Fallenkit padded warily into the medicine den. She felt horrible. Her stomach growled in pain, and she bent over. Lightningstorm? She croaked. Her eyes were clouded, and she'd never felt like this before. My stomach hurts. She mewed heavily.

About to exit the den, her stomach making the grumbles that only voles could satisfy, Lightningstorm halts, a brown and cream patched face poking into her den just as she approaches the end of the chamber. Tilting her head to the side, the herbalist must admit surprise at Willowpaw's request. It seems most of the cats she asks to go on patrol tend to want to get out of it, the idea of carrying mostly bitter herbs not particularly enticing. Yet here is an apprentice, actually trying to put in some work and volunteering to go get marigold and juniper berries, her admittedly two most used herbs. A surprising amount of cats within the clan have lung problems, and considering the many, many uses of the berries, keeping them stocked is always a problem. Marigold is of course marigold. The very foundation of a medicine cat's repertoire of herbs at their disposal. Whatever cat had discovered its incredible uses would no doubt be well within their rights to be incredibly egotistical for the rest of their eternity up there in the stars. Unfortunately, there was just one... small problem with the paw's offer.

"I appreciate the offer, love. Proper kind of you. But I'm 'fraid juniper berries won't be growing and ready to pick until mid leaffall at the earliest. Tell you what, though. I never say no to marigold, and despite my constant patrols sent out to gather more, I seem to be needing more and more each time. You lot sure like to keep me busy with all the scraps you get into," she purred teasingly, whiskers twitching before she continued.

"If you're really up to it, feel free to round up a patrol to gather some marigold. And in the process, if you find some good, sturdy sticks, I'd be proper chuffed. I know it sounds like a trivial thing, but with WindClan being as treeless as it is for the most part, it's a right bloody nightmare to find any sticks at all, and I've been running painfully low on those. Come look me up in the clearing if you can't find any warriors to help you out and I'll head out with you myself once I'm done eating. What say you on that?"

That's not just a Lightningstorm offer. Sincerely, if Willowpaw has no luck finding warriors to accompany her out on a herb gathering patrol, feel free to have her come back to Lightningstorm and she'll go out with Willowpaw to gather up some marigold and sticks!

Willowpaw nodded and headed out to the clearing to round up a patrol.

Panicking.
Panicking, panicking, panicking.

She couldn't see!
And Redface had died!
Stupid, stupid rogue!

She was less panicked yet still paranoid when she smelt camp scents.
Alongside not being able to see, this hurt a lot.

She had soon been guided to the medicine den.
Oh thank StarClan.

She hadn't seen either Ashpaw or Wildkit after her call, and dropping from the roots provided to insight to neither, either. A snort of disappointment escaping her, Lightningstorm shook her head, turning around to face the Galewood once more. Twilightstar would have to hear about this demotion, and she wasn't looking forward to giving the leader more bad news. Yet before she could move she scented it. The familiar smell of honey sharp in the air as she turned around, brow raised as she searched for the feline who had brought some of the precious liquid without being asked to. Vinepaw himself had done so recently, and a part of her assumed it must have been the same apprentice once more, only to be met with a very different pair instead.

Ashpaw was back. Alongside Wildkit. With... honey and sticks in tow. Well. That had only taken a moon, yet it was clear they had gone out to gather some today. Had they been avoiding her in shame due to failure of acquisition? If so, that was silly. She would have understood. Plenty of cats had issues gathering honey. They tended to make the bees angry. Case in point... Ashpaw here looked like he had just bashed his entire face into the nest to grab pieces of comb and let the swarm have at him while he gathered it. She doubted that had been the case, but stars above. He was more stings than cat at this point.

The she-cat remained quiet as the demoted warrior spoke, turning to look at the kit. Noting the differences between them. While Ashpaw had most certainly taken on the entire nest, Wildkit had obviously avoided their ire. She had no idea what the tom had done to avoid the younger of the two getting stung, but she appreciated the effort. It took a special kind of selflessness to ensure another did not get stung, especially considering no one would have blamed him for it. Cats getting stung was really just an inevitability of gathering honey, or so she was beginning to understand. It's just most came back still looking like a cat..

