Echopaw's nose wrinkled when the smell of illness wafted from the cat arriving, but she still wanted to be friendly nonetheless. There was a sickness going on, Echopaw had heard tidbits of gossip from the other apprentices. Hopefully whoever was sick would get better. She approached who she assumed was Mallowpaw, and gave herself a cheerful expression. "Oh! Hello there. Mallowpaw, right?" Echopaw asked the sickly apprentice, "I think it's okay with Spiderthroat. You look a bit ill so it's understandable that you'd take a bit of time, right?"

The calico watched as the lot stumbled in. Eyeing in particular the sickly looking apprentice. The plan was to ask Bumblestar her thoughts, if the leader believed she was sick he'd trust she'd drop the apprentice off at the sick camp. But! Plans have changed and She pulled a fast one on him. Suddenly he now had a patrol. Well. He'd probably end up stickin her in the sick camp.

"Alrighty. I'll swap with ya, an how many times do I have to tell you, they ain't even mine." he sighed. Stepping towards his group that formed.


"Myself, Skunkridge ( @Idiotic.Bean101 ) , Antpaw ( @Badwolf ) an..." a pause as he eyed the sickly looking apprentice. Ear twitching. She...didn't look the best. Hmm. "Mallowpaw ( @kittycatburmise ) . We will be goin out in the general territory an' catch what we can." he stated, turning to look over his shoulder at his patrol.

"Next. Violetfreckle ( @vellichor ) you , Redhawk ( @taillow ) , Echopaw ( @RavensCall ) an Alpinepaw ( @Highsnow of Matterhorn ) . You lot head off towards Firefly Cove 'n catch what you can. Keep an eye and ear out. The moment any sort of danger is heard or seen I want nothing but you lot coming back immediately. Don't be a hero I'll kill you like a traitor." stern. But he was getting really tired of stupid warriors trying to act all brave. Keep the apprentices alive first dingbats.

"If a patrol mate fails to report or even participate, let me know upon your return. They'll be dealt with accordinly." a pause before dipping his head. A signal for them all to move out. "Let's get goin." (whoever posts next is free to just post in ThunderClan Territory )

He watched, teary-eyed as his last family member left, and he didn't know if they would return. Probably not, since it was clear they hated him. The tom slowly got to his shaky paws, doing his best not to break down again. I have to do better. I need to be better. Then maybe...

maybe someone will want me.

He turned back to the camp entry, hoping that he could see his brother's bright orange fur one last time.

but he was gone.

and with that, wolfpaw vanished into the darkness of the medicine den.

Antpaw dips his head and follows after Skunkridge, but his eyes are focused on Spiderthroat, the clan's deputy. Sure, he was stern and snappy, but Antpaw didn't mind. In fact, he approved. It would put some sense into the idiots who went around pretending to be heroes, and getting apprentices killed in the process.

Which reminded him... "You sound awful," He meows brusquely at the other apprentice. "As if you've swallowed a toad."

Mallowpaw hadn't been expecting anyone to reply. Maybe Spiderthroat or one of the warriors would tell her that she wasn't late, but she hadn't expected the words to come from an apprentice. In such a friendly way too. "Uh, thanks," she replied. She figured the cat must be Echopaw; she knew the names of the other apprentices. Not that she had interacted with any of them, but it was hard to not eventually learn the names of the cats you shared a den with. Mallowpaw's memory of the last meeting was a haze of sickness, but hadn't Bumblestar mentioned something about cats rejoining? Was Echopaw one of them? She must be. Facing her, Mallowpaw noted that Echopaw was fully grown, and her missing eye and heavily scarred pelt suggested she wasn't twelve moons or a particularly large ten or eleven moon old. Yes, the wilds were tough, but she was pretty sure it would take a while to attain all her scars, and she must have been old enough to know how to hunt if she had survived there. They could be the same age. The thought caused a flicker of warmth to ignite in Mallowpaw's stomach, and in her ill state she allowed hope to seep into her mind. Maybe, just maybe, she had found a potential friend.

Spiderthroat spoke then, placing Mallowpaw on a patrol with Skunkridge and Antpaw. Disappointment flickered in her chest; she had been hoping she would get to talk to Echopaw. Oh well. It didn't matter. She padded after her patrolmates, but dread pooled in her stomach as Spiderthroat's words sank in. Hunting. She would have to hunt. Would she even be able to hunt in her current state?

She didn't think so.

Antpaw's voice distracted her from her growing apprehension. The apprentice's tone was brusque, so different from Echopaw. "I know," Mallowpaw replied. She didn't know what else to say. All she knew was that she felt as awful as she sounded.
