Re: Aspenpaw's Training [P]
Floodsight
✦ RiverClan | 22 moons | Mind Reader ; Beefed Up T3 ; empty slot
This one was full of surprises. One moment, he'd been confident and the next, it was a mouth full of water. She'd almost launched herself to grab the little one by the scuff, and definitely will so, if that happened again. "Keep her head up high, out of the water."
She did as she explained before lifting her paws off the riverbed slightly before falling back down. The silver she-cat gracefully floated in the water in a bobbing motion. Once in a while, she'd kicked her paws off the river's floor. "As long as you can touch the river's floor, you'll be able to kick yourself upwards. This helps you float for a seconds..."
Floodsight moved further into the lesson, demonstrating a paddling motion with her paws. "And if you rotate your legs and paws in a circular motion by pushing down on the water, it helps you stay upwards without kicking the riverbed."
"Swimming can be tiring, so let me know if you're ever feeling tired." She reminded, before giving him the time and space to try floating once more.

Slowly, and a tad bit reluctantly, aspenpaw lifted his paws off the river bank once again. This time trying to focus mainly on keeping his head high above water. However when the water neared his neck he began to feel panic again. What if he slipped! What if drowned!? He gast his mentor a series of frantic glances as he attempted to mimic what she was doing exactly the same. Kicking up of the river bed a few times he began to get the idea of it. An' just as he was getting used to floating, Floodsight decided to move on to something else. Usually aspenpaw preferred moving on once he got the basics down but he felt a bit more nervous with swimming. Which was dumb ofcourse becuase he was riverclan and this was were he belonged.
"circle- motion. Got it" he choked out, how was his mentor able to talk and swim at the same time and look so graceful and relaxed!! He felt like a fish on dry land, he was quite opposite of graceful as he floundered around in the water trying to "swim". Attempting the the rotating paws thing his mentor had said, Aspenpaw began to paddle around. He was doing it! Or was he just sinking in style. He felt like every awful paddle forward, his right shoulder would sink further into the water. His left shoulder followed but not as quickly. He felt lopsided, of Centered, like he was swimming on his side. He was doing it right though because he was drowning! "like this!?" he shouted as droplets of water sprayed everywhere as he paddled around in oddly shaped circle. No one's perfect

Re: Aspenpaw's Training [P]
Floodsight
✦ RiverClan | 22 moons | Mind Reader ; Beefed Up T3 ; empty slot
She watched him flail about, dunking in and out of the water. Unbeknownst to her, his previous attitude was for all for show. He...didn't know how to swim? Floodsight had just anticipated this to be a a quick summary and practice session. Maybe even move onto more advance swimming. It turns out, this little one had no clue what he was doing at all?
[ pp perms granted to fish him out ]
Floodsight stopped the apprentice, picked him up by the scuff and out of the water before he tires himself out from his cycle of drowning.
She waded towards the riverbank, dropping him gently onto the sandy riverbank, with a stern expression on her face. Her long coat sticked onto her gentle frame as she slinked out of the water before turning sharply back to Aspenpaw. She didn't know how to feel. Was it so necessary to lie about something like that? Floodsight couldn't understand the need to lie about not learning something yet. To her of all things? Okay, maybe it was understandable if it was towards his friends, but to her? She was his mentor and she's supposed to help teach anything he didn't know. Did the apprentice not feel comfortable with sharing basic information with her? The silver molly's eyes burned with confusion and a hint of sadness, "Aspenpaw, I thought you said you knew how to swim."
"I can't have you lying to me about things like this. I need to know how you are doing, honestly, beforehand. It's okay not to know how to swim. We aren't born with the ability to swim like we've got moons of training under our paws. That's why we have mentors. That is what I am here to do, to teach you things you've yet to learn." Her expression furrowed as she watched the wet bundle she'd just fished out. Floodsight huffed a small sigh, half from relief he didn't drown the other half from her whole spiel of words.
Her dim blue eyes softened before giving talking another go, "Would you like to start from the beginning this time? Or shall we call it a day, since what we just did might be tiring?"

