Hemlockleaf was genuinely taken off guard when Blueberrybird snapped back at him. Usually, she'd just let him say his peace and leave. She very rarely got upset enough to snap at him. He blinked, trying to process what just happened before he could even get to thinking about her question. But once the shock wore off, his own anger surged. "How dare you!" He growled. "You have absolutely no right to question me like that! Despite your best efforts, she was my sister in the end! You don't get to decide how I miss her!" By the end, he was spitting in his outrage. He wasn't even totally sure what they were talking about anymore, only that the words from both parties seemed old... Like prey that had been sitting at the bottom of the prey pile and festering for moons, turning all it touched to rot and crow-food.

He didn't know how, but this seemed to be the moment where they were finally lashing out with old feelings. Things that have gone unsaid for too long. Were they actually getting to the root of the problem? Hemlockleaf doubted that was actually possible. There was no way for them to sort things out between them. Because no matter what, Magpiepaw is still dead. And he would never get that time back.

Her anger grew, and like a moth to a porch light she couldn't say no. "How dare me?! You're the one holding on to her!" She felt like all the words that had been biting her before were tumbling out. "At some point you need to realize that she's gone and blaming everyone else for it isn't going to bring her back!" Her temper was hot and uncontrollable. Maybe it was some pint up emotion that had been secretly strangling her. After her parents and then Magpie. Death was something that followed her and now the one time she didn't think she'd have to go through this alone. He's is only focused on himself."Why do you have to be so selfish? You're not the only one who loved her! You're are not the only who knew her!" her voice cracked and tears threatened their way into her eyes. This is childish. I don't even know what I'm saying. "You're not alone..."

Once again, the brown tom was taken off guard. But he wasn't about to back down now. "I don't blame anycat for Magpie's death!" He growled defensively. "I only blame you for taking her away from me!" He spat. In the back of his mind, his own words shocked him. He knew how much Blueberrybird loved Magpiepaw and vice-versa, they were inseparable. But it was like he was removed from his body, he couldn't stop himself.

"Don't you ever compare your loss to mine! She was my sister!" He growled. He blinked in surprise at the harshness of his own words, it was like he was saying things especially to cause Blueberrybird pain, even though he was only expressing feelings that had been suppressed for too long. Only to boil over uncontrollably now. But why now?! He had managed to avoid this very thing for such a long time, why was he losing control now?

"You're wrong, Blueberrybird..." He murmured, the aggression in his voice replaced with utter exhaustion. Emotionally, he felt like he was going to collapse at any moment. He averted his gaze again, looking away from the came in front of him. His sister's best friend. "Magpiepaw is gone. Our parents are gone. I am alone..."

Surprise glittered her eyes, and she took a step back. She didn't know he felt that way. I mean how could she have known. It was such an irrational reason to hate someone, but she still understood why. His words cut deep, and she felt like she was drowning in her thoughts. Were they both really all alone? Frustration clawed it's way into her stomach. She didn't know how to respond. He was so... So what? He was going through the same pain has her. The irrational anger he had she in turn also had. Was there even an answer? Is he right. Had she been stealing Magpipaw away from him? It hurt to think about. Tears threatened to fall, but she couldn't cry. At least not in front of him. She paused meeting his eyes. Maybe she was searching of forgiveness. When she didn't find it she felt more lost hen she thought she could. Was there anything she could say?"I'm..." What should she say? "I'm sorry." Her eyes fluttered away from him. It was a weak response, and she knew it, but there wasn't anything else she could think of to say.

Hemlockleaf felt a stab of pain seeing Blueberrybird turn her gaze from him. His sides heaved with effort. The physical effort it was taking on his body to have this explosion of emotions. He lightly panted before letting out a heavy breath. The brown, scarred tom turned his head away sharply with a grunt before turning around fully. His tail lashing. Hemlockleaf's lips pulled back in a grimace as he held back more words, what good were they now? Words were only making things worse.

Hemlockleaf decided enough was enough. He'd taken his fill of this for one moon. Without saying another word to her, Hemlockleaf stormed off. I need to take a walk. He broke into a trot and then a run, bounding into the safe confines of the pine trees in which he often sought refuge.

She quietly watched him leave. She decided she would just try and sleep again. Her paws moved slowly into the Warriors den. Her heart felt heavy. It weighed her down like she had eaten lead. Once she reached her nest she curled into a tight ball. Tears clawed their way into her eyes, and she couldn't help but let them out. Hemlockleaf had ripped her dearest memories of Magpiepaw up out of the deepths they were hiding in. Her bitter tears didn't help as much as she hoped they would. They just made it hurt more.
