rookfire wasnt really one for kits, or young apprentices for that matter, but knowing his clanmates was something he would like to keep up with and giving the kits some nice memories or opportunity to find new friends..well he wouldnt turn down that either. you see, hidden beneath blood lust and cool distance, rookfire had a heart. and he cared. for more than just himself.. sometimes. a scavenger hunt it was then. but for a scavenger hunt he needed rewards and of course something for them to search, so birds presented themselves as a two sided coins except both sides said 'yessss'. not only did he get to take home some prey to free the clan, but also gather a whole bunch of feathers for his event
be it out of curiosity and suspicion or simply the fact that he was itching to rile up another riverclanner after so long of them being missing and total silence from the other side of the border, rookfire had chosen saltmeadow marsh for his little search of trinkets. he didnt want to give up his own collection for this, especially because he wouldve felt kind of weird giving cats his rook feathers because..well. he was rook and that...whatever he didnt want to think about it any more than necesarry. the goal was to catch some kind of flashy bird, a jay or..well he didnt really know a lot of birds in truth. a pigeon maybe, he liked pigeon feathers.
soon enough, the enforcer came across a small gathering of birds picking at the ground. sinking into a hunters crouch, rookfire leaped at the one he thought looked nicest, small, yet a striking yellow and black. upon delivering a death bite, rookfire discarded the small bird to rest beneath a few pine needles he had scratched together to continue his search.
next up, and after far too much wandering, the enforcer was able to practice his climbing skills a bit, leaping up towards the greyish blue bird that had decided sitting on a low branch of one of the very few trees around here was a good idea, and pretty much just slapping the bird into the branch, before holding onto the tree and watching it hit the ground with a dull thud. the way down was far less pleasant than hopping up, a tremble running through his large form as rook dug claws into the bark as if letting go meant death and not just a foxlength of a fall. luckily, the bird had died somewhere between being hit by his large paw and hitting the ground and had not left him with nothing to show for his efforts.
the last bird for now was a red and black one, also rather small and almost slipping his grasp after already giving him a good chase. rookfires first attack on it mustve damaged its wing, but one wouldnt belief how far and fast this bird still went without being able to properly use one of its wings. he was able to end the birds suffering though. gathering his finds and trotting back to camp to select feathers there and without the pressure of having to somehow carry everything.
-Blazestrike, with his focus on the Shadowclan cat, didn't notice the other until she was right on him, literally. He wanted to shred the attacker apart, but knew this wasn't a battle he could win-
"Calm down! I was just about to leave anyway"
-Blazestrike hissed, anger clear in his tone-
[He was exiled about 10ish moons ago, I just made his bio a few days ago so it wasn't in RP but I also didn't want it to be super recent and important]

Now that she peered closer, she recognized this tom. She'd seem him at gatherings, yeah... Couldn't recall his name, but she remembered him among the shadow rats. "Yeah right, by what - goin' through RiverClan territory? Forgive me if I don't believe a word outta a rats' mouth like yours." Digging her claws in further, enough to produce blood and give some wounds for the cat to remember her by.
Stepping back she allowed the tom to get up, but blocked any potential path further into RiverClan territory. "Outskirts're that way. Get goin' before I decide to really leave some wounds." He may have been ShadowClan once, in her memory, but his pelt no longer held the scent. She would stay here until he was gone, making sure he didn't travel any furhter into RiverClan territory.
In the midst of dealing with the outsider though, a new voice flickered towards her - a familiar one - and immediately the deputy looked up. Anger flared in her chest, and it took everything in her to not launch herself across the border. "...Well, if it isn't the 'paw murderer." Honeypaw's body flashed through her, a six moon old kid, fresh out of the nursery. She still kept the loner in her sights, but oh now she would finally get to say some choice words to the cat who had torn up kids, who had ripped up Cobs' heart.
"Did you have fun, feelin' the blood of a kid run between your claws, coward?" Venom dripped from her tongue as she glared daggers at the former RiverClan cat. "Did you enjoy the taste of Honeypaw's blood as it drained from her and stained your muzzle? Did the light leaving her eyes - did her spirit joining the stars far too early - fulfill your need for revenge against RiverClan? I sure hope it did, you... you filthy piece of crow-food." A blink, and then a tilt of her head. "She was six moons, y'know. Fresh out of the nursery. But you should know that - she was only a kit when you were still in RiverClan. Probably even a kit that looked up to cats like you."
She wouldn't cross the border, no. But her claws were out, on her side. Her blue eyes blazed in fury, gray fur bristling. Oh, how badly she wanted to tear the throat from this cat and leave her body for Dawnstar to find. Avenge Honeypaw, and Wings, and Cobs.
[ @alec - i SINCERELY apologize for dusk please know that i love and adore rook very much ]
[ @Blazemico - if he doesn't head to the outskirts in your next post dusklion will attack again ^^ ]
-Blazestrike got up quickly and glared at Dusklion for a few seconds before turning back around and walking away following the border to the outskirts with his tail low to the ground. This wasn't the first time his meal had been cut short, but it was still annoying all the same-

