Echoing Cries of War

Echopaw gleefully followed Mothflame outside of camp for battle training. She was dying to find out what she would be doing first, but didn't want to overwhelm the warrior whom was teaching her. Her bobbed tail swished in excitement and her whiskers twitched in anticipation. In her state of euphoria, she nearly tripped over a tree root, but managed to move around it in time.

It wasn't her first time teaching the beautiful arts of battle to an apprentice, but Mothflame still felt unsure of what to start with. Perhaps the basics, assuming Echopaw didn't know a whole lot about battling.

She stopped at an open field near the Firefly Cove, turning to the apprentice with a smile.

"So, what do you know about battle?" She asked, making sure she had an idea of what the younger cat knew, or rather, didn't know. Mothflame herself was excited to start this training session. She quite liked fighting. Perhaps a bit obsessed, but that did not matter.

Echopaw (small silver tabby with a missing tail and left eye, her remaining eye is copper-coloured, and she has many scars across her body.)


Echopaw followed Mothflame out further to Firefly Cove. This was the kind of place that would never stop surprising Echopaw, who upon being asked about battle experience, shook her head. "Not much," she replied, "I haven't got a lot of serious battle experience, aside from an unfortunate run-in with weasels."

(echopaw is older than moth by 5 months lol)

Hm. So this wouldn't be as easy as she'd anticipated. Mothflame rolled her shoulders before she began talking again.

"Alright. I'll teach you the basics first. Then we can have a practice spar, sound good to you?"
Expecting an answer but not waiting for it, Mothflame instantly got to it.

"Front paw blow. Claws sheathed." She reached out and made a downwards whacking motion with her forepaw.

"Front paw strike. Claws unsheathed." She sliced at the air, sharp claws extended.

"Bite." She pretended to bite down onto an enemy's throat, hearing her teeth clack as they collided.

"Roll." She dropped to the ground swiftly, rolling, then getting up on all fours instantly. "Good for avoiding high-aimed attacks."

"Finally, kick." She kicked back powerfully with her hind leg.

"I know that's a lot, but that's all you need to know to start fighting. Now, coudl you demonstrate each of 'em for me?"

Echopaw found a small tree stump to practice on and used the front paw blow on it, keeping her claws sheathed as instructed. Then, she slashed at a falling leaf with her claws unsheathed, cleanly cutting the leaf in to smaller leaves. For the bite attack, Echopaw bit her own forepaw hard enough to cause pain, but not hard enough to cause bleeding, before rolling on all fours and kicking at the air. Echopaw got up again to ask Mothflame if they could begin sparring.

Mothflame's eyes widened for a brief moment, surprised that the apprentice had found things to attack, including her own paw. Well, that was... Not expected. But it was progress. Mothflame was proud. Nodding sharply, she shook her fur and shifted her weigth from paw to paw.

"Alright, Echopaw," She flexed her claws, taking a second to examine them. "We'll be doin' a small practice spar. I'll let ya use your claws on me, just remember to not sink 'em in, you get it?" She immediately slid into a battle position, fluffy tail lashing behind her. She'd let Echopaw take the first hit. She was an apprentice with barely any battle experience, after all.

Echopaw nodded, before she used the front paw blow on Mothflame, and unsheathed her claws. If the blow connected, she'd use a front-paw strike to uppercut the warrior.

Mothflame swiftly moved out of the way, though Echopaw’s claws grazed her shoulder slightly. It was quite impressive, actually, that the apprentice was able to immediately go for a claws-unsheathed attack and almost hit. She instantly sprung at Echopaw to pin her down. She hoped the apprentice would make this a little harder for her and not give up under her weight, like what some others did.

Echopaw hissed in annoyance when the attack missed. When the warrior had pinned her down, Echopaw struggled under Mothflame's weight, but unleashed an uppercut on Mothflame's face. Hopefully, it would cause Mothflame to let go of her.

Mothflame took note of the attack and slightly moved her head, but Echopaw's claws still landed, causing her to back off of the apprentice.

"Very good," Mothflame praised, standing a few tail-lengths from the apprentice. "Though I think kicking me off with your hind legs would do a better job in getting me off, hm?"

Shaking her fur, Mothflame leapt forward, preparing a light blow to Echopaw's flank, her body slightly lowered to the ground.