Aspenpaw had just swallowed a mouthful of river water when he felt himself suddenly being yanked away from the direction he was attempting to swim in. He hacked out the unwanted water as he was dragged towards the bank by his mentor. As soon as his paws landed on solid ground, he walked himself the rest of the way out onto the bank. Stopping briefly to shake out his fur, carelessly spraying droplets in every direction. His usual spiky fur now wet, stuck to his side's making him look smaller then he'd have liked to look. He gave his neck fur a few quick licks in attempt to dry it before turning to smile at his mentor. The pride of actually swimming burning within him but that flame quickly died at Floodsights expression. That was not a proud mentor face if he'd ever seen one. "What-?" he began to ask though it was cut off as Floodsight immediately began to reprimand him. Aspenpaw's smile turned to a frown, he didn't appreciate this scolding he didn't deserve? "what's wrong with a little lie? Never killed nobody plus I think I was swimming quite fine for my first try!" he huffed defensively.
What's was Floodsight's problem, not being able to swim in riverclan was a big deal! A really big one! It was embarrassing and he would rather keep his pride entact and not squashed under paw. "it is a big deal, swimming is riverclans thing. It's in your blood! I'm not riverclan- I am now but I wasn't. So of course I can't swim"
Scratching behind his head for no reason other than to prevent himself from sitting still, Aspenpaw snorted at the suggestion. "I don't want to be taught how to swim like a kit. I can do it myself. Teach me the apprentice stuff" so what if he could swim "prettily" or "majestically" he was moving through water without immediately drowning. That counted for something.

"No, a little lie can definitely kill someone," Floodsight flatly responded. She didn't want to argue, but Aspenpaw needed to understand. She didn't want this little lie to kill this ball of sunshine. To be honest, she liked him and would rather much preferred he made it to adulthood. "What if I decided to trust that you can swim and not do any training? What if you drown when it really came time to swim?"
"Have you thought of that?" Her voice carried a louder tone than usual carrying with a tinged of anxiety. "Since you understand swimming is a big deal in RiverClan, that is even more reason to not lie about it."
"There's is more to RiverClan than just swimming. Swimming is a learned skill. For one, I definitely wasn't born with the ability to swim." Floodsight explained, her voice strained. It was true, if RiverClan cats was born with that ability, Sunkit would still be here. Her and Brokenstream didn't have to spend all those days training to swim. For the heck of it, she'd been afraid of the water for a good portion of her life. Hearing the little one contradict himself left Floodsight in dismay. "You know you can't swim and you also know swimming is important. Then, what good comes out from your lie?"
"I'll teach you apprentice things once you start acting like one. Currently, you're like a kit throwing a tantrum." Floodsight pointed out the obvious, if this kept going she'll have to bring them straight home.

Aspenpaw's ears flattened against his head as Floodsight continued too scold him. He wasn't a kit, he'd didn't want to be scolded! Sure what she said made sense okay but he didn't have to admit that! Not in a million moons! Clearly she didn't understand that not knowing how to swim at his age was embarrassing and her wasn't going to spell it out for her. He drew back his lips in the beginning of a snarl but immediately stopped himself. He wasn't throwing a tantrum! She was- "I'm not going back to camp!" she'd have to drag him there herself. "And I'm not throwing a tantrum! I don't need to learn how to float because I can float already it's just the moving around part that I don't understand. Your making a fuss out of something that I don't think matters. Just teach me and get over it, stars!" he hissed out, his tail lashing behind him. Okay so maybe he hadn't intended to come off as that disrespectful but he was upset, annoyed. Why couldn't he have just gotten the skill first time like how he had caught that seagull first try.
Not bothering to here whatever else his mentor was going to spout at him he marched back towards the river bank and waded right on back in. He would try to swim again himself, he didn't need someone to baby him over something that's supposed to be easy. Atleast for riverclan. He was riverclan now so that meant it should be easy for him and he would make it that way. Without help because he didn't need it!
Not even casting a second glance back at his mentor, he waded further into the river until his paws barely touched the sand. Raising them he began his ungraceful paddle in attempt to figure out this whole swimming thing. Sure he was floating but he was going absolutely no where and that frustrated him. How did you move?? How. He dug his paws through the water, splashing as he swam in a, once again, odd shaped circle. Slowly but evidently sinking.