once dusklion spotted him, another burst of excitement rushed through the enforcer, enjoying this obviously far more than the riverclanner. the way she addressed him was phenomenal, he couldnt have done it better. "sure am. the one and only, in the flesh!" rookfire cackled, striped tail flicking behind as his voice took a few considerate tonal shifts to dramatise, a perfect mockery and representation on how silly he thought this whole thing was. however, rookfire kept his slightly more childish response to himself, internally monologuing for a second 'oh i got one as well, if its not the cat that allowed someone to torture a clanmate right in front of their eyes! the failure that gave up on a kit carried away by a bird!' before choosing a topic so slightly more serious it was pretty much irrelevant, but something more personal after all. it was honestly mostly for his own enjoyment but the possibility of not only riling up dusklion but also possibly making her question her brother, well he wouldnt turn it down. (though he was aware it was unlikely to change a cats twisted view on one they obeyed without question. failure of the weak minded...) "anyway, i dont think you should be sayin' that considering your brother attempted to murder me whilst i was still very much an apprentice, but suit yourself." he shrugged, then stretched out his front legs, claws piercing soft soil before disappearing into white paws once more.
dusklion went on, seemingly pretty stuck on the fact that he killed a cat but oh well who cares, dusklion had literally killed a deputy so it was her own fault that apprentice had to die.
instead of choosing to defend, or rather, explain his actions (which rookfire did not recognise as immoral or wrong in any shape or form) a smug grin spread on his face, fully committed to leaning into dusklions opinions in a degrading manner. "oh it felt marvellous i can assure you"
with a yawn, rookfire sat, focussing on picking at the grass by his paws instead of on dusklion. "you know, it would be nice if you just scurried back to the hole you crawled out of, some of us have duties to fullfill" the enforcer proclaimed, mildly surprised dusklion had not questioned him being alone yet since by riverclan standards he'd probably still be sitting in the apprentices den.
[ love dusklion, rook is just mean lol ]
[ hope my reply makes sense i feel like i was half asleep while writing this ]
rookfire truly wondered what the hell he had with cats that were either silent from what he actively knew of them, or had the name silent quite literally in their name, because after his patrol with mudslide who was as good as a communicator as a cat dead and buried, he had picked silentpaw as his next patrol mate. there wasnt really much that went into consideration for him despite the current activity the cats were involved in. if there was someone simply resting, they were probably more likely to be snatched away by rook for a surprise patrol.
anyway, hopefully this would be less awkward silence and more light hearted conversation, or maybe it would be fine to settle for a pleasant quiet, they were going to the border instead of searching for herbs and despite the liking he had taken to gawking at the other side of the swampy water, he didnt really want to get into a fight or whatever with a apprentice he was supposed to take care of involved. soft soil sounding and feeling as soggy as he remembered, rookfire lead the way around brush and slick trees towards the actual border. all the moss and watermint he could gather here....all the great deep green moss growing on slimy trees...border patrol. it was a border patrol. he really hated the slimy trees though. why did water have to stick to them and combine with the bark into this weird softish mass that stuck to the wood and pretty much anything else it touched. yuck.
having come to a halt, "have you ever been here?" the enforcer finally addressed silentpaw, shooting him a questioning look before turning his head back to stare at the flat land on the other side of the border, silver eyes scanning the greenery for riverclanners.

