Ravenpaw found herself on edge this morning, pacing furiously as the camp activities bustled as usual around her. She was entirely in her own little world this morning.
"Just go do it!" Her sister Rainpaw encouraged. Ravenpaw hissed in frustration. "I can't just...walk up to him!" She cried out, continuing to pace back and forth as her sister watched. "And why not?" Ravenpaw let out a quiet growl of frustration. How could her sister not get this? "Well...he's...he's him!"
"And?"
"And...I'm me!" At this point Ravenpaw paused in her pacing, suddenly feeling slightly dizzy from it all now. She looked at her sister, dark blue eyes pleading with Rainpaw to understand.
"And...he's our clanmate." Rainpaw pointed out, gently prodding Ravenpaw's shoulder. Ravenpaw grumbled incoherently, she hated it when her sister made more sense that her. "Fine...fine!" She meowed, exasperated. "I'm doing it then." Rainpaw only nodded at Ravenpaw encouragingly. Ravenpaw huffed in annoyance, why did her sister have to be so...supportive all the time? Would it kill her to level with her for a moment?
Ravenpaw took a deep breath, gathering every ounce of courage she could in her young body, and tried to channel her inner Redmire. Her mentor was brave and strong, she would be able to approach any cat as an equal. Ravenpaw looked to her target with renewed determination. Before she could talk herself out of it, she strode over to her intended target. She waited patiently while he finished his conversation before meagerly clearing her throat.
"U-Um...excuse me?" She took a moment to steady herself, she must be crazy just waltzing up to a Lionheart like this and trying to strike up conversation! As if they were any other clanmate! "Brokenstream? You got a moment?"

And to him- what could be greater news than that? This place was nice, but he felt as though he would never feel truly comfortable here. A small sigh escaped his lips as his thoughts began to drift and he rolled over onto his back, letting the sun warm his belly.
However, just as he started to get comfortable again, a voice broke the silence. Lifting his head up so he could see over his belly, the Lionheart blinked curiously as he was greeted with a small she-cat. ’She must be an apprentice.’ He thought to himself before rolling back onto his stomach and stretching downwards, pulling himself into a standing position. His whiskers twitched in amusement at her clearly nervous demeanor, but he made no mention of it.
”Of course. What can I do for you…Ravenpaw, right?” If he remembered correctly, this was that warrior Redmire’s apprentice. He didn’t know either very well, but they seemed like good enough cats. Briefly, a thought flashed across his mind at how young the cat in front of him was. He frowned for a moment, concern lighting his gaze. ”Is everything alright?”

Ravenpaw was about to go into her question when Brokenstream's words echoed in her mind. Wait he...he knows my name ?! Her jaw fell open, she couldn't help it, and it took her a moment to collect herself. "U-Uh..." She mumbled as she shook herself to clear her head. "Y-Yes! My name is Ravenpaw." She confirmed, puffing out her chest with pride. "I'm Redmire's apprentice."
Was something wrong? Why would something be wrong? Maybe because he's a Lionheart and you're just an apprentice you dolt! She almost hissed at herself to shut up, but managed to stop herself. She shook her head fervently. "N-No of course not!" She meowed. Ugh, get a hold of yourself Ravenpaw! She wasn't usually the stuttering type. That was usually Rainpaw's job. But she couldn't help it! Here was a Lionheart willing to speak to her! Who knew her name already for StarClan's sake!
Wait...why did I approach him again?
Momentary panic ensued before she recollected herself, again, and remembered why she came up to him in the first place. She just hadn't guessed he'd be so easy to approach! She thought she'd have to...schedule an appointment or something at least. "I was just um...well..." She timidly shuffled her paws. Out with it!
"IwannabethestrongestwarriorinRiverClancanyouhelpm e!" She spouted the words so fast, it took her a heartbeat to realize she'd actually said them. After she was a little breathless, and stared up at Brokenstream wide-eyed, like she were caught in a monster's headlights. She could practically feel her mother rolling her eyes at her. And her pelt started to feel hot with embarrassment.

The Lionheart blinked at Ravenpaw as she spewed a sentence so quickly out of her mouth that he almost couldn't catch it. "What?" He replied with a confused look, but after a moment broke out into an amused purr. The tom sat down, bringing up a hind paw to scratch behind his ear. "You want to be the strongest RiverClan warrior ever? That's a big ask." He mewed coolly in response, light green eyes glinting playfully. He had to admit, he liked her enthusiasm, but he couldn't understand why the young she-cat seemed so nervous. It's not like he was a StarClan cat standing in front of her. Regardless, his whiskers twitched in amusement as he looked at Ravenpaw.
"What makes you think I'm the cat for the job?" He asked, tilting his head. "Of course, I'd be happy to help in any way I can. If it's alright with your mentor, I can take you training with my apprentice, Catfishpaw, sometime if that's what you'd like." Brokenstream, as friendly as he was, was quite clueless. In his eyes, Ravenpaw appeared to be an apprentice who was just nervous to ask for more training. For the life of him, he couldn't understand why, but he would extend a helping paw nonetheless. "It's never a bad idea to ask for training tips from other warriors. Anyone should be happy to make RiverClan stronger."