"You know. If you were having trouble gathering honey, you could have come to me first, love. I would have gladly helped out," Lightningstorm mewed, no real anger in her voice as she spoke. "That's neither here nor there now, though, I suppose. You brought the honey and sticks back. That's what matters. Although... I hope you realize this isn't quite the last you see of me today, Ashcloud."

It was nonchalant, but with her clearly opting to use his warrior name instead of his apprentice moniker she lifted his demotion. It was clear to her that he hadn't been simply trying to skirt his work now, instead having been too ashamed to come back empty pawed. While she would have preferred to have been told this from the start, she could hardly blame him or punish him for it. Especially considering how the bees seemed to have taken care of that for him quite nicely. With a nod at Wildpaw, she dismissed the apprentice, doubting he would want to stick around for what came next, and not really willing to entertain him while she was busy regardless. It was clear from a glance that a few of those stings still had their stingers well stuck. She had her work cut out for her for the rest of the day, which meant Wildpaw was free to head on out to the apprentice's den while his mentor recovered.

"Come on now. We're going to have to tend to those stings of yours. Pretty sure Twilightstar wants warriors mentoring her apprentices, not cats that resemble a bee's arse," she finally added, eyes twinkling with mischief as she helped pick up some of the supplies they'd brought with them, the situation awfully familiar for some reason she couldn't quite place her paw on.

@Fish [Ashcloud] | @Oliver [Wildpaw]
Both Ashcloud and Wildpaw have had their demotions removed - I'll be updating soon to reflect that in the alliances - but Ashcloud will have to be treated! It should be a quick treatment, though, and he should be back to his usual self in a few days tops.

"Well..." Ashcloud flicked his ears and looked to the ground in embarrassment. He wanted to pride himself and in not needing help but maybe he'd have to humble himself just a tad. The bees made good work of breaking that wall around his ego. Then he lifted his head up when Lightningstorm mentioned seeing him again. Wha- Oh yeah that's right, he's a bees living pincushion. This was not going to be fun at all and he was dreading having to feel all of the stingers being pulled out of him. Ashcloud dreaded having to sit down after all of this.

Then Ashcloud looked absolutely frustrated by the joke, the rage look like it was going to boil up to a fever pitch as his tail last then— " HA! " All that frustrated look seem to be just Ashcloud holding in a laugh. The man was trying his best in life to be no nonsense and only serious business but despite it all... Ashcloud couldn't help it. He then grew a crowfood eating grin. "With the hell those bees gave me, we might as well replace warriors with bee 'arse's'." He chuckled before he followed after the medicine cat into the den. At least joking around made him forget about the fate he was going to have in the den for a few moments. Maybe he should cut out the tough guy act and try to joke around more, it was fun.

Taking a seat on one of the moss beds Ashcloud looked to Lightningstorm with a wary look. His tough look broke and he look just a touch scared. Who in their right mind would want to sit around and bear this anyways? He wasn't going to be harsh on himself for weakening his defenses for that. He was staying calm enough to stay still and that's what matter, he guessed. Any cat who'd make fun of him would probably be freaking out having to bear with this, right? That's what he'd like to think—He was getting in his own head and starting to make himself panic over nothing. "So." Ashcloud said to break the silence and the noise of his apparently bee filled brain. "How does this work? Eat a few poppies and tough it out?"

The medicine cat's ears perked up, surprised at seeing Hawkfur of all cats entering her den. While the tom was amicable enough and she had her fun teasing him, she wouldn't dare say they were close. More of a polite - or as polite as she ever accomplished - friendly acquaintance. She was aware a big part of that was her lack of memory regarding their earlier relationship, how close they were or weren't. Yet in all her time knowing him, he had never been the type to simply barge in, much less with kits in tow.

Normally just eating prey from the prey pile was not enough to make anyone sick. The prey pile was constantly searched for to ensure there was no spoiled food in there. Precisely to avoid situations like these. Mild suspicions plagued her mind for a moment as she wondered if someone had dropped the crowfood inside purposefully, but she was quick to dismiss that notion. It was honestly such a rare turn of events that it just so happened that a trio of kits picked up the spoiled prey before any warrior or apprentice spotted it, it could really be nothing more than a mistake. Perhaps a bit of food that had spent too long in the prey pile. A horrendous waste of a life in her eyes, but not the kit's fault, nor the matter at paw.

