Starlingcall blinks a few times and lets out a breath of relief. The dizzy spell seems to have gone, leaving Starlingcall just a little light headed. It takes a deep breath as it's treated by Rookfire, withstanding the sting of burdock without so much as a flinch, although they have to focus to keep themself from it. It's been treated before, not specifically for so many rat bites, but bites overall. Besides them, Willowpaw flails and scrambles in fear and anxiety. She's going to ruin the work Rookfire put in to treat her wounds.
When Rookfire left after treating it, they go to stand to gather cobwebs, but stumble slightly. Stars, this is going to be annoying for a while, isn't it? Starlingcall sits back down and wraps their tail around their injured leg, watching for rats or snakes that dare come near the injured cats. They stay ready to pounce, leaning on their paws. That is, until Willowpaw begins to sob at it.
Starlingcall raises an eyebrow at Willowpaw. "Are you implying I was... friends. With a rat?" It snorts. Where in the world did Willowpaw get this idea stuck in their fluff-filled skull? "Maybe you should be demoted along with Pondpaw."

Kitty Soft Paws, Heightened Perception [smell]
[a small, fluffy tortoiseshell she-cat with pale green eyes and an atrociously fluffy tail, a small tick in her right ear, and a scar on her cheek]
The herbs stung, and Willowpaw flinched. A part of her expected that the moment the herbs touched her pelt the world would suddenly become sunshine and rainbows and senpai would notice her and Hey!! she wouldn't be useless anymore! Of course of course, that didn't happen. It only did a little hurt, and then the bigger hurt started to hurt a bit less. The apprentice nodded. Then a voice spoke, rather angry from the sound of it. Willowpaw was confused at first, why was Starlingcall mad at Rookfire? But then. Was it directed at her??? Oh god what did she do???? After a while of going Willowpaw came down to the heart breaking conclusion...... it was nearly too hard to think about. Willowpaw had murdered Starlingcalls favorite rat!!!!! The rat must've been on the good side (shadowclans side. willowpaw nearly screamed at herself out loud when her brain began wondering otherwise) and Willowpaw KILLED IT! The apprentice clutched the grass and ground beneath her paws. Only one of her legs obeyed, though. She only now fully grasped that she couldnt move her leg. The thought of Starlingcall quickly dispersed, but her mind was able to write down a mental note to apologize to the probably-grieving warrior. 'ohmy god its gonna be paralyzed for my entire life and i'm gonna be useless and exiled or its gonna get amputated and the wound is gonna get infected and i'll die of infection or i'll die in the outskirts because i was exiled and some loners gonna kill me and i'll never have been useful one single tim-......' Suddenly she could move her leg again. A leg cramp. Willowpaw had nearly "died" of panic....... over a leg cramp.
Her ears picked up Turtlepaw's voice. It was nice to know that at least somebody maybe somwhat possibly maybe not kinda not sure who knows cared about her. Willowpaw wasn't sure what she would do if the other apprentice went away, and at that very thought she saw the wound on Turto's ankle. Willowpaw was in the middle of an overly worried HOLY PLEASE DONT DIE ISTG gasp when Dawnstar called for them to look for cobwebs. Willowpaw hesitated. What if Turtlepaw wasn't alright? 'You wouldn't be able to do anything.' The apprentice debated at light (banana) speed (slow) whether to go get cobwebs or check if her friend was alright. Eventually, finding cobwebs won, but just barely, as she nearly changed her mind as she trotted away. Willowpaw had no idea that cobwebs were this hard to find. Either that or she was just blind. It took nearly 10 minutes of playing where's waldo to find a patch of the spider-woven, dewy webs. It was only two and a quarter of a quarter mice in size, but hopefully it would work for patching up at least a single wound. The tortie found her way back to Rookfire. Willowpaw was able to see Starlingcall among the cats gathered there, and after dropping off the herbs, Willowpaw trotted up to the warrior with a heavy expression, ready to launch into a poem that she'd been practicing the entire time she was collecting the cobwebs.
"I-I know how it feels like.
That horrible feeling of gri-grief.
Its feels like... getting stabbed by a..... claw shaped like a-a-a pike....
That rat was a-a heart thief..
Get over it at your own pace
No matter what they say... uh.... to your fa-face..
Because in the end you'll find inner pea-peace...
A-And the grief shall disappear like..... er... mice.. i mean geese"
Willowpaw sniffled. "I-I-I'm..... I-I'm so sorry. Y-Your fr-friend wa-was a good r-rat... be-best of wi-ishes to y-ou... your side-sidekic-..." Willowpaw's voice rose, and she cut herself off. Guilt bubbled like a storm throughout her entire body.
"P-Punish me if y-you wa-want.... i-i feel your grie-grief."What a horrible crime she committed..... but she had to stay strong. If not for herself, than for the sorrowful Starlingcall.
