Vinepaw made his way to the medicine den, carefully carrying a small bundle of honey in his paws. As he approached, the familiar scents of herbs and healing remedies filled the air.

He slipped inside the den, noticing Miss Lightningstorm, the medicine cat, busy sorting through a pile of herbs. With a soft, respectful nod, Vinepaw placed the honey on a flat stone near her workspace.

Without saying a word, he gave a small, shy smile and turned to leave, his gesture a quiet offering of appreciation for the hard work Lightningstorm put into caring for the clan.

Fury, father, babysitter... Hawkfur was beginning to collect roles like shiny pebbles. The tom ushered the three kits to Lightningstorm's den, noticing their slightly woozy expressions and grimacing. "Lightningstorm?" As the medicine cat popped her head out and smiled cheekily at him, Hawkfur bumbled past his usual "oh this is Lightningstorm when she doesn't hate my guts" internal monologue before gesturing to the kits. "These kittos got into the prey pile and ate something they shouldn't have. Figured it would be better to bring them to you just in case, yeah?" His swept his striped tail over each of the kit's heads, winking playfully at them. They seemed so anxious... he remembered being like that all the time as a kit. But they weren't in trouble, at least not with him.

Willowpaw poked her head in, calling “Lightningstorm? I was wondering if you would like me to ask some warriors to go on a herb patrol. Maybe for some juniper berries or marigold if you need some?”

Sedgekit looks concernedly at his littermate Whistlekit, who looked as if she was going to throw up again. She was still quiet, pale, and sweating, lagging behind Sedgekit by a couple of pawsteps. In fact, she had been like that for the entire trip to the medicine cat den. If Hawkfur hadn't helped her, she may have even collapsed in the kit corrals. Sedgekit felt anxious just thinking about it.

A part of him also felt confused. Why was Whistlekit sick? Though they had touched the weird prey, Whistlekit licked her pelt and paws clean afterward, just like the queens always told them to do. "We didn't eat it, we were just playing with it. Until the weird prey exploded." Sedgekit meows truthfully.

It smelt funny in the medicine den, he was quite glad that Hawkfur had been so nice to them. He worriedly glanced over at his friends. Cottonkit truly hoped everyone would be okay. This was far more serious than he had ever thought.

His stomach felt weird.

Small, skinny, black she-cat with a light gray belly and tail-tip, a mangled tail, a crooked jaw, and one blind eye.

Twistedpaw's head spun as she stumbled into the medicine den. She could barely feel the scratches etched across her skinny black chest. Wolffang's last words rang in her head like an eagle's screech, and wherever she looked, she saw the flash of his burning amber eyes. Or the hulking coyote. Or the rotting pile of carrion. Or the screeching, starry figure of Rosebriar. Nothing made sense. She could barely think straight, barely comprehend anything that was happening. All she knew was that she was supposed to get her wounds treated. Vinepaw had offered to go with her, which she was eternally grateful for. She glanced at the black-and-white smoke tom. His presence was the only thing stopping her from breaking down entirely.

If only Cowtuft were here... Pangs of grief and longing for the massive tom rushed through her, forcing her to a halt. She missed his sweet voice and gentle nature. Lightningstorm was a competent medicine cat, but she'd offered no reassurance while Twistedpaw was healing from the horrific wounds inflicted by RiverClan. Tears stung her eyes. Nothing... nothing felt right.

"...Lightningstorm?" she called quietly, sitting in the herb-scented den. Once, this was a place of comfort; now it made her paws tingle with anxiety. Still, the heady scents of herbs didn't chase out the reek of carrion and blood. "I... I got scratched by a... c-coyote..." She glanced at Vinepaw again. If she didn't remind herself that he was here, she feared she might lift away from this world entirely.

Whiskers trembled as Lightningstorm wiped the remains of vole from her whiskers, the sight of one of her favorite meals in the prey pile too tempting to pass up. She had gravitated towards them instinctually when she had first lost her memory, and had soon discovered why. The taste was simply much better than the more commonly hunted hares and rabbits the clan offered, although she would never turn her nose at either prey. You got what you could eat, after all. It was here that she sat, however, grooming herself in the sunlight, when a brown furred tom entered her den, calling out her name. Amusement sparkling in her eyes, she stood, following after him on quiet paws well used to the den.

The molly didn't quite catch the tom's entire speech. It had taken some time to cross the clearing, and he had seemingly gotten to it quite speedily, eager to get out of the den as quickly as possible. But she caught enough. The tom had fainted. Twilightstar wanted to know why. And this was somehow tied to his demotion. Not the type to want to embarrass a cat that was obviously as self aware as this one was, she purred as she walked up behind him, repeating what she had managed to understand as she offered a teasing wink.

"Right. So if I got this straight, you are fainting for unknown circumstances? And we need to stop that bit of fainting before your demotion is up, that sound about right? Well, you say find out, but I much prefer to treat the illness, and fainting is usually a condition of something else. Normally fatigue or lack of nourishment. Have you been eating alright? Prey pile is well stocked, innit? And don't you lie to me about that. Nose for lies, this one," she mewed, poking her nose in a mock threatening fashion.

"Let's get a few probabilities out of the way first, because from a glance at the very least, you seem proper fine, don't you? Have you fainted 'fore this? Or is this the first time? How much strenuous activity do you usually find yourself doing during the day? Difficulty breathing when running or walking? Pain in your joints? Perhaps your heart beats a little faster at the idea of seeing this pretty face of mine? It's quite alright. I have been told I am quite radiant. Take up the clan by storm and all."

A giggle of amusement escaped the medicine cat, her paw raising to the air as she waved away this last set of questions. She was attempting to lighten the mood, considering the poor tom seemed frighten to hell and back just for being here, and she always preferred her patients to be a bit more at ease. Or angry. Either worked, of course. Anything over fearful or tearful, please. Her laughter dissipating, however, she turned almond shaped eyes on the recently turned apprentice, tilting her head curiously as she studied his physique. Looking for telltale signs of starvation or malnutrition. He generally seemed healthy, but there could of course be many reasons for a fainting spell. They'd just have to work together for some time to discover what was wrong.

| So, because of their repertoire in the patrols, I have been going with the fact that Lightningstorm has no idea why Sunpaw was demoted. This is why she is so friendly and openly nice to the tom until he decided to poke the hornet's nest with the grieving Deadmoon during their report. If she had known that he killed an apprentice, she would have been reluctant to have him go out at all unless surrounded by furies due to the fact that she's not the type to look very kindly to cats that kill outside of full blown clan to clan battles, especially killing apprentices, seeing as how she's had to deal with so much of the downfall of these attacks with cats coming back injured due to unwarranted attacks herself! This is why I had her miss out the first part of Sunpaw's message!

I know the medicine cat post with Sunpaw was made after the patrols were sent out, but because this rp technically happened first, I am trying to keep it in a appropriately placed in the timeline to avoid it getting all loopy, so if Sunpaw could just not mention the events again to avoid breaking the entire roleplay concerning his demotion and the discovery of what triggered his fainting spell that would be fantastic and I would be super thankful! Sorry for the inconvenience. |
