Burning in the Shade (Training)
[Shadeclaw]
Warrior|14 moons|Thunderclan
· · ─────── ·· ─────── · ·
His first apprentice. Shadeclaw couldn't believe it. One of the little futures of Thunderclan, entrusted by the clan leader... to him? The responsibilty felt heavy on his shoulders, but in a good way.
Shadeclaw walks to the apprentice den and takes in a deep breath. Was he supposed to call out to Burningpaw now? What should he do? He hesitates, and for a minute or so there is a large, grizzled warrior stiffly standing by the entrance of the den, frowning deeply. It takes a while for him to nuster up the courage to enter and call out Burningpaw's name.
"Burningpaw, get up. We're starting your training." Now that was more brief and not as friendly as he thought it would sound. Shadeclaw pokes his apprentice softly and waits for his reply.

Re: Burning in the Shade (Training)
Burningpaw
He/They || Thunderclan Apprentice || 6 Moons || No Purrks
A cream pelt rose and fell as the apprentice slept. Sunlight flooded into the den, and he grumbled, trying to bury his face in his fluffy tail. He felt he was being poked and they opened one eye, seeing who he would be biting, because he was sleeping, what could they need fro- Oh. His mentor. We're they training? Awesome! Burningpaw pulled himself to his paws, and stretched with a yawn. He shook the moss out of his fur, and grinned. He was still groggy, but they finally got to train! "Training? Awesome! What're we starting with?" He asked, pulling himself out of the den. The sun (which was hardly up. Burningpaw hoped they would not be training this early everytime) lit up the orange on his pelt. He grinned widely at his mentor, waiting for a response. The tom looked...uhm..like not the friendliest cat. He wasn't scary per se, just intimidating. Burningpaw stopped grinning, his expression very clearly trying to read his mentor. He whisked his tail and smiled again.

Re: Burning in the Shade (Training)

(Nevermind, I got permission just now, lmao. Edited!)
Was it too early? Did he make a mistake? Shadeclaw stiffens shyly, making a mental note to come to his apprentice later in the morning. On his part, he was just excited and nervous about teaching another cat for the first time that he didn't notice it was so early.
He doesn't reply for a while, walking out of the apprentice dens and waiting for Burningpaw to follow him before he speaks.
What was he going to teach? Well, he was going to give Burningpaw a tour of Thunderclan territory, and then maybe they'll go for a short hunt afterwards. It was what he himself did on his first lesson, after all. It took some time, but he'd asked the hornets and obtained permission to go outside camp during the lockdown, along with some advice to heed caution, of course. According to Mudhound, the predators were mostly dealt with. Shadeclaw hoped so, if not, on first sign of trouble, he planned to make a run for it with his apprentice.
But first, before he started, he wanted to make sure Burningpaw already knew the basics of being an apprentice or warrior. He wanted to make sure he knew the Code so that he wouldn't get into trouble. Which, Shadeclaw remembers, in his time, lots got into trouble. Oh, right, Burningpaw must be still waiting for an answer to his question. He had been quiet for too long.
Shadeclaw sits down, pauses, and meows slowly, "Your territory tour. But before we go, do you know the Warrior Code?"

Re: Burning in the Shade (Training)
Burningpaw
He/They || Thunderclan Apprentice || 6 Moons || No Purrks
Burningpaw sat, ears twitching. Did he know the warrior code? That was a great question. He thought. "Er..I know bits and pieces of it? Like, "Do not harm a kit, no matter the clan" or something like that, and always thank Starclan for your prey..something about leaders word being law, I think. And always stay loyal to your clan, like no relationships with a cat from another clan or something along those lines." Burningpaw didn't get that last one. Like obviously, your clan way important, and you need to be loyal,
which he was, he was loyal as hell. But..like, they love who they love, right? Not the point, Burningpaw. Focus. Burningpaw pushed the thought away and looked up to his mentor. Gosh, he was an intimidating fella. He sounds nice..enough.
Burningpaw's tail pattered against the soft ground, making a soft thump every time it hit the dirt. At least they could leave camp, Burningpaw hated staying in all the time. He scanned the clearing, watching cats wake up and stroll around. He turned his attention back forward.

