Stifling a giggle at Slugpaw's faceplant, the small grey molly gave her apprentice a grin as they approached. So eager to learn! Well, she'd better help them along as best she could.
"Well um, reaching out for your target with your front paws to help keep you focused on your landing certainly helps," she started, dropping into her own hunting crouch once again to demonstrate. "You kinda wanna... Well, you want all of you to be in the air when you leap. Helps prevent tripping on your paws."
Mistheart gave one more example leap towards the leaf, launching off her back legs and making sure to land paw first onto the target.
"And always keep your eye on the prey! Helps to keep your um, your body going where it needs to."
Mistheart's immediate smile, consoled any hurt feelings in Slugpaw that might have remained after her failed jump. If Mistheart thinks I'm doing good then I must be on the right track! The young calico nodded as her mentor explained. So she needed to make sure all of her got into the air? That would be a bit tricky but she could totally pull it off! She watched the second demonstration, this time focusing on where Mistheart put her paws and how she got them into the air. The older molly looked to graceful! Slugpaw couldn't wait until she could do that!
She nodded at Mistheart's advice about keeping her eyes on her prey. It felt like there was a bunch of information bouncing around in her head! She tried to sort it all as she padded forward to trade places with Mistheart. She crouched down. Keep your paws stable and tail out. She bunched all her energy into her legs. Push off with your back paws. She sprung forward. Get everything into the air! Suddenly the ground was underneath her again. She had landed, a little shy of the leaf she had been aiming for, but on all four paws. I did it! "I did it! I did it! I did it!" She meowed in a sing song voice as she reset. "I forgot to keep my eye on the prey but I landed this time!" Her pelt puffed out in her excitement. She felt so good. So proud of what she'd done!
