Small, skinny, black she-cat with a light gray belly and tail-tip, a mangled tail, a crooked jaw, and one blind eye.

Crowfeather's smile sent warmth flowing through her. Making other cats happy... it made Twistedpaw happy, too. When they looked at her without judgment staining their eyes, when they spoke to her as they would an equal and not an invalid, she felt like a true part of WindClan. Someone who was loved and appreciated. Someone who belonged instead of being viewed as a burden.

This day was one for light and darkness, however. Twistedpaw noticed the change as she might scent a rabbit on the wind. She sensed little humor behind his chuckle, for it was accompanied by flashes of amber as his eyes danced from side to side. The smile faded from her face. What's wrong?

Her question was soon answered, and the black-and-light-gray she-cat couldn't suppress a gasp of horror. Her eyes grew huge with shock, and her stomach clenched with sympathy. "That's... that's horrible!" she whispered. Was RiverClan intent on ruining everybody's lives?! Killing his parents and trying to drown him... Suddenly, she found it difficult to feel any sympathy for RiverClan's exile. If they didn't get themselves together, such horrible cats didn't deserve to live among the other Clans. Though there will always be cruel cats.

Crowfeather seemed surprisingly playful and light-hearted for someone who had gone through so much. However, he had a support system, cats to lift him up when he was low. And, if we let our past overtake us, we'll never be happy. Twistedpaw knew that better than most. Not everyone, but most. I want to be happy, even when horrible things happen. It's not easy. Sometimes, it feels impossible. It takes time and effort and support... but I can do it. Twistedpaw couldn't spend all her time stuck. Twilightstar's words echoed in her mind. I helped Squirrelrise. I can help more cats in my own Clan, too.

"I know how awful it can be," she murmured to Crowfeather. "It hurts terribly, and it never leaves us. But we can get through it. Not forget it, but learn to live without it ruining our lives." She leaned forward to touch her distorted nose to his cheek. "You're doing a great job."
