Pineberry lays down and bites down hard. A small sack comes out and Shadeheart starts licking it frantically.
@Splitmoon @aerialbane this is Needlekit
She still felt shaky on her paws, the injury on her shoulder trouble even after having been treated - the wound over half her face just as much, but she had been lucky to keep both her eyes. Nightshiver hadn't left the nursery since the incident, only occasionally popping her head outside to ensure to kit was walking into the territory. But the pregnant feline was far too frightened to leave any of the kittens out of her sight anymore, and once again the action of consuming food fell in the back of her mind. She couldn't help but think that it was her fault. If it wasn't for the roundness of her belly alerting her to the kittens she was carrying for another, the queen might forget to eat entirely - these littles one the round of her stomach were what was forcing her to eat every day at leasy once, she couldn't let this go wrong too. Not again.
Today, as the forever queen sat watching over the nursery, the sight of a birthing queen caught her eye - not an uncommon occurrence, and everything seemed to be going alright. She had support. Even so, and perhaps it was her motherly instinct kicking into full gear, Nightshiver found herself approaching the soon to be mother with a comforting smile. "You-you're doing... great."
She mew quietly, looking down at the newborn Shadeheart was licking. Her heart leapt. Quickly she leant down to nip the sack open in case it didn't open itself, before turning to stand beside Pineberry and - with hopeful permission - resting her paws upon the new mother's belly as she had seen Mossfreckle do, to try and feel if anything was amiss. "Does everything... f-feel... alright? A-anything, out of ... place?"
She questioned to be sure, keeping eye on the birth of the kittens and if each of them were indeed breathing.
[ My bad! And only quoting (or mentioning) is fine, it both gives a notification ]
After what felt like too much time the kit seemed to throw something up, earning Nightshiver a sigh of relief when the little seemingly began to breathe. Steeping closer, the forever queen reached out to gently take the kits between her paws from Shadeheart, gently reaching out to pry the kitten's mouth open and check for any remaining obstructions, but as far as she could tell, everything was fine; at least, she hoped. Turning to Runningstorm, she smiled wrily. "They'll all... be fine."
She mew, returning the kitten to Pineberry.
Runningstorm looked at Nightshiver with relief. "Thank you." He said with a sigh. He then turned and looked at Shadeheart as well. "Thank you too." he said before turning back to his mate. "They are okay, now." he purred happily. He then turned back to Nightshiver. "Will our kit be okay in the future?" he asked. He didn't know if that would cause any problems with the kit...for he was not breathing when the kit was birthed.
Shadeheart looked at his paws which was now covered in barf.
Pineberry looked white with fear and had dropped the stick.
Galepaw came in and looked at his sister and her kits with surprise

smiling gently at both parents, Nightshiver gave a light nod. "This happens... more of..often than... I'd.. like. But, most... most kits... are fine... afterwards."
She reassured, looking down at the happy little bunch before mismatched eyes looked up at both parents. "But- if..if any... issues... arise, Mossfreckle... might know.... what..to do."
He was talented young medicine cat, in the forever queen's opinion. And good with kits, too.
Yewkit hung limply from Mama Nightsh's mouth, grouchy and uncertain. She was so hungry. Everyone kept promising milk, but she never got any. No fair, she thought, tiny white claws poking out of their sheaths. Tears burned at the edges of her eyes. She'd been so strong, but she was so hungry. She couldn't take the gaping pit in her stomach anymore. So she cried, too tired to wail, salty tears sinking into the gradient of russet fur on her face.
The scent of milk slammed into her. Yewkit's attention immediately perked, and she looked up. Her amber eyes grew wide. Water dripped from her jaws. Many cats! Much food! So many kits tumbled around, and there were queens!
Mama Nightsh put the young yet massive she-kit down, and she looked around. Her paws still felt weird, wrapped in the leaves with the strange sticky stuff. It felt stiffer and less slippery now. Yewkit wanted to run forward and nudge every queen's belly in search of sustenance, but she was so tired, and she didn't know what to do. How could she still be strong? ...Were her parents disappointed in her? Mama and Papa gone, she reminded herself. She still wasn't sure how to feel.
Especially since she hadn't been fed.
@Estelle (Kinda lazy but I needed to get something out)