Had teaching someone always been this hard? Surely not. She didn't even get to finish hearing Aspenpaw's full spiel before he raced out into the stream. What is this kid even doing? Know how to float? It looked like he just barely learned that today and now he's racing off to swim. She narrowed her blue eyes, ones that turned icy blue with disappointment. "Aspenpaw, just because it's something you don't think that matters, doesn't mean others can't find the importance in it. I don't need you drowning trying to learn something before you are ready."
The silver-cream she-cat shook her head, the kid wasn't going to learn anything with anger covering his judgement. Floodsight ran after her apprentice who just jumped into the water, and started paddling randomly, not going anywhere but down. Her heart jumped a little when his head was going under.
Yank!
Once again. The second today, the silver warrior had to pull him out from nearly inhaling a painful amount of water. Floodsight yelled with a tint of worry spilling out between the gaps of her teeth and the little one's scruff. "Aspenpaw!"
She settled him back down on the riverbank once more before checking if the little one was alright. When she believes he was indeed alright, she calmed down a little. Floodsight wasn't about to to repeat the conversation they just had, so the only logical solution she had at the moment was to go home. After a deep breath herself, Floodsight recomposed herself and spoke sternly, "That's it, we're going home for today. I can't teach you if you keep rushing into things."
"Take your time to recover, and we are heading back. Either you walk, or I can carry you home." Oh stars, what can she do? Should she talk to someone about this? It wasn't like she had a lot of cats to talk to. All her friends are busy with their new apprentices, her mentor was no where to be seen and Stormstar...was that even the right choice? Not that she didn't trust her leader to give her the right solution. It was just that...she doesn't trust that she had the abilities to keep Aspenpaw as her apprentice.
[ @ burntToast | i think we can go for a few options. 1.aspenpaw figures it out himself. 2.floodsight figures out how to deal with aspenpaw (of which, i can't think of any solutions atm. open for suggestions). 3. floods go to Stormstar and let fate choose through roleplay :")
either way, i think it's time to give them a break before starting training again. just to get their issues solved ]

So maybe he couldn't swim, so what! Atleast he was trying- once again Floodsight saved dragged him away from the water and placed him back on solid land. He cough up what water he had swallowed as well as shook the water out of his fur. Aspenpaw merely twitched his ear waiting for another round of scolding which he'd obviously ignore but instead he got something else. Something he should have known would be coming. "What!?! But we haven't- I haven't even done anything yet!!" he protested as Floodsight told him they'd be heading back to camp. Was this because of the way he was acting, is it because she was angry. It must be! This was a punishment!! He knew protesting more would result in worst punishments, he thought back to what happened with Mander and Primrosepaw. He pinned his ears back against his head, tail lashing with irritation and frustration. "Fine whatever! I don't want to train with you anyway!" he spat.
"I'll figure it out on my own! I don't need your help and don't need to be walked back to camp either!" he yelled back as he began his very angry walk back to camp where he'd ofcourse go sulk in the deep dark depths of the apprentice den and probably complain to anyone who had ears and would listen. He knew the way back to camp and it wasn't far. So he didn't even bother waiting and left on his own. Why did floodsight have to make such a fuss about something like lying? It wasn't a big deal she could have just left it and taught how to swim without annoying like that. Maybe learning to swim with others was cursed, last time he tried to learn was with a lionheart and that hadn't ended well either. Either way he didn't feel like talking with Floodsight any time soon.
( Floodsight; @goodacacia ) {And there he goes, the tantrum throwing 9 moon old /j sorry this post was short it was written by a very tired toast /w\ Aspen might just go with option 1 in this case but since flood is your character I let you decide what you think would be most ic for her to do regarding this. Though I love flood mentor if she has to talk to storm about this then that's ok to ;w;}

How words cut like a knife. Floodsight was left visibly stunned by her apprentice's word as he ran off towards the direction of camp. Following close behind, the silverish cream she-cat just wanted to make sure he'll be alright. She'd done most of his territory tour, so he should be alright...right? She shook her head and continue following the little one home.
Floodsight had only one thing on her mind the entire time back. He doesn't want to train with me... How could she change that? How could she make Aspenpaw understand? She doesn't know...she really doesn't.
She watched her apprentice race into their den before she proceeded her separate way with anger and confusion boiling, only for it to simmer from exhaustion. Not from teaching, swimming or running, but from the extensive amount of words that came out her mouth. Only the stars knew how many words she spoke today. More than usual, that's for sure.