She had to help her fellow clanmate through these troubling, troubling times.
[ on todays episode on willowpaw being kinda dum ]
Turtlepaw hissed quietly as she heard what the feline implied towards her friend, she turned towards Rookfire. "Never mind me I'll get patched up back at camp," she meowed with a respectful dip then made her way in front of the weeping Willow ( see what I did there lol), "So instead of being polite and going about your day, you instead chastise and belittle an apprentice for what? I would have thought you were friends with that vermin as well on account of how pissy and mouse-brained your acting ." And Turtlepaw meant every menacing word, she hasn't said a thing to correct them about the harsh tone they spoke earlier, that was then and this is the now.
"Like seriously, did dignity and respect mean nothing to some of these clan cats, getting angry and upset at an apprentice that was doing her best on the battlefield? If that doesn't screech kit behavior than I don't know what does." Turtlepaw spoke with a huff as she turned to face her friend. "You don't need punishment for killing a rat we came out here to kill."

Hawkbite practically disappeared - he was envious. With enough practice, could he be like that? Silently traversing the forest? One could only hope. Thank the stars Sleepysunrise was there, someone he could follow. The patrol didn’t move slowly at all - in fact they ran. He found himself thankful to be on the smaller side, not dragged down by bulks of muscle. Sure, he couldn’t swat a rat to death with one blow, but this chase was a breeze - almost. He felt himself begin to tire, but Hawkbite soon raised his tail.
Report to Dawnstar… And take care of it. Would they be fighting? It seemed reasonable, three cats against a bird but, despite being shallow, his wounds were still bleeding - he wasn’t sure about the other two cats. Could he withstand another battle? If the moment called for it, he’d have to. It seemed Sleepysunrise had the same thought, or similar at least. But… What if there were more? “We don’t know how many there are, right?” He whispered. Well, They’d only seen one in The Dawning Woods, and surely if there were more, they would’ve appeared, no? Still, they couldn't be too careful.
Sleepysunrise
[ 13 moons | She / Her | Shc Enforcer | Shadow Fiend ]
As darkness hugged her pelt, it was a near miracle she was able to keep track of the enforcer that led the two, scentless and soundless as he was. But remaining a mere step behind allowed the petite molly to watch for his movents as much as the darkness allowed, following the sounds of flapping wings and screeching owls that filled the sky.
Her nose wiggled, vibrant eyes occasionally glancing up to observe the beast. She doubted many warriors could take one on alone… Judging by the size, however much she trained, the animal was big enough to pick her up and fly away as it was.
Never had she crossed the territory in such speed; if Sleepysunrise did not spent a diligent amount of time in training with such a short stature would she even have been able to keep up? The mere thought of falling behind was unacceptable.
Soon enough, however, the grounds grew familiar and with a silent glance around she realised where they had ended up. Mourning Ruins. And, much to the clan’s trouble, it seemed the owl had decided to make this its home.
Subtly going to react to Hawkbite’s words, Sleepysunrise paused mid-nod. She pondered; Hawkbite was one of the more skilled fighters of the clan, and with Newtbelly that made three felines of warrior rank, even if the latter was nothing more than a stranger and basic warrior.
“Now?”
A quiet whisper akin to those of her once kitsitter left her maw, eyes briefly flitting over to the commander; meaning, were they taking care of this issue now? There was little hesitance when it came to that prospect, though she wouldn’t act until he confirmed. Call her overzealous, but with three grown cats (or as grown as one could get), she saw little reason why they couldn’t take on one owl by themselves… Could it be much different than fighting that badger with Darkfall? She was unsure of how big a threat the owlkits posed. Then again, this was her first encounter with such a predator.
The Commander would shake his head, giving the youngest Enforcer a brief glance of amusement. She seemed eager, but unfortunately, they would not be taking on the owls right now. Hawkbite hadn't ever been trained in large bird combat so he couldn't say that was one of his strong suits. Perhaps another more seasoned warrior would show them both. "No. We'll return and report them back to Dawnstar. Newtbelly is right, we don't know how many there are, we can't risk that," he'd respond to both with a hushed tone.
It was a moment more of studying the location of the nest before he'd let out a silent hush. "Okay, we need to head back, stay close. We can't alert them," Hawkbite instructed, turning back and darting through the shadows, ensuring the other two stayed on his tail.
....
Another run across the territory and Hawkbite comes up to the massacre that occurred. His eyes grazed the clearing, filled of corpses and blood, the injured were getting treatment while some were already heading back. Hawkbite's heaving body exited the shadows, hunting down and approaching Dawnstar. "See if they need help or try to clean up some of this mess," he instructed Newtbelly and Sleepysunrise.
