Shadepaw was still watching Silentpaw when he finally noticed her. He shot a glance at her, and- Oh. Oh. Clovepool. Clovepool was coming towards Shadepaw, her demeanor as chilly as ever. Shadepaw glanced back at Silentpaw, who was going towards the apprentices den, then at Clovepool again. She stiffened as Clovepool got closer to her. She didn't respond to Clovepool immediately, her eyes flickering from the ground, to the other cats, back to Silentpaw, who was talking to another apprentice she didn't recognize. Maybe she would go to Silentpaw after all. Even if it means talking to another apprentice, whom she couldn't care about. Anything to get away from that icy stare, that concerned, accusing look. Her fur rippled uncomfortably. She never asked to be her mothers favorite. Though the attention was what she wanted, it came at the price of Silentpaw. She... didn't know how to feel about Clovepool. She had mixed feelings. She had the familiar urge to make her mother proud, to exceed her expectations, become the greatest warrior. But she hadn't earned the right to be her mothers favorite. Which is ridiculous, she knew, but she felt as if she had to fight for her right in the family.

Finally she fixed her mothers gaze with a cold stare, her amber eyes narrowed. "Shrewstep told me he would be giving me a tour of the territory this afternoon," she responded coolly. "It isn't afternoon yet. He told me to get used to the other apprentices in the meantime. He said I could get used to being an apprentice." She unsheathed her claws, gripping the dirt as the usual wave of frustration rippled through her. She didn't want to talk to the other apprentices. She didn't need to get used to it. She wanted to train immediately. She knew her mother would be disappointed. She didn't want her mother to be disappointed. She had vowed that she would make Clovepool proud, no matter what. But she couldn't do that if she hadn't even received any training. But no matter. She would be able to train, she'll just have to be... Patient.

---

(Since the tour is in progress, I won't count it as already happened until it is done)

Clovepool's dark copper eyes narrowed into judgmental slits, yet she held her tongue and kept her blank expression from a distance as her daughter spoke. Clovepool's fluffly brindled chest hair rose and fell with every breath she took, her entire frame enveloped in her dark plumage of luxurious fur. Even though she merely stood, her presence alone proved intimidating. Although she wasn't a big cat physically, it was her stature, the way she carried herself like a looming apex predator.
Once Shadepaw was finished speaking, her bobbed tail flicked impatiently, a subtle warning of her displeasure before she began stepping closer to Shadepaw. Tsk, typical. Excuses excuses, no matter how valid they were, were still excuses. Without warning, Clovepool stalked forward confidently towards her daughter and stopped a mere inch away from where she was sitting. "You’ve been assigned to a tour of the territory instead of proper training. How... typical." She purred, a tinge of disappointment seeping into her melodic voice.

She stared quietly at her daughter with daunting orbs. And for a few beats, she said nothing. Craning her neck down slightly to be at eye level with Shadepaw, Clovepool said not a word for a solid few seconds and maintained a blank, emotionless stare. There was a palpable tension in the air; Clovepool was unpredictable. There was no telling what she would do and how far she would take it, at any given moment. Then, in the blink of an eye, she gave Shadepaw one long, rough lick on the top of her head before turning her frame around to leave, pausing briefly to turn her head back to her daughter, "The other apprentices may seem like distractions now, but they are part of your path to becoming a true warrior. If you think you can merely leap into training without understanding your peers and their weaknesses, you are sorely mistaken." She meowed matter-of-factly, her eyes narrowing as she flashed Shadepaw a parting sinister smile before padding off into the distance and setting her sights and warpath on Silentpaw.

Silentpaw couldn't help but turn his gaze back to his mother. His mother. Often, she didn't even feel like a mother to him. She felt more like a caretaker, whose only job is to keep Silentpaw alive.
Back when he was Silentkit, things haven't been any much easier. His sister, who was then Shadekit, had always been the favoured child. It was always Shadekit this, Shadekit that.
It was never about him.
He wanted so badly to make his mother proud, to finally open her eyes, to finally allow her to see that he has potential too.
But he just couldn't find a reason to. There was simply no point. Shadepaw was destined to be the beloved, golden child, and Silentpaw would be... Nothing. He was never anything to his mother.

