Doeflame

Oops. Turns out she wasn't allowed on the Grimpeak. Rookfire took no time in scolding her, and Doeflame shrugged in an apologetic motion. "Sorry." In truth, she didn't really care, but she liked her pelt intact. Now she just had to hope the Enforcer was kind enough to keep the offence to himself. It wasn't bad enough for a punishment, right? She hadn't failed a patrol or broken any actual rules, just an unspoken one. But she still didn't want to risk it, not with Dawnstar's unborn kits making her even more irritable than usual.

Shrugging off the incident, Doeflame grinned at Tuftedtusk as he approached. "Hello, brother," she said, mimicking his words. Then another tom- Owltalon or Owlthroat, she thought- came up to them, pressing into Tuftedtusk's side. "Yep, I'm her sister," she confirmed. "Surprising, I know. We're very different. For one, Tuftedtusk can follow rules, and as you can see, I can't." The warrior would have seen Rookfire's rebuking of her actions; there was no purpose trying to hide it, so she made a point of it.

Doeflame glanced at the cats who had gathered. There weren't as many as she had hoped, but she was getting impatient. She'd have to settle with the cats already here. With one last moment to see if anyone else was coming, Doeflame turned to the small crowd gathered before her. "All got your prey? If so, let's head off!" Picking up the two mice by her paws, Doeflame padded through the exit.

It felt good to be in the territory again. She hadn't been out since ShadowClan had moved camps, and her legs had been itching to move freely. Doeflame moved quickly, bounding for some parts of the trip. The pines stretched far into the distance; the only cats anywhere nearby was the group she was leading. She could go anywhere in this territory, with no-one to stop her. But eventually she did come to a halt, in a sunny spot with sparse trees. They were here.

Usually, if given free choice, Doeflame would have chosen Darkwater Mire or some other swampy area. She loved the feel of mud on her legs, of splashing through the substance and rolling in it and doing whatever she liked in it. But it wouldn't be the best terrain for a picnic; the prey would get soggy and covered in mud. So she had chosen a drier spot.

Settling down, Doeflame tore into one of the mice she had brought. It tasted delicious, and before long it was nothing more than bones. She was sure her clanmates would be devouring their prey just as rapidly. After all, the point of a picnic- other than to socialise- was to eat.

Owlthroat
he/him | Shadowclan Warrior | 40 moons
Killer Aptitude T2 - Just A Scratch - Silver Tongue T1
The Dancing Bird
Owlthroat nodded at both Doeflame and Tuftedtusk with a grin before turning to face his brother. Picking up his prey and starting a brisk trot. Spending time with his new mate would be good, a chance to connect and not get into one of his usual foul moods. Tuftedtusk made him soft, but he couldn’t say no.

”Sticky situation?” The tom snorted, ”Who’ve you made an enemy of now, I thought that was my game.” Owlthroat teased him, flickering a tail over Flytail’s face. He didn’t know if he could be bothered with something to sour his mind. Not exactly the most stable, flickering from this emotion to that. But he didn’t want to be seen as cruel deep down, but it was so intertwined with his nature it became hard to separate the two.

Maybe one day, he’d be kinder.

Unlikely.
