Fadingstar sat near the middle of camp, tail swishing from side to side. He'd asked both Raccoonsun and Whitethunder to meet him here; once they'd arrived, he'd take them both out for their assessments.

Raccoonsun walked toward Fadingstar.
Oh, boy, her thoughts were spiraling a bit, even if it didn't show on the outside.

Obviously, when she had been asked to meet him there, she thought 'oh, assessment!' And then she had thought 'uh oh, assessment!'
Because what if she absolutely humiliated herself?

Honestly, this whole overthinking thing was probably going to be what screwed her over.

Okay, Raccoonsun, compose your thoughts, your composed on the outside, be composed on the inside too.
Maybe there was something she didn't remember(like everything else) that was the reason humiliation seemed like a terrible fate.
Okay, let's just get this over with.

As she got over to where Fadingstar was waiting, she didn't say anything. She was too worried to screw up any words she would say.

Tired tired tired tiredddddd!!!!!! WHY WAS SHE SO TIRED???? Whitethunder had only just joined RiverClan, and she had to learn the hard way how tiring being a warrior was. She groaned as she exited the warriors den, smoothing down her puffy white fur. Her green and blue gaze swept the clearing and saw Fadingstar and Racoonsun.

Wait.

Oooohhhh crap.

SHE WAS LATE SHE WAS LATE

LATE LATE LATE LATE LATE LATE LATE LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whitethunder quickly scampered over, flattening her ears. "IM HERE IM HERE IM HERE!!" she wheezed, out of breath. "Ready for my assesment, sir!!" she purred once she was able to catch her breath. Ohhh crap why why whyyy did she have to forget!!!???????!!!

Fadingstar was slightly annoyed at how long Whitethunder took to arrive, especially since Raccoonsun was very much on time. Hopefully the tardiness didn't become a reoccurring problem.

Flicking his ears, the leader rose to his paws. "I need to assess how well you're able to perform the four basic RiverClan skills: land hunting, fishing, swimming, and battle. Since we're so far from suitable swimming or fishing territory, we won't be able to do those until we return to our normal territory. Land hunting and battle, however, I can evaluate."

He began to head out of the camp, beckoning for the two warriors to follow. "I'm not expecting perfection; I just want to see that the pair of you are competent enough to function as warriors. If you fall short in either or both skills, I'll assign you a cat to help you learn."

Once they'd walked down the mountain and into the forest beyond, Fadingstar stopped and turned toward the pair. "We'll start with hunting. I want the two of you to go off and catch two pieces of prey. When you're done, bring them back here and bury them for when we're finished."

Okay, she could do that stuff.
Easy.
Maybe.
At least it didn’t have to be perfect.

Was she meant to go off now?

“Okay, um, will do.” She replied to what he had said about getting two pieces of prey.

Okay, so, guess she was meant to head off now, right?

Raccoonsun padded off to search for the prey.
She had been able to eat on the way from that Outsider to where RiverClan had been at that twoleg den, so she could manage this at least.
Basic hunting instincts definitely helped.

She sniffed for prey once she found what she thought would be a good area.
Smell of… a rabbit?
Okay, that was fine, she could do that.

She crouched and went toward the scent.
Lucky her, a rock was blocking it from seeing her.
Honestly, her mostly gray pelt probably helped.

The mountains were open, it may be had to get close enough without it noticing her.
Okay, that’s fine, she could handle this.
She wanted to be helpful to her new Clan.

She slowly crept closer to the rabbit and…

[Messy Catch]
She pounced onto the rabbit, though it noticed her as she did.
Uh oh, okay, gotta be fast.

Raccoonsun scrambled to grab up the rabbit with her claws, and killed it.
Okay, it has a few extra claw marks, but it was still a catch.

She hid the rabbit for now, so she could go find something else.
Raccoonsun moved a bit to a rockier area.
This was little less steady, but it would be fine.
She smelt a shrew anyway.

She moved closer, placing her paws carefully each time.
And she spotted it.
Oh wow, okay, it just had to be difficult, huh?

The shrew was in a small little nook in the rocks.

She crouched, almost completely flattening itself. If it didn’t see her, it would come out.
So, she waited, and after, surprisingly, not long of a wait, the shrew came out of its little spot.

Raccoonsun pounced and snatched up the shrew, killing it.

Okay, now was just to head back.

She picked up the shrew, and headed down to get the rabbit again.

Soon, Raccoonsun made her way back to Fadingstar, and set the prey down.

“Um, so… this is what I got…” She said quietly.

Fadingstar gave Raccoonsun a moment's head start before creeping after her. He kept downwind of her at all times so that she wouldn't be able to scent him.

Her first catch was messy, but given that it was a rabbit he certainly wouldn't dock her any points in his mind. Rabbits were among the hardest prey to catch, so the fact that she was able to catch it at all meant she was a good hunter.

After catching the rabbit, she moved on to a shrew. This would be an important part of the test: if she caught this shrew cleanly, it would prove that the rabbit catch was messy solely because rabbits were difficult to catch.

The shrew was caught without much difficulty. Fadingstar hustled back to the meeting spot so that he could make it back before Raccoonsun did. Thankfully, he made it back in time.

When the warrior reported her catch, he feigned surprise. "That rabbit must've taken some difficulty to catch. Well done; I don't have any reason to doubt your hunting skill. Bury those prey for later and we'll carry on with the battle evaluation. In a Clan, we always feed the young, elderly, and weak before the healthy apprentices and warriors. When you're eventually assigned to a hunting patrol, you should never eat what you catch yourself."

Once Raccoonsun had buried her prey, Fadingstar turned to face her. "When you're ready, attack me. Claws sheathed. I'm not looking for mastery, just evidence that you can defend yourself against a trained cat."
