Default A mothers protection

-fishkit- Plot armor active- five moons

fishkit sat in the warm cozy nursery she wanted to play but here mama was sleeping next to her she shook her mama with her light tan paws but she didn't budge she made a audible grumble and stomped her feet she sat there looking down before getting an idea to explore the forest! that was a good idea yeah that's where papa found her mhm since she was found there she could go out just fine she stood up looking at her sleeping mom and walked out of the nursery into the camp and ran out somehow not being seen by any cat once she got out of the camp she looked around going far into the territory

Sleep was often rare or awfully light for the forever queen; plagued by never ending nightmares from youth until moons into her warriorhood, Nightshiver - on the rare nights where rest found her - still remained a light sleeper. Except, on those unusual times when she feels all the more tired, more worn than normal and a light sleep gets replaced by one of deep slumber, her mind tricking and playing with her as she struggled to leave the world of her nightmares once. And when she finally awoke, a gasp for breath and mind disoriented -- fear struck down. Fishkit no longer lingered within her nest or its surroundings, and Nightshiver got a sinking feeling.

Even as she looked through the den she called home, even as she searched through the clearing or called her daughter's name no response came; nothing but the ever so faint, familiar scent of kit and nursery leading out of camp, panic setting in at once. Her breath caught in her throat, fear and worry taking hold. Had Fishkit truly gone out? Had she not warned Fishkit of the dangers? With her other kits resting and hopefully watched over by the fellow queens of the nursery, she had to go after Fishkit. But she couldn't go alone, she needed help - besides, she could not risk breaking any rules in addition to Fishkit slipping away.

Mind reeling her paws worked on instinct, knowing exactly where to take here; Hawkbite. The tom, her dear friend, and he whom Fishkit regarded as her father. Nightshiver hurried to his side, the worry clear on her face.
"Fishkit--"
Nightshiver began, eyes switching to the camp's entrance as she hoped Hawkbite would follow.
"I-I think... I think she.. lef..left. camp. Outside. H-Hawkbite -- w-we've got.. to find her...., Hawkbite, pl..please help."
Her paws treated the ground nervously, eyes flickering back every so often, trying to beat down the panic from taking over her mind, from the anxiety ruling her actions.
"I..I was.. s..sleeping, I..."
She rattled on, sniffing the air trying to pick up her daughter's scent. Her daughter. How could she let this happen?

[Hawkbite]
Enforcer Commander
Shadow Fiend | Agatha Kitty | Kitty Softpaws

Hawkbite was usually caught awake at these hours. Typically, he sat guard at the entrance or patrolled the territory. It wasn't often he decided to take a night to enjoy himself and tonight reminded him of why. His sprawled-out figure was suddenly sitting up and alert when Nightshiver's brilliant pelt raced to his side. His fur stood on end when the nervous electricity zapping off her pelt hit his. "Whoa, what's wro-"

Oh.

The Commander's eyes went wide and to shut up the queen, he simply leaned over and licked her between the ears. "Hush, you don't need to explain. No one expects you to be up all night tending to them. I'm just... surprised no one was at the entrance sitting guard. Unless she went out through a hole," his claws sank into the soil. This camp wasn't properly secured yet, Fishkit could've gotten out literally anywhere. He'd have to fix that sometime soon.

Why did kittens have to be so difficult? Why was parenting so hard? Was he a proper parent to begin with? It appeared not with how this was going so far. He was just grateful Nightshiver was here to help and that she trusted him enough to come running when she needed someone. Affection would breifly glimmer in his eyes before the emotion was replaced by anger. He'd have to scold Fishkit for this later. He didn't bring her to the clan just to run off again.

"C'mon, let's get to looking," Hawkbite instructed, flicking the she-cat with his tail and leading her out into the territory.

Let the search begin.

Slight TW for minimal blood and face wounding

Her words shut in her throat, feeling the rasp between her ears when he began to speak, eyes lifting up to regard the gentle tom with a worried gaze. Even if a night of wakefulness was not expected of her - if anything happened to Fishkit - it was still her fault. Her mistake. Please, she couldn't see one of ShadowClan's kids not. Not her child. She couldn't lose another one.
''I- I don't....''
She shook her head. Whether it was possible for Fishkit to have gone through a hole or not was not what mattered right now, they needed to find her. Without missing a beat, the forever queen fell in a hurried step behind the commander, sticking a hair's length from Hawkbite as they treated the territory, mismatched gaze flitting around for any sign of their kid, nose lifted to try and catch Fishkit's scent. Please, please, let her be safe.