Now why exactly did he have to be in a border patrol with one cat? Don't those always go wrong? He was already a bit taken aback when Rookfire had invited him to the patrol, and even more surprised, and rather confused, when he had found out it was just them two. Did cats always go to patrols like this? Weren't patrols usually 3 or more cats? Either way, it was a patrol, and his first one at that. He tried to at least look grateful. The enforcer didn't seem like a bad patrol mate either.
It took everything in his body to keep himself from saying something rather rude or sarcastic at Rookfire's question. He was only made an apprentice recently, of course he hadn't been here.
He didn't say anything, of course. He knew the consequences of snapping at anyone that was not a kit.
He scanned his surroundings, and merely shook his head, at the same time shaking soggy soil from a paw.

It was rather amusing to watch Icethroat frowning at her from the bank, side-eyeing the water lapping at his paws. Lostspark had recently made a game of seeing how many times she could piss him off, considering he wouldn't stop following her at all. Wherever she went, he usually showed up soon after, no matter her irritation. "Give up yet?" The enforcer canted her head, glancing down at the water that comfortably reached to her chest.
— "Oh, sweetie, don't you know the saying? Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer." Icethroat flashed his fangs, looking the most at ease after saying that. He proceeded to take a couple of steps into the water, eyeing the scarred grey feline before him. "You can swim. Teach me."
Lostspark sighed, glancing at the sky. She'd marked the border before this, thankfully, so she supposed... she had time to spare. "Why should I? You just called me your enemy instead of your Clanmate." But she kept a keen eye on the rosetted warrior just in case, not bothering to stop him, as he splashed further into the water, looking more uncertain than a kitten. It was a tad bit amusing, to say the least.
"Besides, I taught you how to climb yesterday and already regret it." Because he was invading her one safe space on her perch, of couse.
Shrewstep wasn't typically a paranoid cat, but being out alone near the Riverclan border made him feel quite unsafe. It was allowed, sure. He was happy it was allowed too. But if still felt altogether wrong to smell the fishy clan so present across the marsh. He was used to their scent being faded now, after moons of absence, and it was a good deal of self-control and experience that kept the fur flat along his back. His claws were unsheathed however, sinking into the soft ground with every step. Not the most practical and he would certainly have to clean them later, but it made him feel a good deal better. The illusion of power and control.
He marked the border as he went along, ensuring that all the marks were fresh and that no fishy paws had dared cross the scent line. They seemed to have stayed on their side, though some outsider had come by. No real cause for concern there though, they seemed to have kept moving. The best kind of outsider, one that passed by and didn't stick around to cause trouble. His solo patrol scared up a frog or two, and out of sheer boredom (no one seemed to be around) he went after one. He'd never liked hunting the things, and was forced to cease his half-hearted pursuit as they fled across to Riverclan territory. Whatever, he didn't like the taste anyway. He'd go hunting later, catch something actually worth eating. (open?)

judging by silentpaws lack of reaction except for a simple headshake, rookfire assumed the apprentice had not really been taken anywhere or trained yet. "saltmeadow marsh is our border to riverclan. that water there is the border n we mark our side of the border along it." the enforcer began, flicking his tail in the direction of the water, "border patrols are pretty simple; you walk along the border, mark it so riverclan doesnt get any stupid ideas n make sure nothing is off. if its a official patrol you report to mistlewhisker that nothing is wrong, if its unofficial like this you only report if there is something wrong. thats pretty much it." finally moving on, following the river downstream whilst keeping his attention devided between the other side of the border and the marshland to their right, rookfire took note of the soil beneath their paws, it hadnt been raining much these past few days so it was pretty stable for once.