The sight of the kits for the most part aligned with kits that had only just played with spoiled food, the transmission of the less than appetizing fluids from their playtime to their stomachs not enough to cause any real harm. For the most part, they should all be quite alright. Yet Whistlekit seemed... off. Far too gone for a mere stomachache. Could she perhaps have a more sensitive stomach than her friends?

Without questioning, she closed up on the young she-kit, making a small inquisitive sound to let her know she wished to check up on her vitals as best she could. Unfortunately, the herbalist did not even need to get her paw close enough to the little one to feel the heat emanating from her small body. This prey must have been far more spoiled than just a day for such a violent reaction to have occurred. A fact that brought foul play to mind once more. Brow furrowing, she turned her attention to the two toms, noticing a light fever on just one of the two. She couldn't help but breathe in relief. She had only recently stocked up on borage, and it would come in plenty helpful here. The downside would be the use of her final juniper berry, and she silently swore in her mind. Until they were in season, she would have to find a substitute for Crowtooth and the rest of her patients with breathing problems. Yet she was fairly certain no one would complain about her using the berry to help avoid stomach problems for a young kit.

"Wait here, loves," she mewed, twitching her tail before sprinting down her tunnels into the darkness of her den, feeling her way to the herb storage.

She found them quickly. The borage in maw, the little beetle that made its home with her pushed out the remaining juniper berry, clacking its mandibles with glee, almost like if it was proud to have helped. Mind, this was about the third time the critter threw the juniper berry at her. It was a mere coincidence that she really did need it this time. Yet even that did not deter the grateful, amused purr she gave the shiny, black shelled insect before moving back through the tunnels and to her little patients.

"Alright. You two loves, here," she mewed, placing a borage flower before Whistlekit and Sedgekit each. "I'll tell you right now, this flower tastes like proper crap. Terrible. Just absolutely dreadful, really. But it's nothing compared to that crowfood you lot were rollin' around in, innit? Think of it as the price to pay for the knowledge that maybe if something smells like death itself, you stay right away for now, right? I promise you both though you'll feel right better once the flower's had a chance to take care of those nasty stomachaches and fevers you got.

As for you,"
she mewed, her voice amicable despite the severity of what she was saying. "Here. This berry's for you, Cottonkit. Your symptoms seem much lower than your friends, but I would rather avoid any problems popping up later. It's not the sweetest of berries, but trust me love, compared to some of my other herbs, it's a right proper treat it is."

While Lightningstorm's voice never raised or scolded, she kept her words blunt. Real. It would do her no good to have the kits suddenly surprised at the bitterness of the flowers and spit them out. They needed to eat the whole bud, whether they liked it or not. Gratefully, crowfood poisoning treatment was easy enough to treat... if perhaps not the most appetizing for the patient. She supposed it would serve as an important lesson in the future of what not to put in their mouths, even if it was just by contact. Turning to Hawkfur, she gave the tom a friendly grin, blinking gratefully for his swift response in bringing them here.

"Ta love. Should be fine with some rest if they eat up their herbs. I can keep them here if you like, but I think they'll fare better in the nursery under the caring eye of a queen... and away from the strong scents here," she purred, a small giggle escaping her as she turned her gaze back on the kits, making certain they ate their herbs before sending them off.

Sorry for how long this took to get to. Between storm season having been very active for a while there and work kicking me due to having to pick up slack due to the aforementioned storm season, my posting schedule took a big hit. There is no need to respond to this, however, and needless to say, the kits would be fine by now. The worst affected would have been Whistlekit who might have taken anywhere from three days to a quarter moon to heal, but by now should be in perfect health!

Sedgekit eats his share without much complaint. The flower doesn't taste good, but he didn't really care; if the medicine cat said he had to eat it, then he would eat it.

