was the fire and grit of growing strong for RiverClan. And something told her that, with Peachspring around, those training sessions would be anything but dull. Peachspring’s suggestion to go hunting or take some time to themselves made Weepingwind’s smirk widen, and she flicked her ear, a trace of a playful gleam in her gaze.

“Alone, huh? We’ll see about that, Peaches,” she teased, letting the nickname slip out naturally. It was casual, something rather small, but the warmth in her tone was unmistakable. As Peachspring bounded off to find Jaggedpaw, Weepingwind’s gaze lingered on her friend, a feeling of quiet admiration stirring in her chest. She shook her head, a soft chuckle escaping her. This was new and different, but not unwelcome. Focusing back towards the Skyridge, the molly noted the fact that Primrosepaw was going to become a warrior this coming meeting. Good for her, she deserved it after training her hardest to become a warrior for the clan. All Weepingwind could hope for was that she didn't eventually do something in the future that would regret that would sour her reputation. That would be horrible.

Whisperingkit beamed immediately when Berryshine said she could sit with them, she was so nice! Like Cobwebfern! The long-furred silvery she-cat's jaw dropped when Berryshine knew her name, and revealed that she had been there to help birth her! That was crazy! She nodded to signify that she was in fact Whisperingkit. "Th-That's amazing Ms. Berryshine! I didn't know!" She purred, whiskers twitching in excitement. She had all kinds of questions she wanted to ask, but then the meeting grew serious again. That's a lot of names... It was almost overwhelming. Her little light pink nose twitched at the scents clinging to Berryshine and Cobwebfern's pelts, enjoying how it all smelled. It was a helpful distracted from all the names being listed off, or else she feared her head might spin.

It was then that she noticed the gentle touch of Berryshine's tail, and she looked up at the medicine cat with a grateful purr before looking back at the meeting. She shuffled a little closer to Berryshine, hoping she wouldn't mind. It was just a little.

It did make her think of her own apprenticeship...what would that be like? Her eyes glanced at Berryshine, but only for a heartbeat. Berryshine was currently mentoring Cobwebfern, so that path was unlikely to be open to her...even if it was something she wanted to ask them about. But surely, asking questions wasn't wrong right? She had so many! Her paws shuffled anxiously, feeling like she was going to burst trying to keep all of her questions contained and be respectful during the meeting. Not only did she know better, but she had spotted her mother around and didn't want to disappoint Swanberry by acting foolishly during a clan meeting. Nor Berryshine or Cobwebfern for that matter!

Rainpaw blinked as her name was called, confused. Another new mentor?! A frown spread on her maw, was it her? Was she just...not a good apprentice? She thought things had been going well with Foxleap, she had just said as much to Riftpaw and Brokenstream. And Floodsight was nearby too. But now...here she was starting fresh with a new new mentor. She exchanged a glance with her twin before rising to her paws, locating Sedgeflake and approaching the spotted tom. "I-I look forward to working with you." She meowed timidly, reaching up to touch noses with Sedgeflake in greeting.

As she returned to where she was sitting before, she tried to shake the feeling that something was wrong with her. Swanberry had a litter, that had nothing to do with her. This was just...coincidence. And yet...she felt thoroughly embarrassed. She sat next to Riftpaw, staring at her paws. She couldn't bare to look up to meet anycat's gaze right now.

[ @BEAR. - Sedgeflake]
[ @goodacacia - Floodsight]
[ @korok - Riftpaw and Brokenstream]

But Ravenpaw was having none of that mooping. She figured that Rainpaw would internalize it, that's what she did. Internalize everything. Good thing that Ravenpaw had just the thing for that though... She nudged Riftpaw with her shoulder and nodded towards Rainpaw, giving him a look to try and tell him "do something!"