''Maybe... Maybe.. we should.. sp-split.. up? C-cover.. more ground?''
The words stumbled from her mouth after some pauses, worried gaze finally finding Hawkbite's. She was... She didn't feel comfortable. Out alone, in a situation like this, it was as if her senses were screaming to stay with him. But when were they not? Nightshiver was familiar with her own anxiety, a companion she has had for as long as she could remember. And unwelcome companion, keeping her paws glued to the ground. But right here, right now, it wasn't her anxiety that mattered. It wasn't her fear, or what she felt more comfortable with. Fishkit was out there all alone, in a vast and unknown territory at the risk and mercy of any predators that hadn't yet found this territory claimed by ShadowClan. She had no other choice, and shifted the decision into her gaze as she observed the commander.

Soon enough, Nightshiver found herself on her own. Her paw steps were quiet as she walked the ground so unfamiliar to her now - a new territory, whose every nook and crany she did not know like the previous two. While this one had some familiarieties, elements she recognised to be similar to where she grew up, Nightshiver couldn't help the anxiety when it come to knowing that her knowledge was not on par. Still, she had to find her child. Her ears were perked and bose was lifted, maw agape to taste the air, brushing out scattered leaves and following trails of thinly broken sticks in the hopes of a sign -- anything.

That is when she heard it; the idle voice calling out, the blood curling screams that followed, and the forever queen's mind turned into high gear. Without second thought the suppressed mother inside her took over, racing towards the sounds of the child, the long forgotten warrior she once was - or lack thereof - warning her about the dangers. About the scent when she approached, not just of blood - stars, of blood - but of an ancient predator to the clans; a fox. She skidded to a frozen, frightened halt some fox lengths away. Her eyes snapped to the hole the fox was desperately trying to pry itself inside, barely catching sight of the little trembling body inside, from her position behind the predator.

She stood frozen. Unable to move. Hawkbite. She needed Hawkbite. Fishkit needed Hawkbite! But he wasn't here, not right now, not when she so foolishly decided to split up with him to cover more ground, and it could cost Fishkit's life because she could do nothing. She was useless. Unable to fight in the face of this danger, in the face of any danger. She never had been able to fight, to defend herself or anyone, she never will. Her blood had run cold, her fur bristled with fear. Her nightmares. Those horrid memories, those horrid sights. The blood, the pain, the suffering - the danger, it all replayed in her mind.

And yet.

The fox, attracted by her panicked, heavy breathing, moments away from collapsing had her body not been as rigid as it was, turned her way. It offered a better glimpse of sight, a more clear vision... Of her baby. Hurt. Bleeding. Suffering. The screams returned to her ears, the pain in that young voice, the suffering Fishkit never should  have gone through. Her eyes met with the fox's - as if a silent understanding was passing between the two mothers, or so she hoped. The fiend returned on its small, hiding victim, and Nightshiver's heart skipped a beat in a sense she had hoped would never happen again.

Unconsciously her claws unsheathed, and a low whispered came in the form of stuttered words.
''You... you won't... harm... m-my... Daughter.''
She rasped, pupils turning to slits. Her paws were moving before her mind could follow, a bloodrage she has not felt since splitting that WindClanner's tail taking over - a rage she oh so hated, yet was so foreign. With bared fangs she through herself at the fox, still attempting to get Fishkit, latching onto the fox's throat with dull teeth and claws digging in the best she could, desperately trying to get its attention away from Fishkit.

She felt herself be thrown to the ground, grunting as her body collided with the uneven soil beneath, dusting up her pale white fur and watering her eye. But Nightshiver got up with a strength unknown to herself, rushing to stand guard between Fishkit and the fox, a silent warning hiss forming in her throat, claws ready to lash whenever it got too close. If Fishkit tried to approach, she would push her back, dutifully standing between the fox and its prey -- even when that same fox's sharp fangs collided with her own face, claws ripping at old shoulder wounds, teeth mauling the side it had grasped. She stifled a strangled, painful scream, claws weakly lifting just enough to attack her the predator's face with surprising violence - just enough to scar the poor beast whom let go, to fend it off just a few steps. Despite the searing pain in her face, despite the blood dripping at her paws, she had to stand strong. She had to stand tall. She had to protect her baby, and she did.