Dangit! She managed to screw up already! But then Brokenstream seemed to piece together what Ravenpaw was trying to say. She nodded earnestly to confirm what she said. "Yes! I want to be the strongest warrior the clan has ever seen!" Her eyes gleamed determinedly. This was her dream, and she was determined to accomplish. Rainpaw was the smart, gentle one. And she was the cunning, quick-witted, strong one. Rainpaw was no doubt going to be an excellent hunter, but Ravenpaw knew she wasn't suited for that. "It can't be that big of an ask." She stated matter-of-factly. It couldn't be, it was her goal.
"What makes you think I'm the cat for the job?"
Ravenpaw found her jaw dropping again. Did this cat seriously not know how awesomely talented he was? He was officially a Lionheart! Sure there were other Lionhearts too, but Brokenstream always seemed so friendly and popular with others. But how in the name of StarClan could she convey that to him? No...there's no way she could tell him something like that! "I don't think your the cat for the job." She huffed, trying to recover from her anxious behavior by acting tough now. "I know your the cat for the job!" She stomped a paw down firmly as she said this for emphasis.
And right when she regained her usual self-assurance and confidence, she started feeling like an anxious kit meeting a superstar from an elder's tale again. Me?? Train with...him and his apprentice? She wasn't sure what she had expected, but that definitely wasn't it. After the shock settled, her eyes began to betray her excitement. "Th-That would be awesome!" She gave a little bounce as she purred. "I don't think Redmire would mind. She's been in the medicine den until recently so we haven't had too many chances to train until now." She explained, her excitement at the prospect of training with Brokenstream somehow helping her feel more relaxed. She didn't know Catfishpaw very well, but this would be a brilliant experience regardless.
"I don't wanna overload Redmire too soon. And I wanna do as much training as I can before I'm a warrior so I can just keep getting better!" She declared, crouching as if ready to pounce on a target.
Brokenstream let out a mrrow of amusement at Ravenpaw's eagerness. "I like your style, kid." He praised her as he stretched once again before shaking out his pelt. "Why don't we start with your form then? You look like a fish out of water." He joked, but flicked her ear playfully with his tail to indicate not to take it too seriously. The tom circled the apprentice, nudging her paws with his nose to try to scoot them into the right position. "Honestly, you almost have it down. Not that we hunt much land prey, but even fish can be scarce in leafbare." He remarked, taking a step back to look at his work. "You'll use this crouch similarly in combat," Brokenstream instructed as he nodded approvingly at Ravenpaw. "But do remember, hunting for your Clan is just as important as fighting for your Clan. A true good warrior knows that helping their Clan in anyway is of the utmost importance."
The Lionheart then took a few paces back until he was about a fox-length away from the she-cat. "I don't want you to attack yet, but I want you to stalk forward until you reach me without disturbing anything on the ground." He instructed, sitting with his tail wrapped around his paws.

