Alpinepaw walked into the extremely cold water and squealed quietly. Soon, she was getting used to the water. Alpinepaw crouched and got her head wet. She held her breath as she slowly pushed off the bank. Her head emerged out of the water and she tried to walk in the deep water. But, she was having trouble swimming.

Eucalyptuspaw realised that Alpinepaw wasn’t doing very well and swam over to support her. “You’re flailing your paws around like a pigeon! Slow down and do a motion like.. digging. With your front paws and back. Slow and steady. That’s it!” Alpinpaw did what she was told, and he was happy to see she.. well… wasn’t drowning!! “Stop flapping like a bird and be a cat. Cats float.” He joked.

Cypress’paw and Alpinepaw paddled in the clear, cool water, when Cypress’paw’s head ducked under the water, and a moment later, he reappeared with a small, gleaming white rock. “It’s for you!” he mumbled behind a mouthful of stone. He quickly swam to the bank and carefully placed it down, for Alpinepaw to get later. She smiled at him warmly, and his heart glowed.
