[ this post takes place after the events of the battle with the rats, snakes, and owls. ]

Pondpaw frowned at the word fruit. Tipping her head to the side thoughtfully, the apprentice´s river-blue eyes clouded with confusion.

´´Fr...uit?´´ The she-cat mewed, wrapping her tail neatly around her paws as she bent her head to take another bite of her blackbird. ´´What´s a fruit?´´

Hawkpaw quickly straightened herself when both Sleepysunrise and Rookfire approached, ears perking up. She stayed silent for most of Duskpaw and Sleepysunrise's ramble, and gave Rookfire a silent nod. Great. Now Duskpaw Hawkpaw's gotten the former Enforcer and the Medicine Cat Apprentice involved in this mess. It was only going to get worse.

The tortoiseshell she-cat noticed Starlingcall heading towards her from her peripheral vision, but did not move. Stiffening up when the warrior pressed themselves to their side, Hawkpaw forced her confident exterior back out.

"Yeah! Y-eah. I'm- fine." She mumbled, louder than she'd intended to, voice shaking slightly. She grinned, letting out a breathy laugh. "No need to worry! Just sibling quarrel, you know?" She glances to her side at Starlingcall.

Pondpaw blinked warmly at her denmate, taking another bite of her prey. ´´Warrior? Yeah,´´ The former RiverClanner purred, swallowing. ´´Mistlewhisker - our Deputy - and Tuftedtusk - an Enforcer, as well as my mentor - both passed me on my assessment, so it should be at the next meeting Dawnstar calls.´´

Once finished with her blackbird, Pondpaw began to stack the prey pile again neatly when Grapepaw had scattered it.

rookfire had decided to let sleepysunrise handle most of this and hold back after the one sentence he said following the conversation with rising confusion, especially at the bit that finally explained why duskpaw was whining about lostsparks death. apperantly she was her aunt which made sense he could suppose but not considering he had never ever seen them together or had heard lostspark mention the apprentice...additionally, 'she was my aunt just as much as she was your mother' sounded like a bunch of ratdung. even as someone with no biological or adoptive family rookfire understood you could be close with your aunt while still not having the bond a child has to their mother, besides the fact that sleepy or lostspark had never mentioned duskpaw at all anyway, which made dark whisker brows draw together in confusion.

for once, rook agreed with duskpaw, not on anything that may make the apprentice stand in a better light to him but on the 'ive been here. just lurking. watching' front given the fact that he had not seen duskpaw at any of his training events, or at hawkbites or anyones elses in the past 6 moons. with the rules now, they couldnt go out to train without him finding out somewhen either so lurking was probably the most accurate description. heavy doubt on the 'i grew the hell up' part given she was causing another scene just a quarter moon after he found her screaming and crying but hell what did he know at this point.

finally, the apprentice addressed him and his admittedly snarky line, however, honestly he was sick of the apprentice doing nothing but cause trouble and his sharp words werent for no reason for once. a eyeroll passed over his otherwise neutral expression at her reasoning and the following 'attack' of his own past. honestly he was considering letting the laugh swirling in his chest out yet chose not to. it was very funny she was asking him if he had ever been left alone when he needed someone given his past with riverclan that just so happened to be very much public knowledge.

"ight lass lemme tell ya what; perhaps this is news ta ya, duskpaw, since youve done nothin' but lurk for moons but i'll have ya know that i left riverclan cuz there was no one, i don' have a mother or father, them n my sister are dead n lostsparks death affected me probably just as much as it did you, yet ya dont see me pickin' fights for no reason because ive had ta' fight for everythin i have." he began without any shift in his tone or outwards behaviour whilst his insides squirmed and twitched at the mention of his parents, the mother he couldnt chase from his mind even after moons, the father he wanted pass when he was barely old enough to eat solid prey, the sister he couldnt even remember the fur colour of, none of this was something he usually shared openly and freely, not that it was ever relevant.
"i dont have the birthright ta' be here n that wont ever change but stars above, if anythin, im the livin breathin proof ya can hit absolute rock bottom, alone n threatened with death by everyone around n come outta the situation a respected high rank. there is no excuse for you ta be almost as old as sleepysunrise n have no training."