Ravenpaw couldn't resist beaming when Brokenstream said he liked her style. This is officially the best day ever! Her whiskers quivered with excitement. He was actually going to teach her! She asked him, and he agreed! Nocat pinch me, she mentally prayed, if this is a dream I don't want to wake up! She averted her gaze to look forward, ears erect, as Brokenstream started to walk around her and correct her stance. Trying to force herself to pay more attention.
She easily followed his gentle nudges, letting the feeling of the position settle into her muscles and bones, memorizing how it felt. Her ears flicked at Brokenstream's advice about hunting. With a mental sigh, she nodded. "But...what if you're no good at hunting?" She mumbled. Ravenpaw quickly shook her head to clear it, refocusing on Brokenstream's instructions.
Creep forward creep forward...nice and steady.... She tried to pay mind to her paws without actually looking down at them fully, fixing her gaze on Brokenstream. Almost immediately, she could feel her long-furred tail move a leaf on the ground behind her. Mouse dung! She let out a quiet hiss of frustration and embarrassment, but quickly lifted her tail ever-so-slightly. Just enough to keep her fur from disturbing anything else. She took a few more pawsteps, moving slowly to allow herself time to get a good grip on how the movement felt. It felt like moons had passed before she reached Brokenstream. Once she did, she stayed in her crouched position and looked at him with wide, hopeful eyes. Praying to StarClan he wouldn't change his mind about training her because of her clumsy start.
Light green eyes narrowed as he studied Ravenpaw’s movements, nodding ever so slightly as she began to creep forward. Almost as soon she started, her tail brushed a leaf. Still, he said nothing as he sat with his tail curled around his paws, waiting for her to reach him. After a few moments, she successfully did without disturbing anything else on the ground. ”That was great!” He purred encouragingly, standing up and circling the apprentice. He rocked back on his haunches for a moment, looking thoughtful. ”It’s okay not to be the most skilled at something,” He began slowly, clearly speaking about her earlier comment about not being good at hunting. ”I’m a much better hunter than fighter.” He admitted, tilting his head. ”Look at how I’m built.”
He took a step back in front of the apprentice as he used his tail to point at his legs. ”I have longer legs, and I’m a bit more lithe. Not to say I haven’t built a muscular structure like most RiverClan warriors from swimming and the like, but I’m built to be more agile. With that being said, I think that makes me a better hunter and at the same time, even if I’m not as strong as some of our other Clanmates, I’m fast. There’s strengths and weaknesses every cat has.” The Lionheart lectured, flexing his claws into the ground. ”You’re also young,” He conceded, once again looking thoughtful.
”You probably just haven’t had enough practice to realize your strengths yet, but we can work on that together if you’d like.” Brokenstream offered kindly, gaze warm as he looked at Ravenpaw. ”Now try again, keep your tail off the ground just a tad higher.”
Ravenpaw felt a warm, tingly sensation flood her pelt from nose to tail-tip at Brokenstream's praise. She immediately broke into a purr. She stayed in position as he walked around her, sitting back down when he did. Ravenpaw looked at Brokenstream with more focus than she's ever felt for anything, like she'd never be able to tear her eyes away. She nodded eagerly at his advice, truly taking it all in. She lifted a paw and looked at it thoughtfully. Ravenpaw knew her paws were bigger than her sister's, her shoulders already more broad than her sister Rainpaw's. "I think...my body is going to be thicker than Rainpaw's." She mumbled thoughtfully.
She had never really thought about it before, she has always been bigger than her sister, even under all their fluff they both knew that much. But now, she started to feel a little...self-conscious about it. As kits, she was teased for being bigger than other she-cats her age, but didn't think anything of it. She figured, Rainpaw was more lean because she'd be destined to be a good hunter. Ravenpaw had the built and temper to match a true fighter, so that's what she set her sights on. But now, a concern flickered in her mind that she never considered before... What if...what if toms don't find me feminine enough? Ravenpaw knew she wouldn't be ready to start a family any time soon, and she really hadn't sat down to really think about it at all until now.
She tightened her jaw closed to keep herself from mumbling her thoughts out loud, shaking her head like she was trying to shake a tick off. Now wasn't the time to bother with such nonsense! If she was going to have the build of a fighter, she needed to work hard enough to build that talent while also compensating for her weaknesses. She set her paw down and met Brokenstream's gaze steadily, fierce determination blazing in her eyes. She would make herself into a strong and powerful warrior, one that will be respected and admired throughout the clan. No cat will ever make fun of me, they'll have nothing to tease.
She nodded at Brokenstream's instructions, smiling broadly. She felt almost giddy again, being around Brokenstream felt like a dream, even more so that he was taking the time to teach her. She never wanted this dream to end. Ravenpaw set down into her crouch, relishing that it was feeling more and more familiar with each repetition. She angled her ear back as she shifted focus to feeling where her tail was. She could just feel the pressure of the ends of her fur touching the ground. She adjusted her tail up and down until she was satisfied, focused her gaze on a rock, and then stalked forward. This time, she felt stronger, her steps more confident and smooth. Her kept her gaze fixed on the rock, and it felt like the world was falling away and a tunnel focused in on that rock as she closed the gap.
It felt like it took no time at all this time to reach the rock, and she sat up with a victorious look at Brokenstream. She had moved in a way that felt natural, but she hadn't been as concerned with where she was placing her paws. It just...felt and happened. She bounded back to Brokenstream eagerly. "How was that?" She asked with an excited purr.
"That's good for fighting. Makes it harder for your enemies to knock you down."
The Lionheart remarked with an approving nod. "I'm not a very skilled fighter myself, but I can make up for it with other things." He watched as Ravenpaw's second attempt. She moved more swiftly and with confidence. Her stance was firm but fluid. "Very impressive! I'm sure your mentor will be shocked at how naturally skilled you are." He meowed with a playful wink, touching his nose to the young apprentice's head in act of appraisal. "The important thing is realizing your strengths and leaning into those, but also to understand where your weaknesses lack. You'll grow into a fine warrior." Brokenstream said with a nod, turning and taking a few steps away, looking thoughtful. "Hmm...if you're ready, you can practice on me now."
With that, the bengal dropped into a crouch, prowling around Ravenpaw. "I won't make the first move. Go ahead, attack me." He instructed, light green eyes studying the apprentice's every movement. He flattened his ears and bared his fangs, trying to look intimidating. Obviously, he wasn't being serious but wanted her to get a feel for how a real enemy would act.