Whistlekit is a different story; she very much appreciates the warning. How could such a beautiful flower taste so bad? Her expression turns sour, and she opens her mouth, about to spit it out, but Sedgekit laughs and uses his tail to poke her in her side. Caught off guard, Whistlekit swallows the flower.

"We have to listen to Lightningstorm, or we'll never get better." Sedgekit meows to Whistlekit, who would normally she would make a sharp retort back, but she's tired, and eating the flower took a lot of energy out of her. Whistlekit mumbles something, and falls asleep. After a while, Sedgekit does the same, and there's two sleeping kits in the nursery.

Twistedpaw's head spun as she stumbled into the medicine den. She could barely feel the scratches etched across her skinny black chest. Wolffang's last words rang in her head like an eagle's screech, and wherever she looked, she saw the flash of his burning amber eyes. Or the hulking coyote. Or the rotting pile of carrion. Or the screeching, starry figure of Rosebriar. Nothing made sense. She could barely think straight, barely comprehend anything that was happening. All she knew was that she was supposed to get her wounds treated. Vinepaw had offered to go with her, which she was eternally grateful for. She glanced at the black-and-white smoke tom. His presence was the only thing stopping her from breaking down entirely.

If only Cowtuft were here... Pangs of grief and longing for the massive tom rushed through her, forcing her to a halt. She missed his sweet voice and gentle nature. Lightningstorm was a competent medicine cat, but she'd offered no reassurance while Twistedpaw was healing from the horrific wounds inflicted by RiverClan. Tears stung her eyes. Nothing... nothing felt right.

"...Lightningstorm?" she called quietly, sitting in the herb-scented den. Once, this was a place of comfort; now it made her paws tingle with anxiety. Still, the heady scents of herbs didn't chase out the reek of carrion and blood. "I... I got scratched by a... c-coyote..." She glanced at Vinepaw again. If she didn't remind herself that he was here, she feared she might lift away from this world entirely.

The medicine cat had been out. She didn't tend to take time off from the medicine cat's den, knowing she was needed there... but stars above, being so constantly confined underground could not be good for you. Even she had need of the sun's rays every now and then. Alongside a juicy vole caught by the stream. Her meal had been perfection, and while she had wished to stay out just a little longer, she made her way back towards the camp, getting updated on the situation as she walked to her den, now aware there was a patient waiting.

Lapis hues blinked as she took note of the apprentice laying in wait by her den's entrance, dried blood caked over injuries she had obtained fighting a... coyote, if the reports she had received had been right. Stars alive, a coyote! She'd never seen one, but she had knowledge of them, and the idea that there was one running wild in WindClan territory while she had been out and about still brought a shudder down her spine. Purring a quick greeting at the molly, she rushed past her, wanting to gather some herbs to help the paw before she began her full checkup. It didn't seem the apprentice was in any excruciating pain, and the blood seemed to have stopped flowing during her time away, but she would prefer to have marigold and cobwebs in paw to treat her before figuring if she needed to keep an eye out for any other worse injuries.

"Alright there, love," Lightningstorm mewed as she dropped her bundle of herbs before the molly, her moistened moss ready to clean the apprentice's injuries. "Heard 'bout what happened. Must have been a real fright. Now, I need to get up close and personal to clean up your wounds. I know you're not feeling very cheery right now, and I get that, but I don't want you risking infection anymore than you need. You alright with that?"

The medicine cat wasn't one to ask for permission most of the time. Once you entered through that tunnel, you were in her domain, and she would do what was best for her patient's health, their grumbling be damned. But this was different. This she-cat had just gone through a horrendously traumatic experience. The injuries sustained by the coyote might be nothing compared to the trauma of seeing her clanmate die... again, if the reports had been accurate. The last thing the herbalist needed was to trigger this poor paw's flight or fight response and have her run away or attack her by instinct.

I know you are no longer roleplaying Twistedpaw, and can understand if you prefer to not respond to this. Will absolutely be alright with it, no worries! But just in case you wanted to continue along with this healing, figured I would proceed without Vinepaw as I don't think I ever saw him respond, so I am assuming Lightningstorm arrived after he left for some reason or other.

