rookfire had been hovering in camp for a while now, unsure where their deputy had disappeared to after the medicine cat left camp to prepare for what he had planned and it was making him jumpy. it wasnt necesarrily like he absolutely did not want the larger dark furred cat to figure out it was him or anything, it was mostly that something about her possibly seeing him made him highly uncomfortable in every possible way. for stars sake he was a grown cat, had already served multiple moons as enforcer and just recently got promoted to medicine cat apprentice, there was hardly a reason for him to be acting like a kit with a crush, especially not when this was in a context that could hardly be more different to that.
well, it was easy really, he had been scolded in front of all high ranks and at least the first row of warriors and apprentices at the gathering shouldve heard as well and he was regretting it. it only felt right to attempt to pay it back to her with a gift since, against what you may assume, he was never at any point of this mad at mistlewhisker for choosing to correct him in front of everyone, more so grateful for it and keen on changing. now, with the pelt and feathers secure between his jaws, the former enforcer finally jumped over his metaphorical shadow and made his way into the den. if she were around, he could always abort his plans and pretend he had...forgotten..about moving to the medicine den moons ago...and never having had a real nest in the warriors den..
lucky for him, when he entered the den, halting briefly to let his eyes adjust to the dim lighting, it was mostly empty, with mistlewhisker no where in sight. as unconspicious as possible, rookfire shuffled over to what he knew to be her nest before placing the pelt and feathers slap bang in the center of it. dark feathers set to rest atop the inside of the rabbit pelt, he gave it another glance, overthinking his choice one last time, before turning to disappear into the clearing once more.

Mistlewhisker shouldered into the warrior's den, the chill of leaf-fall having gripped her thin greenleaf pelt with wicked claws. Soon enough she'd get her leafbare pelt, but for now she would just be chilly. Her nest immediately struck her as different, and she approached with caution. Cats liked leaving her gifts, but she was also aware that she could swiftly make enemies of those she demoted or scolded for failing patrols or the like.
But it seemed the gifts were nothing more than that: gifts. Mistlewhisker peered at the rabbit pelt, barely making out the vitiligo spots in the dim light. How fascinating. The work was clean, which the Deputy could appreciate. It contrasted nicely against the ruddy fur of the fox she had killed many, many moons ago. Back before she was an Enforcer, before she knew the elites well, before she had proven herself as worthy of the Deputy position. The feathers were shuffled to the side so they wouldn't be broken immediately, their dark shine familiar as rook feathers. The Deputy smirked, glancing outside the den as though she might see her gifter outside. Well, it seemed her scolding of him had earned her an apology gift. At least he wasn't sulking.
Well, she would accept the gifts. Settling down in her nest, now bolstered with another pelt, Mistlewhisker set her chin on the edge and closed her eye, quickly falling into a light slumber until she was needed next.
