She watched as he progressed, smiling as he finally succeeded. “Great job!” she praised him. Praise was always good, she knew that. It was a decent motivator. “Now, again so I know you’ve got it” she ordered, flicking her tail to the start again.

He accepted the praise then…again? He sighed and grumbled something inaudible. He already did it so many times, why again? However this time he did it with ease, not making a sound. He figured out exactly how to step and sense the leaves despite the dark setting.

BristleThorn nodded to the cat. “Great! Now- I smell some prey here. I need you to find it in the dark and successfully catch it.” she ordered, staring at him expectantly. This was good practice, learning each skill in the dark.

The apprentice nodded hesitantly, scenting the air. The closest seemed to be a lizard…there were quite a few around actually. He decided on one however, getting into the crouch he had just repeatedly practiced and blindly followed the scent until the little thing came into his view. Perfect. He got ready to pounce, wiggling his haunches before leaping up, successfully punning and killing the lizard. “Yes!” he muttered proudly.

“Great job!” she praised, nodding her approval. “Now, once you’re a warrior I want you to keep practicing night training, Mk?” BristleThorn checked.

SpiderPaw nodded. “Okay! I will—uh…wait is that it for tonight?” he knew quite a bit of time passed. He did lots of practice runs on his stealth and such…he had this skill down.

BristleThorn nodded, standing up. “Yes, that’s it for now. It’s getting late, you need energy for more training.” she explained, starting to lead the way back.

SpiderPaw nodded, following quickly. “T-thanks Bristle…I’ve had a great time…being your apprentice…you’re an amazing mentor a d I hope you do as much good for your future apprentice as you have me.” he said genuinely. He knew their training was coming to an end, she’d always be his mother though.

She smiled, a bit of grief filling her gaze. “Of course kiddo, any time. You were a joy to teach and I can’t wait to see where you go, you’re the best kit I could’ve asked for” BristleThorn purred

SpiderPaw was eager, though he took into consideration the amount of work he may be forced to do.
