Voices drifted in and out of Birdpaw's awareness, her limited attention flickering to and fro the various touches the other two provided. Rookfire laid down, nosing her cheek and beginning to clean her face, still salty and crusted with tears. Her face remained blank, even as fresh tears streamed down her cheeks at the tender touch. Just like Mama used to do when she was a kit and her coughing acted up.
The tears wouldn't stop, and soon enough shaking shoulders accompanied them. Birdpaw cried silently, curling further in on herself as Pondpaw and Rookfire showed her more affection and care than anyone had in her entire life. Distantly she knew she was lucky to have them, but the selfish part of her wondered where the hell they had been her whole life (RiverClan, lol). That same selfish part of her let her be doted over, the touch and comfort working to soothe the sharp pain in her heart to a dull ache.
[Thank you guys!! You don't have to reply, I think this is a good place to end it <3]
Quietpaw
Shadowclan apprentice
Purrks: Mind reader(permanently active) and Shadow fiend(inactive)
Wrapping herself into tighter ball with a plumed tail, Quietpaw subconsciously listened as the voice spoke again after mimicking her sighs. What they said made sense, more sense than most cats she spoke to. Unfortunate she'd only been approached at a time where her mind was clouded with all sorts of frenetic thoughts that had emerged in the wake of Lostspark's death..maybe she would be more inclined to pay attention. Even if this cat had no malicious intentions when she appeared, the fragile trust of others Quietpaw held was slowly breaking like an icy lake holding too much weight for far too long. She didn't want to plunge into the unforgiving freezing currents below.
However, there was something Quietpaw just couldn't place which seemed... sincere about this particular cat. Possibly because the words spoken held some kind of depth that was awefully uncommon- especially from strangers, not even her own family held so much weight in a few sentences......still, she had to be cautious, naivety would mean disaster. But..perhaps, what did she have to lose anyway? Surely this cat would be the one most affected if things went wrong.
Sharp, turquoise orbs snapped onto a sudden movement inclined towards her. Recoiling sightly, the dark splotched molly regards the single paw hovering a few inches away with a blend of wariness and unease. It took her a moment to finally decipher the gesture, but she understood. Averting her gaze as the other apprentice looms above her, she makes up her mind. A part of her wants to just hiss at them to go away and continue silently suffering, but the majority is pulling her towards them, telling her to get up and listen, that this is cowardice not maturity. Who is she to defy herself? If anything perhaps she should be pay more attention to what she wants instead of just going along with the flow of life. Hesitantly she pulled herself to her paws, making a half circle around that cat she could now identify more clearly: Hollowpaw. She'd seen them around camp but had never truly spoken..maybe it was better they weren't family. Meeting her blue and amber gaze with reserved emotion. She didn't know what came next, did Hollowpaw?
Cinderpaw

Cinderpaw doesn't like asking for help, but some days are better than others. Today was one of the days where she wished there was a reason she was in pain. It's illogical, feeling like her back leg is in throbbing pain when there's no back leg to be in pain.
She doesn't want to get up from her nest, fearing that she won't be able to walk without looking like her old injury was somehow fresh, despite that being obviously not true. But she can't wallow here much longer, breaths coming in short, pain-induced gasps, as Cinderpaw pushes to standing, swaying slightly and gritting her teeth at the fresh wave of agony that washed over her. She doesn't like asking for help... but despite him being the medicine apprentice, Rookfire is still her mentor, and he'd probably chide her for not asking his help in this matter, so... gingerly, Cinderpaw hops out of the apprentice's den and makes her way towards the medicine den, trying not to feel intimidated by past experienced (maybe they didn't happen in this den specifically, but they were still what she immediately thought of when looking at it).

Midnightpaw sat in their nest, their green eyes gazing around the den. They yawned feeling bored and tired. They hadn't had much training recently so they spent most of their time in the apprentice den or in the clearing, but in a way the apprentice didn't mind that much.
As Burnetpaw sat up, she irritably dug some of her claws into her nest.
Once again, she's woken up annoyed.
She doesn't know why.
Maybe a stupid dream or something.
once rookfire finished tearing feathers from flesh he padded into camp, dropping off the larks body at the prey pile before taking a careful glance around and walking over to the apprentices den in the most inconsticuous way he could manage. no way to get suspicious.. he was just carrying a mouthful of variously sized feathers into the apprentices den..nothing out of the ordinary.
the medicine cat poked his head into the den, cool grey eyes darting back and forth and giving the couple of cats that were currently in there and awake a stern look that practically screamed 'leave me be or you'll be the next gift' but a bit less rude perhaps..
he remembered the placement of birdpaws nest easily, having just recently sought her out in order to attempt to provide some comfort which had also been the experience that drove him towards going out of his way to prepare a gift. and perhaps because knowing mistlewhisker slept in her nest with the pelt he gifted her had been a huge plus towards his confidence in his place amongst the clan... but it was truly mostly comfort. honestly.
he was almost about to drop the feathers in her nest when he realised he had forgotten a very very important part of his gift. sneaking out of the apprentices den, into the medicine den and back into the apprentices den was more stressful than visiting darkwater mire but it was worth it as he dropped a bunch of soft brown lark feathers and two dark blueish black ones in the nest.
if cats could write, rookfires note wouldve spoken less words than this gesture alone was attempting to. lark feathers, soft and clean, spread around the apprentices nest in careful presentation, two rook feathers sticking out and starkly contrasting in colour at the side, it spoke of a promise, one to never allow birdpaw to be alone again. even in death, lostspark would be watching over her child, he knew, and he needed her to understand as well, and with the rook feathers, rookfire delivered his promise that would do everything in his power to take away the loneliness that had appeared to have eaten their family from the inside out. he didnt have anyone left, no mother, no father, no siblings, but that didnt mean he couldnt attempt to fill a role akin to that of a relative from the genuine goodness of his heart alone. and stars he couldnt care less about his biological parents and more about the shadowclan cats that had won his heart.
Blackberrypaw strolled into the apprentice den, tail swaying gently behind her as she padded up to an empty nest. She gave it a quick sniff, making sure no cat occupied the moss before plopping down with a small sigh.

Someone had disturbed her nest. Birdpaw rarely left the apprentice's den unless absolutely necessary, and while she had been out to eat--she wanted to ignore the sharp pangs in her belly but they became too strong and she had always been weak-willed--someone had come in and put something in her nest. It wasn't hard to figure out who--the faded tang of herbs lingered over her nest and the feathers inside. Birdpaw peered at them, her dull amber eyes straining to see their patterns and colors in the dark. A few were dark, while most were a light brown color. She sniffed them once, then recoiled.
Lark. Lark feathers.
Birdpaw stared at the feathers in shock. Someone had come in and left lark feathers in her nest. "It's a threat. They're coming for you too." A familiar, hissing voice echoed in her head. No... no that's not true! The apprentice began to shake, backing up and nearly tripping over a nest. "It's a taunt." "It's a nice gesture." "DANGER!"
Without thinking, Birdpaw lunged forward and pinned the feathers down, shredding them with wicked claws until the screaming voices in her head faded to a tolerable murmur. Panting, Birdpaw stood in her mussed up nest, tears building behind her eyes. "Mama..." She tried to say, but the word didn't come. It was just a strained squeak, accompanied by the patter of tears on moss. I'm so sorry, Mama... I ruined the pretty feathers... Birdpaw sniffed, carefully gathering her nest together again, the rook feathers having fallen to the wayside--spared from the fate the lark feathers encountered. Curling up in her nest, Birdpaw sniffled into the moss and shredded feathers.
