[Bouncepaw rolls a 4 and 5]

Bouncepaw can't find any other signs of prey. No rabbit, no voles, not even snake. No birds either; they're all too high up in the trees. Bouncepaw looks up, gauging his chances, than decides it'll be smarter for him to go hungry than to get hurt trying to catch a thin songbird.

Leaf-bare was coming soon. It was only natural that prey is starting to get scarce. Bouncepaw swallows, trying to ignore his worries, and continues searching. Hopefully the forest isn't completely empty.

[Bouncepaw rolls an 8, 6, 9, and 5]

It is completely empty, or so as far as Bouncepaw can see. A lot of time has passed, and he can't even see the rabbit they've caught a glimpse of at the beginning. It's Bouncepaw's first leaf-bare. Part of him wonders if this is his fault, the other part reassures himself that this is normal.

Bluestrike nodded at Bouncepaw. Tough luck. But that's okay, you've only just learned to hunt. He reassured his apprentice. Turning to Cottonpaw's to make sure both the apprentices could hear him, he said, Lets each try for one more piece of prey before we secure the borders. He announced, setting ahead. He opened his mouth, tasting the air. Smelling a rabbit, he charged forward, pressing himself to the ground.
[Bluestrike rolls an 18]
Bluestrike launched himself off the ground just a moment late. The rabbit bounced away, but he snagged it's pelt at the last second. Pulling it closer, he gave it a killing bite. He trotted back to the apprentices, grateful that StarClan had let him get a kill.

[Bouncepaw rolls a 9]

Bouncepaw ventures further from the rest of the cats, only staying within sight. He hopes he'll be able to find something if he goes deeper into the forest. It may just be his imagination, but he hears a small noise underneath some fallen leaves underneath a sycamore. He can't smell anything since the wind isn't strong, but he can imagine there might be a prey or two hiding there.

Better fail than never try. Bouncepaw stalks the leaves carefully, then pounces.

A failure. Bouncepaw comes up with nothing. As he sniffs the air, he can tell there likely wasn't anything to begin with. There is the scent of vole, but it's stale. Bouncepaw sighs as he continues back to Bluestrike. He didn't catch anything, but maybe he'll have better luck next time. He heads towards the other cats, hoping to congratulate them on their catches.

Cottonpaw gave a beaming grin to the other cats. Bouncepaw looked particularly disheartened. ”It’s okay Bouncepaw, w..we can share this mouse if you want?” A genuine heartfelt offer. Cottonpaw would make sure no cat went upset in his presence.

Bluestrike gave his apprentice a nudge. You'll get something next time! He exclaimed, doing his best to cheer up Bouncepaw. He herded the two apprentices back to the camp, with he and Cottonpaw holding their kill. He struck a glance at the empty pawed Bouncepaw, then turned his head to the successful Cottonpaw.
