Rabbitpaw

Rabbitpaw looked around the camp awkwardly, his mind and heart was still weighed down heavily and he wasn’t sure about this choice completely in the sense that he feared what others would say. That he would lose them but not too death, not like he lost mama. He and Lightningpaw had been beyond close! Closer to Lightningpaw than most of his siblings when they were alive and outside of his family circle he didn’t have as many friends as one would expect. Besides Vinepaw and Lightningpaw, there weren’t many he could call under that title. Strange for a cat that was as social as he had been. Green eyes flitted between the cats in the camp, most unaware of his mom’s tragic death and he frowned. A bitter and almost envious ping in his heart felt foreign to him, but he knew it was only grief talking and that he didn’t seriously wish others to go through what he was right now.

Eventually, his gaze did settle on his friend’s form. Outside of the apprentice den or near it ish at least. Honestly, Rabbitpaw should’ve looked over that way first, his friend was found there often. Now was the hard part, Rabbitpaw wasn’t sure exactly how Lightningpaw would react to the news. The blond would hope that the ginger would be ultimately happy for him… but also, memories from their last serious fight resurfaced. He didn’t want to think that will happy again, but if it does then Rabbitpaw is partly ready for it. He wanted Lightningpaw to know before it was announced at the meeting. With one last big release of breath, the tunneler padded over to Lightningpaw with a nervous gaze, “Lightningpaw! H-how are you?” Look he was anxious! Let Rabbitpaw beat around the bush for at least a little bit to not come right out of the gate with life changing news about himself in more ways than one… because Lightningpaw didn’t know about his mom yet right? Only knew that Rabbitpaw had come home to the den in a panic and crying sobbing mess and refused to talk to anyone about anything. He knows that he likely worried his friend…

Lightningpaw saw his friend approach and he looked up hoping to see Rabbitpaw a bit happier however he would soon see that his friend seemed nervous. "I'm alright you? I saw you come into the Apprentices den all hysterical I hope everything is okay." Lightningpaw asked his friend hoping to get some answers about the last time he saw his friend. He was worried about him and wanted to know what was going on. @Oliver (Rabbitpaw)

No. Nothing is okay and Rabbitpaw is starting to get tired of forcing himself to believe that it is. He believes that it will be, one day, hopefully sooner rather than later but right now, nothing in Rabbitpaw's life could truly be called okay. The... former tunneler... soon to be herbalist? No, no.. Rabbitpaw, just Rabbitpaw. Rabbitpaw looked at his friend, and he almost wanted to just break down into tears again and the only reason that he didn't is because he doesn't think he has anymore tears to cry at the moment. "Q-Quailheart.. my uh, my mom.. She... She's dead, Lightningpaw." He started first, the fact sweeping away his thoughts on what he was originally going to share with his friends and all of his mourning and grief returned. The tears that he thought he ran out of also returned with a vengeance, making Rabbitpaw a liar. He was an orphan twice over, he was a tunneler, he was a medicine cat, he was a liar, he was something that he wasn't sure Rabbitkit would even recognize anymore.

"Lightningpaw... I don't even know what to do anymore." His voice broke on some of the words, strained on the rest as tears started to fall down his muzzle as he spoke. He sat down heavily and brought one of his paws to his face as he tried to wipe them away only for even more to take their place. "I feel like everything is falling apart around me."

Lightningpaw wouldn't know what to say if he was honest Rabbitpaw was always the happy one or at least that's how he appreared. But Lightningpaw would guess having their mom die would have anyone messed up. He would only bring his head over to rub on Rabbitpaws head for the first time in their friendship ignoring the dirt that was clearly all over Rabbitpaws pelt in favor of attempting to console his friend before sharing tongues with his friend running his tongue over Rabbitpaws ear as he thought about what to say. For the time being though he would try and soothe his friend by grooming his fur and just sitting close enough that their pelts touched. @Oliver

Rabbitpaw appreciated the comfort, but couldn’t let himself enjoy it without feeling guilty at the other news he would have to share with Lightningpaw. He really did hope that his friend understood his decision to switch careers. The blonde pulled away a bit, just so that he could properly see Lightningpaw as Rabbitpaw continued speaking with him. “I.. Have something else I need to tell you as well.” He was pushing away the thoughts of his mom as much as he could at this moment. As much as Rabbitpaw loved his mom, he was tired of crying… and he’s sure that his mom wouldn’t want him to spend so much time doing so over her. It hurts.

Rabbitpaw took in a breath, unsure how to word this. Or speak at all, the crying made his throat turn against him and made it hard to speak any words at all but he was going to anyway. Everything was going to be okay. Eventually. Everything is fine and will remain fine. It’s okay. The blonde reassured himself. Despite the world, he’s been trying to stop being so negative about himself. He needed to be okay for his clan and he couldn’t be that if he tears himself down so frequently. “Miss Lightningstorm, she offered me the role of being her apprentice. And I- I took it.” There was probably a better, less blunt way of going about that but he was too tired to think of it. Besides he doesn’t think that Lightningpaw would appreciate him being all backwards and unclear about it just to try and sugar coat it. Everything was going to be okay.

Lightningpaw would be a bit dumbfounded as he heard his friend out. He did what... Did Lightningpaw hear that right his ear swiveled as his tail began twitching.