Shadeclaw nods. It looked like his apprentice knew what the Warrior code was about, though he didn't know it completely, or in full detail. He was satisfied with that, but recites the code to him anyway.
Shadeclaw meows, "This is the Warrior Code.
One, defend your Clan and remain loyal.
Two, do not hunt or trespass in another Clan's territory.
Three, elders and kits must be fed first. Apprentices and warriors eat last.
Four, prey is killed only to be used and eaten. Thank Starclan for its life.
Five, a kit must be at least five moons to become an apprentice.
Six, newly appointed warriors must keep a silent vigil for one night.
Seven, a cat cannot be deputy without having mentored at least one apprentice.
Eight, the deputy becomes leader when the current leader dies or retires.
Nine, after death or retirement of a deputy, the next deputy must be chosen before moonhigh.
Ten, A gathering of all four Clans is held at the full moon. There is a truce during this time. No fighting allowed.
Eleven, borders must be defended and checked often.
Twelve, kits should be protected, no matter what the Clan.
Thirteen, the word of the leader is the Warrior Code.
Fourteen, do not kill other cats to win battles, unless the cat is outside the Code or it is for self-defense.
Fifteen, reject the soft life of a kittypet."
This is the most words that Shadeclaw has ever spoken since seeing Burningpaw, and it's a lot of rules. All important rules. He glances over at his apprentice to see if he has any questions, or if there's something he has difficulty memorizing. Yes, Shadeclaw fully expected Burningpaw to start memorizing the Code, or at least attempt to do so. If it's too hard to do on one try, he'll repeat the rules until Burningpaw can recite them in his sleep.

Burningpaw blinked. Damn, that was a lot. He recounted the rules in his head. He huffed. He wasn't going to memorizing to do for rules. Important rules,
obviously, but a lot. Burningpaw didn't have great memory, but they seemed easy ish to remember. He also didn't want to hear Shadeclaw repeat those rules repeatedly.
It was bound to get annoying. Like really annoying.

Was he being too strict? Shadeclaw's expression softens as he sees Burningpaw huffing in annoyance. But it couldn't be helped. Every cat needed to know the Code. They were going to be on to more exciting things soon, so he hoped that would more than make up for it.
Shadeclaw pads forward, beckoning his apprentice with a paw as he exits the camp. His expression is cool, but he's careful to make sure Burningpaw doesn't wander too far from him.
"Willow's Rise," He meows as they pass by the large weeping willow. There's a bunch of claw marks on the trunk of the tree. "Thunderclan's gravesite and memorial." He looks at his apprentice to see if he has any questions, and also to see his mood.

The apprentice eyed his mentor with bi-colored eyes, tail flicking. Burningpaw's expression immediately lit up when his mentor beckoned him to leave the camp. H
They bounded after him.
After walking for a few minutes they reached a large willow. It was super pretty honestly. He turned as his mentor opened his mouth. A gravesite? Oh. The young tom nodded. Okay, so Willow's Rise is a large willow tree with clawmarks. It's his clans gravesite and memorial place. Seemed easy enough to not forget. Burningpaw

Re: Burning in the Shade (Training)
Shadeclaw sees his apprentice nod, and heads off to the next location. It's a creek, with the trickling sound of water and minnows darting around. The air is cool and refreshing. Since it's leaf fall, it's quieter here than usual.
"Sunkissed Creek." Shadeclaw meows, "Be careful of predators. Snakes. Otters."
They only pass by. He didn't want his apprentice getting hurt or getting into trouble.
And next was... "Cattail Pond." A pond surrounded by cattails, and a very useful spot for swimming practice. Sadly, Shadeclaw wasn't a very good swimmer, but maybe Burningpaw would have more luck. "We fought Riverclan for this territory. It has lots of resources."
"Any questions?"