"Dawnstar, we found the owls. They're in the Mourning Ruins. Apparently, the noise from this fight attracted the big one, but it led us back to its nest," Hawkbite reported, finally catching his breath. The tabby let out another huff, his gaze examining the blood-stained leader before him. He'd glance around to search for Mistlewhisker, curious to see how she got out.

Hus gaze flickered to the apprentice who approached him. His intrigued gaze into whatever the younger had to say went to…shock? Dismay? If she needed him…something bad happened. He looked amongst the standing cats…she wasn’t there. His ears went down a bit…then he spotted her. He could hardly muster a thanks to the apprentice before darting over to the older warrior. “Ma- BristleThorn…” he gulped, staring at the only thing he could call a mother, his voice shaky. “Will you be okay?…” he mumbled in worry.
@Starphobia
She smiled, filled with relief as Spider’Thorn was quick to make it over to her. “Hey kiddo…I’ll be fine. Help me back to camp, would’ya?” she stated, her voice calmer than before. The bleeding was done…nothing to worry about, right? Her head throbbed and pounded, making it impossible to think of much anyway.
She grabbed another stiff form and chucked it at the pile with a wince. Her ears swerved towards Rookfire as the tom joined her in clean-up. Her tail twitched curiously, however, she left him be while finishing with the last of the bodies. She took a seat in one of the less bloody patches of grass and began working on cleaning off the blood crusting near her eye while Rookfire spoke about Pondpaw.
Demotion? In truth, though bleeding out, Dawnstar hadn't warranted Bristlethorn's wounds particularly deadly due to how coherent the warrior had been. A stern word to Pondpaw had seemed to be enough to her. However, Dawnstar wasn't a medicine cat so she had been judging the situation more superficially. If Rookfire thought Pondpaw's actions deserved a demotion for a few moons, she didn't see the need to fight him about it. Pondpaw had been in the wrong regardless. Perhaps some moons in demotion will teach her to listen and respect her clanmates and medicine cat.
"If you want to demote her, then demote her. I see no reason to waste my time dwelling on the matter when I have more important things to concern myself." Dawnstar grunted to Rookfire. She still had another fight to fight and would rather focus on using her time figuring out battle plans over deciding on a foolish apprentice's demotion.
Her ears prickled as she heard Willowpaw's sniffles, Starlingcall's response, and Turtlepaw's rant. Dawnstar sighed loudly. Willowpaw was almost ready for her warrior ceremony but from the sounds of it. Dawnstar was not certain she was fit for the rank of warrior. She's had a variety of warriors, anxious ones included, but she was seriously troubled by how stupid Willowpaw was. Did that mousebrain truly think Starlingcall was friends with a rat? She could understand why Starlingcall had brought up demotion.
Dawnstar's had some stupid warriors, but Willowpaw's level of stupidity was dangerous. She wasn't certain if she trusted that one among her warriors. Dawnstar would have to talk to Owlthroat before she settled on promoting the fluff-for-brains.
"Turtlepaw, you better mind your tongue with how you talk to my warriors." Dawnstar hissed warningly. "I've no problems tossing your ass back into the outskirts if you can't learn a bite your tongue and be respectful to those above you." If Dawnstar felt Starlingcall had been wrong she might have let Turtlepaw's sassy go unchecked. Yet, all they had said was demotion and from the sounds of it more out of concern than spite, and an apprentice thought she could get away with snapping at the warrior.
Hawkbite's arrival ended Turtlepaw's scolding early. She glanced at the tom and patrol mates as he walked over with the announcement of owls in Mourning Ruins. That saved her time from checking if those birds were still there.
"Interesting, I hadn't noticed one had come so close." They were lucky the owls hadn't gotten involved. Dawnstar's confidence in ShadowClan's ability to take on the large birds was low. She was tempted to question the tom further, but it was time to head back to camp and get everyone patched up.
"If you and Sleepysunrise aren't too injured, I need you to stay back and dispose of the bodies." Dawnstar waved her tail toward the rat and snake pile of bodies. "Get rid of the rats you can take what you can carry of the snakes back to camp, dispose of the rest." ShadowClan was doing pretty good on prey, but it never hurt to have some more.

Starlingcall's ears stand up straight and its eyes narrow. It looks down at Turtlepaw. Its green eyes glimmer beneath the shadows of the trees above them, making them look dead and lightless. They continue to stay silent, until Dawnstar speaks up to chastise the apprentice for them. It nods to the leader, and begins to walk after her as she leaves. As it passes Turtlepaw, it whispers under their breath, "Don't speak to me like that again."
With that, Starlingcall stalks away, meaning to listen to Hawkbite's report to Dawnstar concerning the owls. It shakes its head, wondering where Turtlepaw learned to speak to warriors like that. She's not going to survive in this clan if she doesn't learn when to shut her trap.