He hated Clovepool for never giving him a second glance, for always favouring Shadepaw over him. He hated Shadepaw for being the favoured child, for getting all the attention Silent wanted so badly a fraction of.
He hated his father for not being present in his life.
Would he have been angry at Clovepool for loving one of her children more than the other? Would he have cared and loved for Silentpaw?
Silentpaw shook himself from his thoughts. He couldn't just assume things about his father. But then again...
A cat could hope, could they not?

Silentpaw yet again pushed his train of thoughts again, focusing again at Shadepaw and Clovepool. He could see Shadepaw more clearly now, now that she wasn't hiding in the dark anymore. But it somehow seemed like she was trying to, trying to hide from Clovepool's everlasting love for her.
Why would she do that? She had everything he didn't. Why couldn't she just accept the fact that she'd always be loved and he wouldn't?

Turning his gaze back on Firepaw for a moment, the frustrated tail flicking dissipating. Her enthusiasm confused him greatly. He wasn't used to it. But despite this, it was tolerable. He wasn't used to having cats talk to him frequently, as his sister was just like him, quiet and anti social. And his own mother... It didn't matter what she was to him.
Silentpaw shrugged, looking away from Firepaw and back to the trees in the distance.
"Used to know a Firepaw," he mumbled. "In ThunderClan." The nameThunderClan itself felt like claws scraping on ice, and he found himself slightly scowling, but it was gone as quick as it appeared.
He didn't know where that particular Firepaw was, nor even remember what she looked like. Why would he care about a ThunderClan cat, anyway?
He turned back to Firepaw again, blinking. For some weird reason, he expected an answer from her. But that was how conversations worked, of course she'd answer. That was a stupid thought. He hoped to StarClan that Firepaw would end the conversation there and then, finding no real reason to be socializing currently.

(She/her)

"Oooh, so that Firepaw is from Thunderclan, I guess that explains it! ...Shame I wont get to meet them, then." She continued. "...Honestly, I almost joined Thunderclan. My mother also told me that they were strong and brave, but, I dunno, by what she said ShadowClan sounded more like... A family. A ruthless, bloodthirsty family, but a family nontheless! I guess that was what drawned me here... Hopefully I'l get to be part of this family too, once I get a mentor and all!" Firepaw noticed the brief scowl that flashed across Silentpaw's face as soon as Thunderclan was mentioned. She guessed it was normal, it was rellatively common that neighbouring clans didnt get along (actually, they werent meant to get along, at least not for long) But such a reaction at the mere mention of the name seemed a little odd. Maybe there had been a war recently? She would have to ask around later to figure that out.

Firepaw briefly turned her head and saw two other cats not too far away from them: An aprentice aged black furred cat, and a much taller fluffy she-cat, which she guessed was the young cats mother. She couldnt quite make out what they were saying, but whatever it was, it seemed to upset the larger she-cat, her mere presence and glare so intimidating Firepaw could feel it from afar. Firepaw briefly sniffed the air to add their smells to her mental library and was about to ask Silentpaw who they were, but she stopped in her tracks when she felt the large she-cat's stare shift towards them. Almost instinctually, she sat up as straight as she could and neatly tucked her tail in front of her paws, Expecting the warrior to come their way and not wanting to make a bad first impresion.

Silentpaw merely nodded in response to Firepaw's long speech, restraining himself from letting out a frustrated hiss.
However, he did react to Firepaw's sudden halt. He best assumed the reason for it was Clovepool's piercing gaze. He too, tensed up at the she-cat's sinister glare, but he was used to it. He expected that glare anywhere he went.
But Firepaw wasn't used to it. She seemed scared, almost. And Silentpaw couldn't help but believe that it was his fault. He should never have been talking to Firepaw in the first place.
"It's fine," he found himself saying, voice low. "That's just how she looks. She means no harm."
As much as he himself wanted to believe that, he had seen sides of Clovepool that said otherwise. But all he needed to do was convince Firepaw that Clovepool was a nice she-cat who only looked like she would tear a cat apart with just words.
