OVERVIEW: Tanglespring is a unique cat. With his main form of defense taken from him by Twolegs, he is constantly playing an internal game of compensating for his loss. Though he comes off as easygoing and enjoyably quick witted, he grieves the loss of his claws by dedicating himself to being an exceptional warrior without them. He is eccentric, and leans heavily into his impulsive creativity to solve problems. By developing a fighting style that accommodates for his disability, he decided he would never feel powerless again. He’s a suave cat, and can be flirtatious at times, though beneath his flippancy lies a deep loyalty to those he respects. He has a soft spot for kits and apprentices and enjoys playing with them.

-BACKGROUND-
HISTORY: Born as a rogue and orphaned by wild dogs, Tanglespring had to become very independent at a very young age. He was a tough, gritty kit and managed to survive on his own until being captured by Twolegs and taken to an animal shelter. Naturally, he was feral and defensive, and when his Twoleg owners deemed him dangerous, he was declawed. The procedure devastated young Tanglespring (called Nero at the time). He struggled to adapt to the loss of his claws, the pain, and the nerve damage. Unfortunately, the declawing effected his balance, rendered his forepaws useless in combat, and cause recurrent pain in his paws even after healing. Mentally, his confidence was decimated and his deep fear of Twolegs became unmanageable. Finally, he managed to escape his Twoleg home and fled to the forest. Fascinated by the clan cats, he observed them in secret, and began practicing fighting techniques alone in the outskirts, mimicking clan fighting styles and steadily adapting them into a version that accommodated his new disability. He became obsessed with studying combat, and did not approach ShadowClan for membership until he was confident that he could prove his worth in battle. Despite his lack of claws, his unique fighting style proved to be extremely effective. His plucky, relentless personality paired with his obsessive dedication earned him a warrior name shortly thereafter.

BELIEFS: Though Tanglespring has a deep loyalty to his clan, he is uncertain about or neutral towards StarClan and believes strongly in free will. He is known to challenge StarClan’s dominion and even imply that they encroach on free will. He can also be a bit ambivalent about clan rank, and tends to perceive his clan mates all as equals.
-PHYSICAL TRAITS-
FUR COLOR/TYPE: Jet black, short, and glossy
MARKINGS: white forepaws, and a white stripe down his face running from his forehead to his nose

BUILD: Lean and muscular due to intensive and continual training. Built similarly to a Bengal, with toned shoulders and a long tail.
HEIGHT: Unusually tall
WEIGHT: 8lbs
VOICE: Slightly lilting, cool and flippant. His lazy, smooth dialect offsets his intimidating appearance.
GAIT: Has a slight limp due to declawing, but otherwise very elegant and known for his silent footfalls. The limp worsens in cold weather or after heavy training.
SCENT: Pine and verbena.
SCARS/DEFORMITIES: During his brief time as a kittypet, Tanglespring was declawed. The procedure left him with nerve damage and frequent pain in his paws.
DISEASES/CONDITIONS: n/a
COORDINATION: Tanglespring has developed a fighting style that accommodates his lack of claws that is highly reliant on intensely sharp coordination and a completely new approach to balance. He fights evasively, and works off of his ability to predict his opponent’s next move.
REFLEXES: Another strength developed to adapt, Tanglespring has a highly predictive fighting style and is extremely quick to react.
STRENGTH: While he excels in coordination and reflexes, Tanglespring lacks strength in his forelegs due to the damage done by the declawing. He has powerful hind legs to compensate, but struggles to fend off enemies in close combat where evasive techniques are not as effective.
WEAKNESSES: climbing (he is largely unable to climb trees) and close combat heavily reliant on offense.
CLAWLESS FIGHTING STYLE: Tanglespring’s fighting style is adapted to accommodate his lack of claws and relies heavily on predicting his opponent’s movements and using their momentum against them. He relies heavily on his hind legs and tail and moves exceptionally fast. His technique is not unlike the martial art, Aikido, and allows him to have a distinct advantage over specially against cats who are larger/heavier than he is. This technique is almost dancelike, and requires a high level of agility and quick thinking to learn.
