Brokenstream purred in amusement at Aspenpaw’s excited questions. ”Don’t worry, I’ll make it quick.” He assured the apprentice, giving a friendly nod to the other apprentices assigned to him. ”Alright Yellow Team! Pay close attention now- sometimes land prey can be more slippery than fish, so silence is the key.”

With that, the Lionheart dropped into a crouch, making sure his tail was lifted slightly off the ground so it didn’t disturb any debris. ”You need to be very aware of anything on the ground, as one twig or leaf can alert your prey and scare them away.” He explained, stepping on a twig to show them how loud it can be. ”You also want to make sure the wind isn’t blowing your scent towards your prey. Then they’ll be too alert.” He tilted his head, as if thinking what else to teach them. ”Ah, yes! Pouncing!”

The bengal began to stalk forward toward a small rock on the ground a few fox-lengths away. After a moment of sitting still in silence, he slightly wiggled his hind-quarters and shot forward, landing squarely on the rock with his front paws. ”Remember everyone, patience is key.” He meowed, kicking the rock back into place. ”I want everyone to give it a try before you get going.”

The tom stood up, surveying the apprentices appreciatively. ”If you need another demonstration, come see me and I can fix your posture. If not- let’s get pouncing so you can get hunting! Feel free to hunt in pairs, but don’t talk too much and disturb the prey.” He warned, taking a seat to see if anyone needed extra help before they began to hunt.

For a moment Rainingpaw was confused, because the fur of most land animals was much less slippery than that of say a fish. She then realized that wasn't what Brokenstream meant. She pawed a small rock over to herself, then took a few steps back. She then slowly crept closer, crouched low her tail just above the ground. She then leapt paws landing square on the rock, hissing softly as it poked at he pads. She then stood up and looked for another apprentice to hunt with.

Baneberrypaw felt a bit intimidated at first... the lionheart did a wonderful crouch. There was no way The Storyteller could do a crouch that good.. maybe ever. The thought of slippery land prey made her nose wrinkle. Yuck! But despite this she dropped into an awkward crouch. As he moved around Bane took this as an opportunity to shuffle and shift. Her form definately wasnt the nest, but it was better than before. Hopefully Stagheatrt would approve, even if he was a bit serious.. oh, pouncing! She hadnt even practiced moving about. The tortoiseshell apprentice began slinking across the stony area, tail sticking out like a twig and hind legs lurching back precariously. But with a bit of adjusting she fixed it a bit, and then attempted to jump. Curl back and~ too far back too far back!

With a loud OOMPHF! of air she tumbled backward. Dang it.. best try again. It took quite a few more attempts before she was confident enough to try jumping agqin. This time she jumped- forwards- but missed her target. Sigh. Try again. On the fifth try she successfully landed. A soft, proud chirrup exited her jaws and she looked at the pebble beneath her forepaws. Oh,, pairs? They could go in pairs? Delight shot through her chest as she looked around for her brother. "Smolder..! Want to partner with me?" She asked hopefully.

Excited and incredibly dedicated to effectively learning how to hunt, the small tom followed along with the warrior’s demonstration, crouching down and trying to mimic his stance as best as he possibly could, lifting his tail just above the ground… Wow, that was a lot of focus on a lot of things. Smolderpaw wasn’t really that good at multitasking, so it would take some time to getting used to this.

Initially, he watched a couple of others try to pounce on a rock–specifically his sister–before her attempted it himself, nosing a rock ahead of him and stepping back a few paces. He crouched down low, tail lifted behind him, but not too high! Just above the ground. He wiggled his tush and leapt at the rock, messily landing over top of it, to which he pawed at it, swinging it elsewhere with a playful grin… As fun as that was, he knew the real thing would be more difficult–and it was kind of hard to keep his balance in that position too! Well, live and learn, he supposed.

His sister approached him soon after his semi-successful rock hunt, and he gave her a toothy grin before he accepted her offer. “Well, duh! Why wouldn’t I wanna pair up with you? Let’s do it–let’sdoit!”
