It never ended, did it? Mistlewhisker was finally able to snag a frog from the prey pile and dig in, the Deputy having a rare moment of relaxation before her next dive into work. But then a voice piped up behind her and it was all Mistlewhisker could do to not jump out of her fur and slit the throat of the apprentice behind her. Instead she merely tensed, ears swiveling back to better hear bite and their request for another session of training. Which bite didn't seem to need--it was ready for its assessment. Mistlewhisker made a mental note to get on that. But now teeth was requesting flaying. Well, she wouldn't deny teeth. Mistlewhisker pushed herself to her paws, looming over Gutspaw and grabbing her frog to toss back onto the prey pile, still uneaten. She would just eat the prey they caught in order to practice.
As the pair made their way into the territory, Mistlewhisker glanced sidelong at bite. "Your commitment to your training is commendable. Well done." It was as close as bite would get to Mistlewhisker saying she was proud of bite, at least right now. "Are you looking forward to your warrior ceremony?"

Gutspaw let out a squawk when Mistlewhisker stood up and tossed her frog back into the pile. Gaze darting back and forth with a growing deep frown. It hadn't meant for her to do that. Aw bones, it felt like the most evil cat in the world. She probably didn't get a lot of chances to relax. Their clanmates were a bit idiotic at times. "Noo! Eat, eat, I was just - askin', wasn't sayin' you have to jump to it, " Gutspaw insisted, looking slightly distressed. The apprentice hopped to its paws and picked up the frog. Look, it of all cats knew food was important.
Of course, once the apprentice turned back teeth realized the deputy had already started to walk outside of camp. Gutspaw swiftly followed after, frog hanging from its jaws. It was squishy. It didn't take long for it to catch up to Mistlewhisker's side. Voice muffled, it seemed as if it was trying to say thanks. It did not say the main reason behind all of the training was because it was STILLL an apprentice and had not a clue how else to prove itself. Gutspaw even tried to attend whatever patrols it could.
Its ears perk up at the mention of bite's ceremony and excitedly it nods its head up and down. "..Youu dwnt knww whwn thwt mwght be, dww you?" Gutspaw inquired, "I thwnk I'm the oldwst apprwntice. Whwch is pwinful to knww, " it confessed. It wasn't really sure, but it was only two moons away from being eighteen moons. Seriously!!! Why was it still sleeping with BABIES!! It had been met its requirements since like,, thirteen moons. Had to be a punishment at this point.
Once they got to the area they were supposed to be, Gutspaw would drop the frog and nudge it towards the deputy. Fooooood.

Amusement glimmered in Mistlewhisker's eye as Gutspaw floundered, grabbing her discarded frog and bringing it along with them. "I was simply planning on eating the prey we catch for this lesson." She explained, but the frog was with them now, and she might as well eat it later. She hadn't gotten the chance to eat when she woke up this morning either... yeah, she could definitely eat a squirrel and a frog right now.
Gutspaw's warrior ceremony? Now that was a good question. Mistlewhisker scanned the clearing, jaws open to scent for squirrels (as they were the easiest to teach flaying on). "You did go missing for a few moons," she reminded bite, but not unkindly, "so it is reasonable to expect you to be behind. Though, I imagine it will be very soon." She reassured bite. "Have you gotten your assessment yet?"
The scent of squirrel caught her attention, and she answered Gutspaw's response with a nod before jerking her head. "Find a squirrel and bring it back here. Then we will begin."
Mistlewhisker slunk into the brush, following her trail until she spotted the grey tail of an oblivious squirrel. The Deputy lunged forward, killing the squirrel swiftly and wishing it a safe passage to the afterlife. Then she returned to the designated spot, waiting for Gutspaw.

Oh. Gutspaw's expression shifted, quickly becoming blank to cover up the rising embarrassment. Seemed like she wasn't that hungry, but really, she ought to eat beforepaw. "Uuhm, theen we're gwtting a jwmpstart on wt..?" It offered up to the deputy, teeth didn't really want to after frogs anyway. Tasty, but pain in the ass to try and catch.
This time around, Gutspaw couldn't hide the grimace at the mention if teeth going missing. "That wws like, ewght mwwns ago..!!! I'm a chwnged cwt," well, it had gotten better at not getting caught at least. Listen, if it wanted to put its life in danger that was its right. If they ended up dying then so be it. It was written in the void. Besides, the tabby was far from behind. By bones, it swore it knew more than some warriors these days.
Icy blue eyes flickered away, ooops. Did Mistlewhisker want to its final assessment? It wasn't like she was asking about it, but suddenly it felt like Gutspaw had went behind its back. Expect, it had just went to an Enforcer! Like teeth was supposed to do, pretty sure. Even though technically the molly would've been fine - it didn't want to bother her.
It gave a short nod, "Slwwpyswnrise, " and Gutspaw refused to acknowledge how much younger the other was. Prodigies. Weirdos.
Ears perked up at Mistlewhisker's command, and bite's nose twitched to scent. Huh, she was right. Two squirrels nearby, though opposite directions. It seemed liked its squirrel was a bit far away. Without another word, Gutspaw went off to hunt down the prey animal. It took a while, finding it in the branches of a tree. It swiftly skittered up a different but nearby & downwind tree. It leapt from branches, pouncing on the squirrel. Gutspaw killed it quickly, wishing it to the afterlife without another thought.
The apprentice trotted back towards its mentor, dropping the caught squirrel before sitting down in front of her.

