Very good. Shadeclaw didn't enjoy combat much. He'd done worse on his first try. Firepaw was doing well in his eyes. "Quicker on the roll, and try not to stumble."

Shadeclaw pauses, flexing his claws. He didn't want to accidentally hurt Firepaw. "Mock battle. Claws in." His voice is flat. "Ready?"

Firepaw nodded. Of course, she did not expect everything to go smoothly on her first training session. It hadn't always happened like that.

"Right. Ok," she murmured softly. She looked to Shadeclaw. "Alright, I'm ready."

Shadeclaw nods and pauses for a few seconds before he leaps at Firepaw. Real battle wasn't usually like that. Battle was more.. immediate, and it didn't give you any sense of warning. But this was Firepaw's first time, and he didn't want to make things too hard for her. One step at a time.

His paws stretch out to swipe her muzzle if she isn't quick to avoid it. He hopes she would. If she didn't... well, he had his claws hidden for a reason. It'll just leave a bruise or two if she's unlucky.

Firepaw did not know much about fighting, but she did know a whole lot about dodging. She quickly slipped out of the way, ducking flawlessly from Shadeclaw's swipe before attempting her own swipe at the warrior's direction. Part of her wished it'd hit, so Shadeclaw could see she was worthy enough. But another part of her hoped it didn't.

Good reflexes! Better than his, honestly. Which was surprising considering the fact that Firepaw was missing an eye. Though Firepaw had a lot of scars, it wasn't from lack of skill.

Shadeclaw doesn't duck like his apprentice does. Instead he twists his body to the side to avoid the attack, and paradoxically sticks even closer to her so that it's difficult for her to attack him properly. He's using his larger size to his advantage, attempting to wrestle Firepaw to the ground and bite down on her neck to make her surrender. It's a very common tactic, mainly used by large cats, for example, those in Riverclan or Shadowclan.

Firepaw's eyes widen as Shadeclaw easily twists out of the way, avoiding her attack. Sheathed paws swipe in the air, and she falls, unable to keep her balance. But as quickly as she had fallen, Firepaw scrambles back on her paws, attempting a swipe aimed lower. However, that move ultimately fails as Shadeclaw swiftly pins her to the ground, lightly biting down on her neck. She yelps in bewilderment, louder than intended, wincing from the force.

She could almost feel Leafclaw biting down on her neck, though not as gentle as Shadeclaw.

Firepaw lets out a nervous chuckle, wriggling to get out of Shadeclaw's grasp. Not that he was holding tight, she was just not in the best position.

"Wow, that was, uh- heh-" She manages to sputter. "That was cool."

Shadeclaw doesn't reply to that comment, but the inside of his ears turn redder. He lets go of Firepaw, waits for her to go back onto her four paws, and meows, "Your advantage against me is in your speed. In that situation, you should roll and kick me off before I can bite."

Against a large rock or tree would be the best. If Firepaw did it quick enough, it would not only create distance between her and her opponent, it may stun and confuse the opponent enough for her to attack and chase them away.

"Do you want to try again?"

(I wanted to look up more about her, but I can't find her bio? For now I assumed she's faster than Shadeclaw cuz he's big and slow, and she's younger, lol.)

Firepaw gets up on all fours, shaking her fur. She nods as Shadeclaw speaks. Speed. Alright. She knew how to evade. Perhaps he was right. Feeling slihtly more confident than previously, Firepaw slides into a battle position.

"Yeah, I'm ready."

Good. Shadeclaw abandons the pawswipes from before. Instead, he bunches his muscles and springs on top of Firepaw. His large build lets him wrestle her to the ground, and he attempts to repeat what he did before.

Firepaw tenses when Shadeclaw leaps at her, pinning her down like what he did previously. But Firepaw now knew better, thanks to the tabby tom. She shifts her position underneath him and positions her hind legs so she could kick, then kicks hard, attempting to throw Shadeclaw off of her.

However, as she does it, she instantly feels bad.
