It had been a while since Daffodil had been here. She scrambled her way on to the fence. Not particularly gracefully, of course, but she got up somewhere.
Now, to find her family.
From the double scratched tree, up the fence.
Move along to the left of the tree 4 Twoleg nests.
This one.
She smiled. She missed her family.
She'd be pleased to see them once more. Maybe for a final time. Maybe she'd find one of those clan cats and get into one of those clans. Then she couldn't really see her family, could she?
Daffodil looked at the grass, then at the nest. The nest looked... different. She'd never forget the route. And there was the other scratched wooden thing. Definitely the right nest....
Where on Earth were they? They'd be here by now...
Aha! She spotted a cat. "Hey, you there!" she said, at the cat in the grassy area behind/infront (she couldn't tell, it was very confusing) the nest. "You seen any cats called Hornet? Or Lilly? Or Rose? I'm looking for them. You seem to have taken the nest they were in."

BASIL

A cat! A cat- oh? Was the cat asking him a question? He didn't recognize the names at all really.

"nuh-uh, haven't heard any cats by those names. I know a cat named- uhhh I forgot."

They looked up for a moment, confused, then looked back at the grass. Grass wasn't complex, it was simple, he liked simple! Simple was well, just that, simple! Basil could tell this cat's situation was beyond simple- but they still wanted to help. Help was a good thing, he thought. At least that's what he'd been told by every cat. Smiley had given him help when he'd needed it. And look! He'd gotten himself back to the twoleg nest.

"I can help you look for them, though, if you want!"

Basil smiled widely, turning himself to face the cat.

"I'm Basil, by the way,"

the smile turned into a much wider grin, his tiny tail wagging as he went up to the cat, curious.

"Sure, you can help." She mewed kindly. Basil seemed young, so saying they couldn't help would probably be a bit mean. She wasn't mean. Right?
"Ok, Basil, I'm Daffodil." She hopped down from the fence. "I'm not exactly someone who lives around here so I don't know how life around here works. Do you know what happens when cats lived in a nest like yours just dissapear and or get replaced?"
Daffodil felt like she was putting too much pressure on the small cat. Maybe she should have simplified the question.

"No, not really. I'm sorry Ms! If I knew I'd tell you, promise!"

his tiny voice rose over the squeaking morning-birds. He liked birds, but not really when they interrupted him. Ms. Daffodil seemed really nice! Like Smiley, and he liked Smiley. Smiley would probably want him to do this. So no feeling bad! Help was very cool and nice and friendly- and a bunch of other positive words Basil couldn't think of right now.

"If it makes you feel better, I haven't been here for long too. I'm still kind of confused, my mama didn't really explain nothin' to me."

Recounting that memory was like trying to keep your eyes closed during a storm. It was eventually going to come up in conversation. He really just couldn't keep his mouth shut. Was that such a bad thing, though? It wasn't a bad thing that he knew barely anything and had already been kicked out once or twice! Okayyy, maybe he was lying a bit, more like four times. But it was okay! He'd eventually get the hang of being a kittypet to his housefolk. That idea of confinement made him feel just a little less obligated to get back inside in a hurry.

"Okay, I have a question. Is this going to be like, an adventure? Like a trip away for maybe a few sunrises? Or is this like no trip or adventure at all? Just wanna know what I'm getting myself into, 'course!"

Okayyy, would it hurt his housefolk really bad if he was away for just a little? No! It wouldn't, Basil hoped.
