He listens, even as his attention still half remains on Spiderthroat and his head is beginning to pound. Still, he has to work, and in order to do that he has to learn, so Mudhound's story does not fall on deaf ears. Broom and goldenrod... both chewed and applied like marigold. Broom a tall, sweet smelling plant with yellow flowers that droop... helps to heal broken bones and wounds faster, and goldenrod a tall plant with leaves that resemble grass and clusters of small yellow flowers... soothes sprains, numbs and heals wounds. That information is filed away for later as the tale continues to be woven.

The queen's trial isn't something Hollowpaw is convinced he would confidently pass. Only being given the advice to be perceptive? There's nothing to go off of there other than to really look. Maybe he might notice the one kit with white, maybe he wouldn't think it important to note. Sweetblossom, at least, notices, and the knowledge this probably fictitious cat receives is now for Hollowpaw to bear. Borage, a fuzzy little plant with blue flowers in the shape of stars, used to help nursing queens produce more milk, but it can also reduce fever and loosen tight chests and ease stomach aches.

She gasped, wide eyed. "You mean there is still room for another Medicine Cat" she breathed. 'So there is still a possibility...' All she needed was a plan. But none right now. She had a story to listen to.

Sweetblossom was awesome. She was the height of what Olivekit wanted. A commission from StarClan to serve her clanmates. She snuggled into Mudhound's belly fur. The tufts of brown seemed to swallow her small body up. She missed her mom and dad. She missed the familiar smells and sights of the clan she had grew up in. She just wanted to go home... Why couldn't she go... home... 'At least I have Mantiskit to snuggle with, and Mudhound to hear stories from. For now, that is all I need.'

Pinepaw listened as intently as his sick, muddled brain could. So he had mentioned burdock, something that helped rat bites. He noted that, before listening to the part about the sunset roses. Hm, he probably should know that. He perked his ears at the mention of the trial. "Does every medicine cat have to do that? Did you have to do that?" he asked, turning to Hollowpaw at the end. So Sweetblossom had learned goldenrod, bloom, and borage. He nodded the best he could with his injured neck, listening for the end of the story. He'd share what he knew.

The story continues, and Hollowpaw's ear twitches to listen as Mudhound speaks of the rat bite. It's important right now that he listens, considering this will be the herb he needs in order to take care of the currently injured. Burdock... a nettle like plant... chew the roots and spit the juice on the bites but be mindful of how numb it might make your tongue. Okay. So he needs some of that herb like... right now.

And then he describes another illness, one cured by sunset roses. Hollowpaw has never heard of it, and he doesn't really question the way Mudhound describes the knowledge passing along, it doesn't matter to him if it was ancient or recent.

He's considering who the hell he's supposed to ask to go collect burdock when everyone's sick when, luckily, Spiderthroat comes along and carries with him a new sick cat. Great. Another soul Hollowpaw can't. Help. But his decoy mentor could help.

"Great," he says, voice dripping in sarcasm, and then, "hey, d'you know what burdock looks like? We're gonna need some."

The calico gently began to shrug the knocked out Apprentice off of his back, looking around to spot any...somewhat decent clanmates. Two apprentices came into sight. "Oi. Uhh. Sunpaw and Pinepaw. Cmere and help Mallowpaw into our makeshift den lay her down and get her comfortable." he instructed.

Once the apprentice was handed off to the pair...as long as they listened, which if they were smart...they would. He turned towards Hollowpaw, a quirked brow. "Yep. I do. Cmon sickpaw lemme show you where it'd grow an what it looks like." he hummed, making his way back out towards the entrance of their little makeshift camp.

"Only that?" Goldenpaw's laugh is a weak croak, and he nudges his friend softly. "Not dreamin' big enough, buddy. Once you crawl outta this, y'r gonna be...s'gonna be like...like training. Yeah? Like you trained f'r death an' beat it. You're gonna be untouchable, an' you jus' wanna nap?? Snooore..."

Their dappled red-and-white head lolls, chin dropping to their paws with a weary groan. "Ough...I might needa nap too, though. But uh. After nappin', we're gonna find somethin' cool t'do, okay? Gonna get Stormpaw in on it, too. Gonna make this whole stupid sick-thing worth it, you watch."

Goldenpaw's voice peters out into a vacant murmur. She's too tired to really plan all that...but the idea glows there, a hopeful ember. In the meantime, a haggard rest shared between the two of them will have to do.

Pinepaw heard Mallowpaw arrive, and Spiderthroat asked him to make a nest for her. He dragged himself over to a small pile of moss, grabbed it in his jaws, and placed it down in the den. Making it into a nest, he rolled it and made it as soft as possible. Damn, they were running out of space in this den. Whatever. He tapped Mallowpaw on the shoulder and guided her to the nest he made.