The medicine cat's ears perked up as she heard a small voice calling to her, almond shaped eyes soon finding her young visitor. It would appear one of the kits had eaten something they shouldn't have, albeit this one had been seemingly brave enough to come to her on her own. This seemed to be happening an awful lot of late, which was surprising considering how many kits she had warned against eating most of anything. Not to mention the queens themselves no doubt taught their kittens these things as they grew up. Perhaps the nursery really was every bit as crowded as it seemed of late. It sometimes appeared as there were more kits than warriors ready to take on apprentices. A scary prospect, all things considered.

"Your stomach hurts? Bit of a stomach bug, love? Or actual bugs in your stomach?"

The words were spoken with a gentle, teasing voice. There was no reason to make the kit more uncomfortable than she already was as Lightningstorm extended a paw, trying to assess if Fallenkit had a fever or not. It seemed as if there was no fever, so she preemptively got up, heading to her herb stores to get some borage. It was a good thing she had sent out patrols to bring her a decent amount recently. With juniper berries running low, the borage was the best thing to handle all these mischievous kittens getting into food that was not food.

"Here we go, Falls," the herbalist mewed as she got back, dropping a single, star like bloom before the kit. "You'll have to eat this, which I know doesn't sound very appealing with your stomach as it is, but trust you me, it will be worth it. Bit of a warning, though. Tastes like proper arse, it does. But no spitting it out! Otherwise you won't be getting any better, and I am not spending two flowers on a kit. Might make your stomach even worse, so let's try and avoid that, shall we?"

As long as Fallenkit eats the borage whole she should be fine in a day or two tops, which means she can be roleplayed as regular as soon as this roleplay is over! Apologies for the long wait. My Lightningstorm priority list has exploded of late, and the power outages have not been helping the cause!

Blood. The scent of blood was thick in the air. The underground den made a good use of the wind's usual currents, making sure no intruder would ever be able to enter undetected. And yet here lay the downfall of such an efficient tunnel layout. The scents remained. That blood would permeate the den for days to come. And yet this was not what bothered Lightningstorm as she turned her head up, storming towards the entrance, closer to the injured cat for once than to her storage of herbs.

The sight that welcomed her was not one she was expecting. An apprentice. Alone. The stench of rogue and blood thick on her. Had she been attacked outside? Had she been alone? All questions she should ask, but none her priority. Those scratches had been methodical. Meant to blind, and she very well might have been. There was no time to waste if she wanted to save the molly's sight, assuming there was anything left to save.

"Wait here, love. I need to get my supplies."

In an instant she went through the maze like structure of the underground until she found her herb storage, the little beetle that made its home there clacking its mandibles at her in apparent confusion as to her haste. For once, Lightningstorm did not provide small talk, too busy seeking out the celandine she was after. Thank the stars she had asked patrols for the herb before. Grabbing what she needed along with some cobwebs and her trusty cleansing moss, she ran back to the entrance, dropping her tools as she picked a single poppy seed she'd brought along. There was no way those scratches weren't painful, and she would rather be able to heal the molly as she slept to avoid her going into shock. Adrenaline might have gotten her here, but the treatment might end her if she wasn't careful.

"Here, love. It's a poppy seed. I'm going to need for you to eat that right up and follow after me. I'll guide you along to a private nest in den, alright?" the medicine cat mewed softly as she placed the seed before Leopardpaw, hoping she could eat it on her own before she led her down the tunnels for treatment.

Even more relief once she heard what she had assumed to be Lightningstorm.
Ohhhh thank StarClan.

Leopardpaw waited as patiently as she could while the medicine cat was gone, but her thoughts were running wild trying to focus on anything other than the pain in her face.

And then Lightningstorm was back, and Leopardpaw would have to eat a poppy seed.
Okay, cool, she could not remember what that was for but if it was being given to her it had to be a good thing, so she scooped it right up, even if it was weird to eat a seed.
And it hurt to move her face to do so, but it'd be fine.
So fine.
This is so fine.
She'll get her sight back.
She has to.

After eating the seed, Leopardpaw would follow Lightningstorm, still rather shakily.
