Moonstep
———————————————
Moonstep hadn’t actually expected Saltcloud to fill the silence up so quickly; feeling even a little caught off guard by this, to an extent. Perhaps he just didn’t know this feline as well as he thought he did. And, you know what? They’d say that’s a great thing - and for multiple reasons. With every second of this conversation, Moonstep was only growing more and more intrigued with his clanmate’s story.
“Well,” he begins, licking his paw and rubbing it across the grey-er half of his face. “I always see you zoning out, off on your own… As of recent, at least. I could have sworn I’ve seen you with another cat all the time, a while ago...” Moonstep trails off momentarily, thinking to himself about it. He shakes his head, continuing. “We’ve known each other for a while! Albeit, vaguely. I just thought it’d be neat to talk to you, y’know? Might as well be sure my clanmates are okay.”
Moonstep curls his tail around his own legs, staring back off again.
“We’re all together in this lockdown, anyway. No better time to chat.”
Saltcloud winced, his eyes squeezing shut for a moment as he braced himself for the overwhelming hurt that accompanied with the thought of Sorrel. Much to his surprise, it wasn't as bad as it had been. Maybe because it was harder to feel sorry about it when he was talking to someone.
"Yes," He murmured. "He... er.. left. So it's just me now, I guess." His ears twitched slightly and then raised his head to look at Moonstep. "Yeah, we were apprentices together, for a while at least, I think we stopped talking at all when you were made a warrior."
Saltcloud sighed, shuffling his feet a little. His back paws were beginning to hurt from sitting on them and he tried to adjust, splaying them out to the side more.

Moonstep’s ear perked up as they had observed Saltcloud’s rather poor reaction to the mention of this other feline. Ah… Maybe he shouldn’t bring that up again, for the time being. The tom sheepishly smiles.
“But hey! We’re both warriors now, right?” He tilts his head to the side, changing up the topic back to his other statement. “Why don’t we talk again? We have a whole lockdown to waste anyway.”
This damn lockdown… Moonstep was really wishing they could go out into the Shadowclan territory, right now. “Do you think we could ask for any updates on what’s gonna happen?”
mudslides reply to him attempting to assure her that the high rank and enforcer team were taking care of the issues theyve been having caught him off guard at first. 'nothing stays dead'?? what in stars name had mudslide seen in her life that would make her say something so...wrong. sure, cats could in rare cases call to their warrior ancestors to be given a second chance at life but that was nowhere near a reason to say nothing stayed dead.. "no idea what kinda experiences you've had but from what i know dead animals don' just raise ta' walk the earth again. 'specially not if theyve been eaten" rookfire replied with a small laugh, trying to imagine the mouse he had eaten earlier this day trying to claw its way back out of his stomach. or the badger he knew sleepysunrise had buried in the outskirts.. holdup that was actually kind of scary. trying to imagine mice and little critters coming back to life was amusing, considering the second death theyd have to suffer, but he would certainly not like to be faced with a used to be dead badger or something..
with a slight shake of his head, rookfire chased these thoughts away, focussing back on mudslide and trying to keep the conversation going. "sooo, d'ya still have family 'round? 've never seen ye with anyone besides roach" rookfire asked, entirely unaware that that was probably not something to just ask a cat he barely knew and also overlooking the way mudslide tensed. rook was a smart guy, he might even say so himself, but if he was in his head about something it was unlikely (to say the least) that he would notice any minor shifts in a cats mood. he was far better at spotting pain and picking up on the early wisps of sickly sweet illness than expressions anyway.

"There's blood in the water. The quiet are restless, the silent are still"
Mudslide wished that Rookfire were a dragonfly. Then he'd be easier to swat away and crush with her tail.
The cold had quickly become bitting, and Mudslide was beginning to weigh her chances in the warriors den. All that extra body heat was sure to make her warm... But first, she had to listen to the herbalists antics, because of course she did. Something about her upbringing, huh? Well, Mudslide sure hadn't been sucking on a silver spoon, that's for sure. But she wasn't about to talk about it. Why would she? Rookfire had asked her enough questions to last her brain a whole year. Gosh, what made this guy shut up?
So, she didn't reply to his comment. He didn't need to know what she'd seen, chances are he'd seen worse, but it was no contest. And more importantly, it wasn't his business. No doubt it would never get through his thick skull anyways. Plus, he thought it was funny.
Wrapping her thickening tail tight around her paws, the tall warrior let out a vigorous shiver that trembled from her ears down. Mudslide considered completely ignoring the family question. She should've said no. But saying that would've deprived Squeaks from her life, her entitlement to being remembered. Mudslide didn't want to take that away from her. "Yes." She whispered, before she lifted herself to her paws, and headed to the warriors den.
Any cons of snoozing with strangers were very light compared to being gutted out by Rookfire. So she'd made her choice.

Saltcloud nodded, feeling grateful for the topic change. It felt nice to talk to someone new, to get to know someone new. He had grown up with Moonstep and yet he barely knew anything about the tom. "Yeah, lets talk again."
He glanced at Moonstep and tilted his head to the side. "I'm not sure, I doubt anyone knows really, since we don't know if or when the attacks will stop. I hope its soon." Saltcloud found himself wishing it was over now, he felt as though it'd be really fun to go hunting with the black and grey tom.
the tabby apprentice's head spun as she dragged herself away from miss dawnstar's den. she was actually gone. miss lostspark was gone. it wasn't a dream. but he wished it was. cloverpaw dragged herself to a quiet and secluded corner of camp before settling down, her green eyes staring blankly into the distance. Miss lostspark was actually dead. Miss Dawnstar confirmed it, too. But how was she dead? The tabby wiped away the tears that welled in her eyes, her head spinning with thoughts.
