Miss Grandmama was upset. Sleepysunrise always had had a certain sense for when her grandmother was not happy, something that did not extend to a majority of the clan. It could simply be that the Queen of Shadows was particularly expressive, or perhaps it was the amount of the the Shadow Princess spent watching her grandmother - and mama, too; their mannerism and tactics; their way of handling whatever came, and addressing those around her. The way they, somehow, always knew how to lead those who looked up to them and those who didn't. Her roles models, one now dead and the other disgruntled. The pang in her chest hurt more than she could admit, and Sleepysunrise could truly only do what she had always done. Cast the pain aside, ignore it, focus on her duties. Do not get distracted, step up - step up she did, volunteer to work - volunteer she did, and most of all, do not fail. She knew Miss Grandmama could certainly tell her willingness and need to help through the silent stare that settled upon the leader, moving closer to the leader through the crowd. Miss Grandmama knew she could climb, too, so the use of excess words was unnecessary.

The cat padded up, her tail flicking anxiously. The cat knew she needed to get herself together, and start living up to the shadowclan stereotype. She needed to be scary and super duper fierce!! But since when had that mindset worked? The cat just kept on failing and failing, no matter how hard she tried. She sighed. It felt like she was shoving away self-doubt 24/7 nowadays.

So, with that in mind, what use would she be fighting owls and snakes? The cat's mind guided her back to her last fight, where she'd been oh so empathetic to an enemy apprentice. But she hadn't been able to bring herself to hurting Rootpaw that much back then. She felt that was a sign of weakness, but at the same time, the cat was deeply relieved.

Shaking herself, the cat put on a fierce face, which looked like a frog trying to look intimidating. If she failed, she'd just pick herself back up and face her problem again. The cat's muscles brimmed with contained energy.


Willowpaw wouldn't screw this up. Maybe...

Grandmother's voice rang across camp, and for the first time in nearly half a moon, Birdpaw stirred from her catatonic state in the apprentice's den. She didn't know why--but something about the distant words that filtered through the hollow stump pulled at her fur, tugging her up, over the lip of the den and into the clearing. The bright sunlight was painful against her sensitive eyes, but she squinted past it and towards the gathering cats. Past Birdpaw would have leapt at a chance to help, but now she couldn't be bothered to open her mouth to speak. It was too difficult. But if Grandmother put her on a patrol, she would do her duty. Deep inside past the depression of losing her mother (and the rest of her family, according to how that meeting went) and having her entire world shattered, Birdpaw knew that if she didn't do something soon, she would be labeled as worthless and cast aside again. Maybe the snakes and rats would take her out and free everyone from her existence, including herself. Or maybe she would find the passion for living again. Who knew?

Birdpaw saw Quietpaw and Sleepysunrise already gathered, but didn't want to approach either of them. Her past affection for her siblings was nothing more than dust on the wind, now. She remained by the apprentice's den, awaiting orders.

She perked up, I trudged by the leaders call. The she would be honored to join one of the patrols, and ambush felt like her thing. She padded up quickly, holding her head high and she joined the cats that seemed to be gathering for the ambush patrol.



SPIDERTHORN

The young warrior perked his ears. He was young but…it was up his job right? To protect the clan and all? He probably should go and fight at least, yeah? The younger padded up to the gathering cats, eyes lighting up as he spotted BristleThorn. He went and sat beside her, leaning into her a bit because…honestly? Any cat with long fur was now his best friend. He didn’t want to freeze his ass off.

Mistlewhisker had watched Dawnstar bring her kits back to the den, chuckling to herself before moving off to the warrior's den to see if the new warriors were settling in. But her activity was cut short when Dawnstar stormed back into camp, booming voice summoning the clan once more. This time, for a more immediate threat. The Deputy listened intently, mind whirling as she put together possible patrols and strategies to deal with the threat. Dawnstar's strategy lined up with her own, and Mistlewhisker scanned the gathered group, picking up pieces of conversation and offers to join certain patrols. Good, it seemed cats were enthusiastic about participating. Mistlewhisker herself would stick with the large ambush group--she couldn't climb trees, and her sheer strength would be better suited for ambushing large amounts of predators rather than destroying nests.