Sleepysunrise had done Gutspaw's assessment, hm? Good, the Enforcer was reliable and wouldn't go easy on bite. Mistlewhisker nodded in approval.
After hunting her squirrel, Mistlewhisker waited for Gutspaw. It didn't take long for bite to return, setting its squirrel down in front of her. "Let us start."
"Take each leg of the squirrel and use your claw to slice around the base of the paw." She unsheathed her claws and used one with expert precision to cut the grey-furred flesh just above where the paws started. Once Gutspaw had copied her, she continued. "Focusing on the hind legs, you will cut along the inside of the squirrel's thighs, connecting the two cuts you already made." In a sweeping arc, Mistlewhisker cut from one paw to the other, separating the belly of the squirrel from the back. "If you wish to keep the tail, break it from the spine so it can be pulled off with the rest of the pelt." A sickening snap indicated that she had snapped her squirrel's tail.
Once she had gotten the bottom half done, she looked to Gutspaw. "Questions?" If there were none, she would continue.

Gutspaw listened to Mistlewhisker carefully, nodding bite's head along to her instructions. The scent of blood filled the air and while it had ate a bit ago, it was regretting not grabbing a quick snack. Its thoughts drifted to flesh, and blood filling its mouth - the taste of iron. To sink its teeth into something soft, to hear it scream. Its startling, Gutspaw realizes, the monstrous hunger that lurked beneath the surface. Something that kept it from ever being like its clanmates, destined to be an outlier.
The apprentice shakes its head back and forth once, twice, thrice before tuning back into the deputy. Right. Flaying. Could eat later. It copied what Mistlewhisker had done, carefully cutting along invisible lines. Though, Gutspaw's cuts were far less as neat as hers and much more jagged. Then, teeth would connect the lines - watching the fur begin to separate.
It would take a pause, gaze lifting to watch Mistlewhisker break the tail. It winched at the crunching noise, "Eck. You ever break a bone or somethin'? Sounds like hell, could never wait all that time to have it healed, " A pause, a thought dwelling. ".. Or, alternatively, do you know how to break another's bone? Like,,, cat-wise?" It inquired, a morbid question but uh, useful Gutspaw supposed. Not quite what she meant regarding questions, though. Eh. It was curious.
The tabby would grab ahold of the squirrel's tail before snapping it from the spine.

Gutspaw followed her instructions easily, the Deputy's eye glinting as she scrutinized bite's cuts. His questions intruiged her, and she huffed in amusement. "No, I have never broken a bone." The recovery time sounded difficult, though. She could never be still for that long. The clan would probably fall apart if she wasn't there to keep it in line. ... though maybe she was overselling her importance. Bite's next question earned a tilt of her head. "Breaking another's bone... If you put enough pressure on a limb, it will eventually break. Dropping your weight on a single point of a leg can often result in a break."
Well, with that answered, Mistlewhisker continued the lesson. "Cut a circle around the neck of the squirrel--you do not need to connect this to the cuts on the squirrel's forepaws." She demonstrated, waiting for Gutspaw to copy her before moving on. "This part is difficult at first but gets easier as you practice. Take the squirrel's back paws in your mouth and take the flap of skin and pull down." Mistlewhisker straightened up, setting her weight on her haunches and holding the squirrel upside-down by the paws. With her front paws she hooked her claws into the pelt, dragging it down over the flesh with a wet squelch. Once the pelt was stuck over the head, she set the body down and dug her claws into its stomach, taking the pelt in her teeth and pulling it over the head.
Now she had an inside-out pelt, ready to be cleaned. "Once you have your pelt, you can wash it in water before bringing it to your nest, or to whomever you offer it to. I advise cleaning it--ensures there is limited dust on it." Dusty pelts made everyone sneeze, and that was not conducive to a good sleeping environment.
